It's a gay beach, too. Lots of guys. No attitude.

Nudity is tolerated on the oceanside beach between Cherry Grove and The Pines or at least it was when I was there.
Not that crazy about the nude beach on the Toronto Islands. Isn't the water too polluted to actually swim in?
I'm a regular of Beaconia Beach and the nude section of Patricia Beach on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. They're fine but not as popular with gay men as they were 25 years ago. Unfortunately there is a problem with algae sometimes in the summer.

Used to go to the nude part of the Abalone Cove State Beach (in or near Rancho Palos Verdes, near the Wayfarer's Chapel) in the mid-nineties. It, too, was a bit of a climb down. Don't recall that it was anything special but it was nice to have it there.
Wonder whether it is still a thing.

Favorite for years was Mazo in SW Wisconsin. It was secluded from the main channel of the Wisconsin River by a wooded sandbar. Beyond that in both directions was the main channel, then the wooded bluffs. Gorgeous. Water in the channel was a few feet deep at the most, so you could walk across or just stand in the channel. This pic from the internet is if you were looking upstream. If you zoom in, you can see the upper end of the sandbar on the left, then the channel entrance, then a couple sections of the beach. The two people in the water right in the middle are probably just standing. Low current. That's why on weekends every summer there would be a hundred or more people just out in the water, splashing around, Standing around talking to people. Meeting people from different states. Curious boaters floating in from the main channel 🤣🤣🤣
Fuck I miss that place.

Canada's Wreck Beach is across the street from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. It is considered North America's largest naturist beach. I've heard of hunky UBC students hanging out naked there.
In 2013, a bill passed closing the beach on weekdays. On March 8, 2016, the DNR closed the beach until further notice, citing illegal activity. The state is updating its master plan for redevelopment of the area, but Mazo beach was left out. Prior to the closure, it had been described as one of the "most popular nude beaches" in the country.
R44, it's sad that Mazo beach was closed down. How puritanical.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 12, 2024 2:46 AM |
Exactly, r46. Essentially, the DNR used a small handful of people who were ticketed for sex or drugs to limit beach hours from daily to weekends only, then finally close it. They also said they were closing the beach to be redone as part of the Lower Wisconsin Waterway project several years ago, but from what I've heard, nothings happening. It's still closed, probably overrun with invasive weeds and vermin.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 12, 2024 3:14 AM |
R44, have nudists moved on to other places in Wisconsin or was Mazo Beach the only suitable place?
Don't tell me that if you live in L.A., you have to go all the way to More Mesa Beach in Santa Barbara or Black's Beach in San Diego to get naked.
R43, indeed, sadly. No nude beaches in LA. You have to either head north to Santa Barbara or south to San Diego. How bizarre for one of America's great sin cities.
Speaking of SD, San Onofre Beach is [italic]technically[/italic] no longer a nude beach. However, guys still sunbathe on the Camp Pendleton side of the fence that divides the military from the civilian beach. And there's probably no other nude beach like it. Naked men doing their thing on the shore, while military planes and ships practice maneuvers in the background!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 12, 2024 3:40 AM |
Thanks for the interesting info, R50. Hopefully sexual activity is tolerated at San Onofre Beach as long as it's discreet (except to pilots).

by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 12, 2024 4:12 AM |
R52, if you ran into a coworker, then you both have a secret to keep. It's not like he's going to out you when he also goes to the nude beach.
From my experience, I've never run into anyone I know except for other gay men. My city has such a small gay community that there's a limited number of places for gay men to go to. I've never had a problem.

The mouth of Clam beach. Arcata California.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 12, 2024 4:27 AM |
San Gregorio nude beach near Half moon Bay in California is beautiful, but given its location there can be a bit of a nip in the air. The problem with San Gregorio is that most people spend their day in these sort of dug-out holes or trenches in the sand. The trenches are big enough to lay out and sunbathe, but the trenches create sort of a desolate feeling at this beautiful beach. Not many people are lying on the sand or walking around; everyone is laying in these trenches to escape the cool air so you end up not seeing many people the entire day.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 12, 2024 4:33 AM |
R34. The Goat Trail at the north end of Black's Beach in San Diego can get a bit shaky and eroded midpoint down the cliff, but if you take your time and are careful, it's manageable. But it does empty closer to the gay section of Black's.
If you'd prefer not to take the Goat Trail, you can take the trail beside the hang gliding port just south of the Goat Trail. The trail beside the hang gliding port is still a long way down, but it's a much more of a manageable walk down the cliff and not eroded. The problem is when you get down to the beach, it's a much longer walk to the gay section at the north end of the beach. If you plant your blanket on the part of the beach fairly close to the glider port trail, then you on the straight part of the beach. It's not an impossible walk on the beach to the gay section, but it just a longer trek.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 12, 2024 4:42 AM |
I like Wreck Beach in Vancouver, British Columbia. It's a fun beach. People tend to sit close together given the size of the beach, but it's a great day at the beach. There's a gay section too. And the climb down the trail is easy and therefore not hard on the way up.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 12, 2024 4:53 AM |

R49 I'm not sure. There was a Facebook group that gave regular updates when the beach was open (weather, conditions, events etc) but they don't share anything anymore since the beach closed. I know there are a hundred "unofficial" beaches with no name in Wisconsin, and a few campgrounds in the area. Some are "all lifestyle" or themed nude weekends (swingers, kink & fetish, bears etc)

Prudishness creeps.
Since others have expanded beyond traditional “beaches,” allow me to complain about Mohonk Preserve in the Hudson Valley. There had been a gay / nudist watering hole there for YEARS, and in fact, the deed stipulated that nude sunbathing was a traditional use of the area and should continue in perpetuity.
But the new Board of Mohonk does not care. They started sending park staff to “politely” ask people to put their clothes back on. I don’t care how polite you are, you are eliminating one of the few gay spaces in the entire region.

Smugglers Cove/Abalone Cove/Pirates Cove in Ranchos Palos Verdes used to be rocking. Lots of action on the beach, in the water, and the bushes. By around 2000 though it was mostly gone. They started ticketing more, made access roads that made it easier to get to and the landslide movement made it less secluded. It really was an oasis of sort in LA County a cruise oasis. The trolls probably ruined it. It's easy to blame them.

R27 Where's the cliff? You approach the beach from the end of the Sitges promenade, walk over some ground until you hit the railway line and walk for perhaps a mile. The beach is marked by a large pride flag painted on the rock face. WALK DON TO THE BEACH. there are steps up to a cafe shack on top. No memory of people scaling steep cliff faces to get there.

I've been to Rock River in VT... very gay, very nude, very frisky. It's a drive, unless you live in southern VT. It's also quite the walk to reach, and a couple of parts are slippery on steeply angled rocks. But cock is cock and when you want to look at it in the sun or suck it off in the shady woods, a man does what a man does - walk.
I know of a small, delightful beach in western MA that for years has been gay and gay friendly to some straight couples and single women who want to spend some time in the sun nude. Some nice space in the sun along a river, a number of trails for walking and "walking." Unfortunately, it was invaded last summer by a group of swingers from Connecticut. A group of 20 or so fat, obese, and morbidly obese straights (many with really bad tats). They pile in, strip down and start going at it on the beach... gotta say, no straight guy wants to see one fat guy with his face buried between the legs of a fat chick. Yick.
I hpe they do not return in the coming season.

R58. I've done the walk many, many times. It's more than 10 minutes; it's longer walk. It's not impossible, and the hang gliding trail is an alternative to the goat trail. I was just trying to give an idea of the distance to those who have never to Black's before and are unfamiliar with the trails and the length of the beach.

Anyone remember the nude beach at the far south end of Zuma Beach in Malibu? You had to climb over rocks to get to it. It wasn't too big. Then after that El Nino year all the rocks came down and no sand. What was it called? Paradise beach maybe?

It was not a beach, but I went camping up north with a group of gay men (30s through 60s) up in Mammoth Lakes, CA. There's a nearby hot springs that is clothing-optional and we all decided to go. When we got there, there was a group of late teens/college bros horsing around (in trunks of course).
And when we stripped down and surrounded them... let's just say, I've never seen a group of bros go so awkwardly silent before 😂. They didn't last much longer there afterwards!

It has been discovered by the gays though. A lot of sceney queenies on our last trip over Christmas and NYE. Kind of sad because they brought their cunty behavior over from Puerto Vallarta and Tulum (and NYC and LA).
There is even a gay gym now.
Both Western and Eastern ends are gay sections now, with Playa del Amor on the Eastern end effectively becoming an orgy after sunset. A surreal experience to have that freedom and hedonism under the stars against the violent Pacific.
