Why does everyone on DL hate Taylor Swift so much?

There’s absolutely nothing special about her, she’s unattractive, untalented, and just seems like a mean girl. That’s why I hate her. She seems like the worst parts of American culture all wrapped up into an awkward ugly package. Also, her political views would have been a bigger help in 2016 but she wanted to keep sucking on hillbilly teat for the cash. Now that she’s a bajillionaire she suddenly has a conscience. Too late, ugly.

I don’t know. But you gotta admit Tay has a knack for melody. Most of her songs are basic as fuck but some of them are just so dam infectious and catchy and she wrote the lyrics and the guitar riffs herself so you gotta respect her.

I like her just fine. She has some catchy songs. Her humbleness may be an act, but I'll take that over her being an egomaniac.

I would agree with that, but there have been a lot of musicians receiving unnecessary hype over the years. I’m a zoomer and I’ve never gotten the obsession over her. I’ve been hearing about her love life since I was in middle school and I’m sick of it. The only time I really got it was when she did country music, songs like Love Story and Teardrops On My Guitar were legitimately great. I’ve liked a few of her songs since then but otherwise I just don’t get the obsession. And for someone who’s so popular, she has such an unlikeable personality.

I think she's kind of bland, but that woman is a marketing genius. Everyone woman of a certain age + their daughter(s) shelled out god knows how much $$ to go to her concerts this summer. I don't have strong feelings about her either way.

She has a couple catchy songs that are pleasant enough, but won't be remembered in 20 years. She's not ground breaking and doesn't bring anything new to the table.

Out of sheer curiosity, over Christmas, I ordered the Taylor Swift's "Eras" concert movie.

Talk about surprised. I couldn't get over how sparkless and unexciting I found her to be.

If she hadn't thrown in the occasional upbeat song, the entire set list would have seemed like one long, single dirge, and I LIKE a dirge. I just didn't think they could be so monotonous.

But, in assessing my reaction to Swift as a performer, I stepped outside myself and really tried, and succeeded, at seeing how and why her fans love her.

I know we're not supposed to "Karen" anybody anymore but Swift, truly, is Karen-a-Saurus Apex.

She's the ideal proxy for millions of fans who want to complain about relationship break-ups, men, society, their inner crapola, whatever.

They just lack being 5'10', driven, White, pretty, with a flair for pop music hooks cloaked in "depth".

I give Swift all the credit in the world and don't begrudge her one penny of her billions, including what I forked over to rent her concert movie.
