Jodi Benson and Michael Keaton as Barbie and Ken in Toy Story III did much more to satirize and explore the two characters.
Why are you so triggered by the Barbie movie?

I'm not - I thought Robbie was great.
It's just surprising to me how this film doesn't seem to get any credit for opening up the characters in a far more clever way.

Apologies, OP. I’ve seen a lot of anti-Barbie hysteria here and it’s quite puzzling (or not).
Agreed the Toy Story Ken and Barbie were great. I think there was once talk of a spin-off movie for them.

I had been completely indifferent to Barbie until Toy Story and her cameo in the original film was hilarious. But Toy Story III played with the mythology so deftly that I felt the Barbie film was almost superfluous. Herwig's actually has a lot to recommend it - but Pixar, Benson and Keaton deserve some credit for the idea even being possible.
