Thanks. There's two Part II threads. Thanks to both. We'll see which one gains traction.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 8, 2024 1:38 AM |
Naomi Watts looks like a loon.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 8, 2024 1:39 AM |
I think it's interesting how there's really very little political or woke statements and I'm not complaining.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 8, 2024 1:39 AM |
The presenter close ups and lighting is awful.
And everybody looks high or drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 8, 2024 1:40 AM |
Emma Stone looks ill.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 8, 2024 1:41 AM |
Going to the misspelled-title thread......
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 8, 2024 1:41 AM |
How could this happen?! Who is responsible for this bullshit?! Someone's head is gonna roll!!!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO WIN!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 8, 2024 1:42 AM |
The presenters were told no political statements, for somebody who asked on the other thread
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 8, 2024 1:42 AM |
Suck it Ozemprah!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 8, 2024 1:42 AM |
I started this Part II but the other one has a link embedded in Part I, so use that one. It will make cross-reference easier..
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 8, 2024 1:43 AM |
Stone is white as snow (she's pink)- there is no way she's going to do a tan. She needs to thin out those eyebrows. But Naomi actually looks skinnier than Emma.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 8, 2024 1:43 AM |
Wouldn't it be funny if the award to Emma was a mistake?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 8, 2024 1:44 AM |
Emma gave a lovely speech.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 8, 2024 1:45 AM |
Yay!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 8, 2024 1:45 AM |
Cillian looks like a hobo.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 8, 2024 1:45 AM |
Why was she wiping off Cillian's nose? I'm glad that Barbie is losing.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 8, 2024 1:45 AM |

Greta Gerwig will probably take comfort in Kate McKinnon's arms.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 8, 2024 1:47 AM |
Who kissed Cillian on the nose?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
Happy with Cillian's win.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
Poor Bradley… always a bridesmaid.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
I’m sure Barbie will clean up at Cannes.
The Cannes Lions for advertising, that is.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
I can't believe that Sandra Huller wasn't nominated for ANATOMY OF A MURDER. How is that possible?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 8, 2024 1:48 AM |
Could it be Gerwig is not as well liked as she thinks?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 8, 2024 1:49 AM |
I've been hoping to see Margot Robbie on stage. Hey, I appreciate a beautiful womans face.

I bet Margot feels stupid wearing that Barbie dress, now.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 8, 2024 1:53 AM |
Good grief, Cillian's son looks just like him!
He's likable, actually, and certainly deserves the win.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 8, 2024 1:53 AM |
Audra Day is a beautiful woman.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 8, 2024 1:53 AM |
Who put the lipstick on Cillian's nose?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 8, 2024 1:53 AM |
[quote] A Bomer win would’ve been woke as well
Since when is it "woke" to give an award to an undeserving white man?! I would say that's status quo.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 8, 2024 1:53 AM |
Is this Jared Leto's body double?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 8, 2024 1:55 AM |
Jon Baptiste is so awkward
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 8, 2024 1:56 AM |
I think everyone has to stand up so the winners can get to the stage, because the tables are so crowded.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 8, 2024 1:56 AM |
I hope 'Peaches' wins lolz
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 8, 2024 1:58 AM |
They need to have best song nominees perform. This show NEEDS breaks like that.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 8, 2024 1:58 AM |
Billie Eillish looks like a special needs adult.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 8, 2024 1:58 AM |
R32 Matt Bomer was not undeserving. He is white, though - and gay.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 8, 2024 1:58 AM |
oh crap, that was the weakest song from that movie

They are making Barbie to be deeper than it was

I don't get the love for the John Wick movies. Way too violent for my taste.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 8, 2024 2:02 AM |
I thought something fell and broke in my house!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 8, 2024 2:02 AM |
I think Barbie could have been better with a better actress than Margot
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 8, 2024 2:02 AM |
Was this category just invented in order to award Barbie something?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 8, 2024 2:03 AM |
I bet after awards season Margot Robbie will ghost America Ferrera.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 8, 2024 2:04 AM |
Taylor Swift is thinking "I showed up to this shit for this?!?"
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 8, 2024 2:04 AM |
I’m glad it was Barbie and not that Swift bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 8, 2024 2:04 AM |
This category was invented to try and draw in viewers who’ve never heard of most of the nominated films.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 8, 2024 2:05 AM |
oh shut up Gerwig
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 8, 2024 2:05 AM |
Margot is beautiful!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 8, 2024 2:05 AM |
There aren't many actors I would like to meet in person, but Ryan Gosling seems like he would be funny and fun to be around and not bad to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 8, 2024 2:06 AM |
Margot is pretty but she is not half of the actress somebody like Julia Garner is.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 8, 2024 2:07 AM |
Pretty in Pink
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 8, 2024 2:07 AM |
Margot has the classic Hollywood look.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2024 2:08 AM |
I like Margot and I loved her in Barbie.
That said, it was less a movie than a pile of ideas someone dumped on the screen.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 8, 2024 2:09 AM |
Pile of idea.
I fixed that for you, r62.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2024 2:11 AM |
I like Margot, I always get the vibe that she's a good sport.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2024 2:12 AM |
That percussion shit they're playing as the winners get to the stage is pissing me off.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2024 2:14 AM |
It was good seeing Pedro in the audience, I guess Gladiator 2 is finished shooting.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 8, 2024 2:14 AM |
I couldn't finish Beef (I hate to see people get humiliated), but Steven definitely deserved his win.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 8, 2024 2:14 AM |
I love Issa Rae, but she always dresses horribly for award shows.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 8, 2024 2:15 AM |
I don't know anything about Beef, the title turns me off.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 8, 2024 2:15 AM |
[quote] I like Margot, I always get the vibe that she's a good sport.
She is. I recall that clip where her "Suicide Squad" co-stars were sharing, inappropriately, photoshopped nudes of her they found online. She should have made a fuss about it but instead she was like "Oh no, they hacked my phone!" Pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 8, 2024 2:15 AM |
Ali Wong can't act and Steven Yuen is highly overrated.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 8, 2024 2:17 AM |
Beef? The Bear? Not my choices!
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 8, 2024 2:17 AM |
I didn't recognize this guy from The Bear he looks different does he have long hair on the show?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 8, 2024 2:18 AM |
I think Steven Yeun is a decent actor. Ali Wong is a great stand up comedian, but she sucks as an actress.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 8, 2024 2:19 AM |
R74 she was phenomenal in BEEF
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 8, 2024 2:20 AM |
For TV series I can go with Succession or The Last of Us or Fellow Travelers.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 8, 2024 2:21 AM |
Nicholas Cage and those sideburns, yuck! Does he think he's 70's Elvis?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 8, 2024 2:24 AM |
Fellow Travelers told a story of gay history that needed to be told. It was very well done and I wish it would have been recognized.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 8, 2024 2:25 AM |
Sarah Snook looks like she's gained weight.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 8, 2024 2:25 AM |
Missed the first thread, and really all I have to add is that Ray Romano and Keri Russell were hilarious together. Russell really is good at comedy and should do it more often.
Saw Andrew Scott in the background a few times acting like a complete idiot. He’s seated next to Pedro Pascal. Wonder if they will hook up?
I also don’t understand why The Bear is considered a comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 8, 2024 2:26 AM |
I wanna be friends with Snook.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 8, 2024 2:26 AM |
Sarah Snook, well done.

R79 Hello? She was pregnant during the last season of Succession. She looks thinner.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 8, 2024 2:29 AM |
The older dude from Suits, Gabriel whatever looks better now than he did as Barley the modelizer on SATC. Suits is fun for three seasons. I tried to watch too much quickly and had to stop.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 8, 2024 2:29 AM |
Suits was overrated show during it's original run.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 8, 2024 2:30 AM |
I wish Succession had more seasons, big mistake by HBO.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 8, 2024 2:33 AM |
Oh nice, they're letting J up onstage even though she lost in her category.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 8, 2024 2:33 AM |
Succession - borrrinngg 😒
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 8, 2024 2:34 AM |
I didn't think Suits was really ever that respected. It was just one of those okay, middling shows that was easy to watch, so it got a decent audience.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 8, 2024 2:34 AM |
They need to bring the show back but without Brian Cox it doesn’t work as well.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 8, 2024 2:34 AM |
Worked with Gabriel Macht on an indie film about 14 years ago. The guy is an asshole. The whole crew hated him.

Succession seemed like it was 1/2 directed by a 'special' person, yeh?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 8, 2024 2:41 AM |
Sarah Snook had a baby last year, so maybe give her a minute to shed the weight?
by Anonymous | reply 107 | January 8, 2024 2:41 AM |
Kristin is morphing into Linda Cardellini.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | January 8, 2024 2:43 AM |
Snook's being criticized for her bad taste in wardrobe, not her weight.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | January 8, 2024 2:43 AM |
No, she's been fat before then.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | January 8, 2024 2:43 AM |
Sarah Snook also said on the red carpet that she is still breast feeding.
Succession got on my nerves, but I loved her.

by Anonymous | reply 129 | January 8, 2024 2:57 AM |
Sarah Snook got progressively heavier throughout Succession. She doesn’t look bad at all, which isn’t the case for a lot of women.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | January 8, 2024 2:57 AM |
This woman is a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 8, 2024 2:58 AM |
It was obvious that Annette Benning worked her heart and soul out as Nyad. I'd like to see her get something one of these days for that performance.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 8, 2024 2:58 AM |
This feels like the Oscars. No crazy awards like in the past. Bring back the 40 corrupt foreigners who ran this.

by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 8, 2024 3:05 AM |
I was reticent about seeing Oppenheimer, I feared having flashbacks from childhood during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was extremely well done considering the subject matter was about the worst invention in human history. Christopher Nolan could well have gone over the top but he didn't although the seriousness was portrayed.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 8, 2024 3:09 AM |
I'm so happy Maestro didn't win anything. It was interesting how that cunt Sarah Silverman bitched about me being cast as Joan Rivers for a mini-series and said it was "Jew Face". Yet, it was fine for her to be in Maestro with non-Jewish actor playing Bernstein.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 8, 2024 3:09 AM |
I haven’t seen Oppenheimer or Killers of the Flower Moon yet. I can’t sit in a movie theater that long! I’m waiting for them to come to a streaming service. Friends who have seen KOTFM said Gladstone’s performance is more of a Supporting role. True?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 8, 2024 3:13 AM |
I wonder if Robert De Niro will hit on Fantasia.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 8, 2024 3:16 AM |
Oppenheimer was ok....it was better than Barbie, but it wasnt a masterpiece. Havent seen The Holdovers or Poor Things though. Was rooting for The Society of Snow....if that had been an american pic it would have taken every category. Oh well.

by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 8, 2024 3:23 AM |
The Holdovers and American Fiction are both very overrated IMO. But then most everything is these days. Standards have slipped in a big way.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 8, 2024 3:23 AM |
R151 all the Sucession wins though they were exppected. All the rest I'm pretty meh about. I liked Barbie NOT winning anything worthwhile though.

[quote]In layman’s terms: The Golden Globes is honoring box office juggernauts that might not have otherwise been nominated, probably to get eyeballs on their ceremony. It’s all a not-so-clever ruse, an attempt at renewed relevancy

Annette Bening better win the Oscar, or there is going to be hell to pay from me!

R144, Both movies have been available to watch via Amazon for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | January 8, 2024 7:19 AM |
R146 I know. I also think what hurts Society of the Snow is the fact that Alive exists. Had Alive not been made, and this was the first movie about the accident, I think it would have done better. I think people frown upon remakes (though this isn't even a remake, it's just based on the same accident). I also blame the lack of buzz and promotion.

R180 the HFPA was absorbed into the new group. About 300 who picks the winners. From what I understand a broad spectrum of film critics and journalists from across the world. But they touted the HFPA as being the same when their credentials were shit for a lot of them. Their names might be on their website. They seemed to pick decent winners last night so there’s hope for the future.

R178 I know. That is what I also said in my post. Sadly a lot of people don't seem to get it and that's why they talk shit about the movie. The story has been told before though, albeit different, in a previous movie, even if it's from a different book. That is hurting its chances for awards. If it was the first time the story was told in a movie I think it would win more awards. It's not new-new, if that makes sense.

R188. Except that the male form (actor) is used as the universal generic. I find the terms “male actor” and “female actor” slightly clumsy, too, but so is most linguistic change at the beginning (I remember a gigh school teacher of French in the mid-1970s, saying to us with disdain, “Ms. Is a disease not a title.” Of course, she gloried in her widowhood and also saw herself as a femme fatale—buck teeth, sweaty armpits, post-menopausal as she was. Now, I think Ms. is the default, unless a woman introduces herself otherwise (and I was taught that forms of address were just that—how other people called you. It would have been gauche, except with small children, who were learning about such things, to introduce yourself as, say, “Mrs. Norman Maine.”

I think Natasha saw that everything could be very easily taken away from her when she was a drug addict and no one would hire her. She really scrapped her way back into good favor, taking tiny roles in shitty indies and horror films, rehabilitating her appalling reputation, and making sure she never went back to that place and time. I admire the fuck out of her for that. She probably wants to make sure she's set for life, no matter what it takes.

Makes sense. Ad work is probably the best way to secure income for a big percentage of actors. Look at the advertising landscape - the number of big or semi-big name celebs in ad campaigns is mind-boggling. Clearly, there's no longer any substantial view that such work is "selling out" or otherwise a negative thing (not that such a view was ever universal, but it was definitely a thing). Being a corporate shill is completely fine now and celebs are smartly "securing the bag" while they can.
