OFFICIAL THREAD: 2024 Golden Globes - Part II

In case the other one taps out.

Please continue your foolishness...

by Anonymousreply 270January 12, 2024 6:03 PM

Thanks. There's two Part II threads. Thanks to both. We'll see which one gains traction.

by Anonymousreply 1January 8, 2024 1:38 AM

Naomi Watts looks like a loon.

by Anonymousreply 2January 8, 2024 1:39 AM

I think it's interesting how there's really very little political or woke statements and I'm not complaining.

by Anonymousreply 3January 8, 2024 1:39 AM

The presenter close ups and lighting is awful.

And everybody looks high or drunk.

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2024 1:40 AM

Emma Stone looks ill.

by Anonymousreply 5January 8, 2024 1:41 AM

Going to the misspelled-title thread......

by Anonymousreply 6January 8, 2024 1:41 AM

How could this happen?! Who is responsible for this bullshit?! Someone's head is gonna roll!!!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO WIN!!!!

by Anonymousreply 7January 8, 2024 1:42 AM

The presenters were told no political statements, for somebody who asked on the other thread

by Anonymousreply 8January 8, 2024 1:42 AM

Suck it Ozemprah!

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2024 1:42 AM

I started this Part II but the other one has a link embedded in Part I, so use that one. It will make cross-reference easier..

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2024 1:43 AM

Stone is white as snow (she's pink)- there is no way she's going to do a tan. She needs to thin out those eyebrows. But Naomi actually looks skinnier than Emma.

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2024 1:43 AM

Wouldn't it be funny if the award to Emma was a mistake?

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2024 1:44 AM

this one I think

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2024 1:44 AM

Emma gave a lovely speech.

by Anonymousreply 14January 8, 2024 1:45 AM

Yay!

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2024 1:45 AM

Cillian looks like a hobo.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2024 1:45 AM

Why was she wiping off Cillian's nose? I'm glad that Barbie is losing.

by Anonymousreply 17January 8, 2024 1:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2024 1:47 AM

Greta Gerwig will probably take comfort in Kate McKinnon's arms.

by Anonymousreply 19January 8, 2024 1:47 AM

Who kissed Cillian on the nose?

by Anonymousreply 20January 8, 2024 1:48 AM

Happy with Cillian's win.

by Anonymousreply 21January 8, 2024 1:48 AM

Poor Bradley… always a bridesmaid.

by Anonymousreply 22January 8, 2024 1:48 AM

I’m sure Barbie will clean up at Cannes.

The Cannes Lions for advertising, that is.

by Anonymousreply 23January 8, 2024 1:48 AM

I can't believe that Sandra Huller wasn't nominated for ANATOMY OF A MURDER. How is that possible?

by Anonymousreply 24January 8, 2024 1:48 AM

Could it be Gerwig is not as well liked as she thinks?

by Anonymousreply 25January 8, 2024 1:49 AM

I've been hoping to see Margot Robbie on stage. Hey, I appreciate a beautiful womans face.

by Anonymousreply 27January 8, 2024 1:51 AM

I bet Margot feels stupid wearing that Barbie dress, now.

by Anonymousreply 28January 8, 2024 1:53 AM

Good grief, Cillian's son looks just like him!

He's likable, actually, and certainly deserves the win.

by Anonymousreply 29January 8, 2024 1:53 AM

Audra Day is a beautiful woman.

by Anonymousreply 30January 8, 2024 1:53 AM

Who put the lipstick on Cillian's nose?

by Anonymousreply 31January 8, 2024 1:53 AM

[quote] A Bomer win would’ve been woke as well

Since when is it "woke" to give an award to an undeserving white man?! I would say that's status quo.

by Anonymousreply 32January 8, 2024 1:53 AM

Is this Jared Leto's body double?

by Anonymousreply 33January 8, 2024 1:55 AM

Jon Baptiste is so awkward

by Anonymousreply 34January 8, 2024 1:56 AM

I think everyone has to stand up so the winners can get to the stage, because the tables are so crowded.

by Anonymousreply 35January 8, 2024 1:56 AM

I hope 'Peaches' wins lolz

by Anonymousreply 36January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

They need to have best song nominees perform. This show NEEDS breaks like that.

by Anonymousreply 37January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

Billie Eillish looks like a special needs adult.

by Anonymousreply 38January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

R32 Matt Bomer was not undeserving. He is white, though - and gay.

by Anonymousreply 39January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

oh crap, that was the weakest song from that movie

by Anonymousreply 40January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

[quote] Bailey makes even an oversized suit look good.

Ma'am, I'm sorry but I've got to cut you off.

by Anonymousreply 41January 8, 2024 1:58 AM

Wow is Billlie halfway to an EGOT?

by Anonymousreply 42January 8, 2024 1:59 AM

Ryan Gosling looks better with age.

by Anonymousreply 43January 8, 2024 2:00 AM

Billie and her bro won an Oscar two years ago.

by Anonymousreply 44January 8, 2024 2:00 AM

Mark Hamill's such a nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 45January 8, 2024 2:00 AM

Does Eyelash ever sing at a volume that can be heard without amplification?

by Anonymousreply 46January 8, 2024 2:01 AM

They are making Barbie to be deeper than it was

by Anonymousreply 47January 8, 2024 2:01 AM

I don't get the love for the John Wick movies. Way too violent for my taste.

by Anonymousreply 48January 8, 2024 2:02 AM

I thought something fell and broke in my house!

by Anonymousreply 49January 8, 2024 2:02 AM

I think Barbie could have been better with a better actress than Margot

by Anonymousreply 50January 8, 2024 2:02 AM

Was this category just invented in order to award Barbie something?

by Anonymousreply 51January 8, 2024 2:03 AM

I bet after awards season Margot Robbie will ghost America Ferrera.

by Anonymousreply 52January 8, 2024 2:04 AM

Taylor Swift is thinking "I showed up to this shit for this?!?"

by Anonymousreply 53January 8, 2024 2:04 AM

I’m glad it was Barbie and not that Swift bitch.

by Anonymousreply 54January 8, 2024 2:04 AM

This category was invented to try and draw in viewers who’ve never heard of most of the nominated films.

by Anonymousreply 55January 8, 2024 2:05 AM

oh shut up Gerwig

by Anonymousreply 56January 8, 2024 2:05 AM

Margot is beautiful!

by Anonymousreply 57January 8, 2024 2:05 AM

There aren't many actors I would like to meet in person, but Ryan Gosling seems like he would be funny and fun to be around and not bad to look at.

by Anonymousreply 58January 8, 2024 2:06 AM

Margot is pretty but she is not half of the actress somebody like Julia Garner is.

by Anonymousreply 59January 8, 2024 2:07 AM

Pretty in Pink

by Anonymousreply 60January 8, 2024 2:07 AM

Margot has the classic Hollywood look.

by Anonymousreply 61January 8, 2024 2:08 AM

I like Margot and I loved her in Barbie.

That said, it was less a movie than a pile of ideas someone dumped on the screen.

by Anonymousreply 62January 8, 2024 2:09 AM

Pile of idea.

I fixed that for you, r62.

by Anonymousreply 63January 8, 2024 2:11 AM

I like Margot, I always get the vibe that she's a good sport.

by Anonymousreply 64January 8, 2024 2:12 AM

That percussion shit they're playing as the winners get to the stage is pissing me off.

by Anonymousreply 65January 8, 2024 2:14 AM

It was good seeing Pedro in the audience, I guess Gladiator 2 is finished shooting.

by Anonymousreply 66January 8, 2024 2:14 AM

I couldn't finish Beef (I hate to see people get humiliated), but Steven definitely deserved his win.

by Anonymousreply 67January 8, 2024 2:14 AM

I love Issa Rae, but she always dresses horribly for award shows.

by Anonymousreply 68January 8, 2024 2:15 AM

I don't know anything about Beef, the title turns me off.

by Anonymousreply 69January 8, 2024 2:15 AM

[quote] I like Margot, I always get the vibe that she's a good sport.

She is. I recall that clip where her "Suicide Squad" co-stars were sharing, inappropriately, photoshopped nudes of her they found online. She should have made a fuss about it but instead she was like "Oh no, they hacked my phone!" Pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 70January 8, 2024 2:15 AM

Ali Wong can't act and Steven Yuen is highly overrated.

by Anonymousreply 71January 8, 2024 2:17 AM

Beef? The Bear? Not my choices!

by Anonymousreply 72January 8, 2024 2:17 AM

I didn't recognize this guy from The Bear he looks different does he have long hair on the show?

by Anonymousreply 73January 8, 2024 2:18 AM

I think Steven Yeun is a decent actor. Ali Wong is a great stand up comedian, but she sucks as an actress.

by Anonymousreply 74January 8, 2024 2:19 AM

R74 she was phenomenal in BEEF

by Anonymousreply 75January 8, 2024 2:20 AM

For TV series I can go with Succession or The Last of Us or Fellow Travelers.

by Anonymousreply 76January 8, 2024 2:21 AM

Nicholas Cage and those sideburns, yuck! Does he think he's 70's Elvis?

by Anonymousreply 77January 8, 2024 2:24 AM

Fellow Travelers told a story of gay history that needed to be told. It was very well done and I wish it would have been recognized.

by Anonymousreply 78January 8, 2024 2:25 AM

Sarah Snook looks like she's gained weight.

by Anonymousreply 79January 8, 2024 2:25 AM

Missed the first thread, and really all I have to add is that Ray Romano and Keri Russell were hilarious together. Russell really is good at comedy and should do it more often.

Saw Andrew Scott in the background a few times acting like a complete idiot. He’s seated next to Pedro Pascal. Wonder if they will hook up?

I also don’t understand why The Bear is considered a comedy.

by Anonymousreply 80January 8, 2024 2:26 AM

I wanna be friends with Snook.

by Anonymousreply 81January 8, 2024 2:26 AM

Sarah Snook, well done.

by Anonymousreply 82January 8, 2024 2:27 AM

I don't watch any of these TV shows, so this segment is boring to me.

This polka-dot schmatta is not a good look.

by Anonymousreply 83January 8, 2024 2:28 AM

[quote] Sarah Snook looks like she's gained weight.

She's always been fat.

by Anonymousreply 84January 8, 2024 2:28 AM

Glamorous black dress is pretty on the big girl.

by Anonymousreply 85January 8, 2024 2:29 AM

Horrible dress on Snook. Inexplicable.

by Anonymousreply 86January 8, 2024 2:29 AM

That... didn't land.

by Anonymousreply 87January 8, 2024 2:29 AM

R79 Hello? She was pregnant during the last season of Succession. She looks thinner.

by Anonymousreply 88January 8, 2024 2:29 AM

The older dude from Suits, Gabriel whatever looks better now than he did as Barley the modelizer on SATC. Suits is fun for three seasons. I tried to watch too much quickly and had to stop.

by Anonymousreply 89January 8, 2024 2:29 AM

Suits was overrated show during it's original run.

by Anonymousreply 90January 8, 2024 2:30 AM

I wish Succession had more seasons, big mistake by HBO.

by Anonymousreply 91January 8, 2024 2:33 AM

Oh nice, they're letting J up onstage even though she lost in her category.

by Anonymousreply 92January 8, 2024 2:33 AM

Succession - borrrinngg 😒

by Anonymousreply 93January 8, 2024 2:34 AM

I didn't think Suits was really ever that respected. It was just one of those okay, middling shows that was easy to watch, so it got a decent audience.

by Anonymousreply 94January 8, 2024 2:34 AM

They need to bring the show back but without Brian Cox it doesn’t work as well.

by Anonymousreply 95January 8, 2024 2:34 AM

Worked with Gabriel Macht on an indie film about 14 years ago. The guy is an asshole. The whole crew hated him.

by Anonymousreply 96January 8, 2024 2:34 AM

WHY DOES ALAN RUCK HAVE A CANE?

by Anonymousreply 97January 8, 2024 2:34 AM

R93 Not .One. Bit.

by Anonymousreply 98January 8, 2024 2:35 AM

Did anybody else hear HRH Meghan screaming from her living room when the Suits guys walked on stage?

by Anonymousreply 99January 8, 2024 2:35 AM

R97 because he's a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 100January 8, 2024 2:35 AM

r97 he crashed his car into a pizza place

by Anonymousreply 101January 8, 2024 2:37 AM

Jeez, I feel old. Alan Ruck looked like a frail little old man.

Wiig and Farrell, nobody needs their outdated shtick.

by Anonymousreply 104January 8, 2024 2:41 AM

Will Farrell is one of the ugliest men I have ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 105January 8, 2024 2:41 AM

Succession seemed like it was 1/2 directed by a 'special' person, yeh?

by Anonymousreply 106January 8, 2024 2:41 AM

Sarah Snook had a baby last year, so maybe give her a minute to shed the weight?

by Anonymousreply 107January 8, 2024 2:41 AM

Kristin is morphing into Linda Cardellini.

by Anonymousreply 108January 8, 2024 2:43 AM

Snook's being criticized for her bad taste in wardrobe, not her weight.

by Anonymousreply 109January 8, 2024 2:43 AM

No, she's been fat before then.

by Anonymousreply 110January 8, 2024 2:43 AM

Sarah Snook also said on the red carpet that she is still breast feeding.

Succession got on my nerves, but I loved her.

by Anonymousreply 111January 8, 2024 2:43 AM

Heavy drinking at Matt and Ben's table. Cheers!

by Anonymousreply 112January 8, 2024 2:44 AM

Hey, the Holdovers got one!

by Anonymousreply 113January 8, 2024 2:45 AM

I have been waiting for The Holdovers to come to streaming, I am happy for Paul G

by Anonymousreply 114January 8, 2024 2:45 AM

It's there, R114. Peacock. And you can rent it if you don't have that.

by Anonymousreply 115January 8, 2024 2:46 AM

Jodie and Annette look great.

by Anonymousreply 116January 8, 2024 2:47 AM

Annette looks more like a lesbian than Jodie

by Anonymousreply 117January 8, 2024 2:47 AM

HA!

by Anonymousreply 118January 8, 2024 2:49 AM

Did anyone expect that?

by Anonymousreply 119January 8, 2024 2:51 AM

Everyone loves Bruce. One of the best songwriters ever and he could sing!

by Anonymousreply 120January 8, 2024 2:51 AM

r113, we got TWO, TWO BIG ONES!

by Anonymousreply 121January 8, 2024 2:52 AM

They’re saving The Big O for last.

by Anonymousreply 122January 8, 2024 2:52 AM

R121 I'm lucky if I get one.

by Anonymousreply 123January 8, 2024 2:52 AM

O-O-O Oprahzempic is the only reason I don't want The Color Purple to win anything

by Anonymousreply 124January 8, 2024 2:54 AM

Don Cheadle a blast from the past.

by Anonymousreply 125January 8, 2024 2:54 AM

Beckinsale looks like she is at The Porn Awards.

by Anonymousreply 126January 8, 2024 2:55 AM

Kate Beckingsale is u recognizable.

by Anonymousreply 127January 8, 2024 2:55 AM

Beckingsale looks nothing like she did in Cold Creek Manor

by Anonymousreply 128January 8, 2024 2:56 AM

And those are the Oscar winners...so boring. There used to be surprises.

by Anonymousreply 129January 8, 2024 2:57 AM

Sarah Snook got progressively heavier throughout Succession. She doesn’t look bad at all, which isn’t the case for a lot of women.

by Anonymousreply 130January 8, 2024 2:57 AM

This woman is a lot.

by Anonymousreply 131January 8, 2024 2:58 AM

It was obvious that Annette Benning worked her heart and soul out as Nyad. I'd like to see her get something one of these days for that performance.

by Anonymousreply 132January 8, 2024 2:58 AM

This feels like the Oscars. No crazy awards like in the past. Bring back the 40 corrupt foreigners who ran this.

by Anonymousreply 133January 8, 2024 2:59 AM

Gladstone didn't deserve to be nominated.

by Anonymousreply 134January 8, 2024 2:59 AM

Oprah. Her again.

by Anonymousreply 135January 8, 2024 2:59 AM

Is it the dress or was Oprah having a hard walk?

by Anonymousreply 136January 8, 2024 3:00 AM

Killers of the Flower Moon was rather disappointing. And I liked The Irishman! Scorsese should retire at this point…

by Anonymousreply 137January 8, 2024 3:01 AM

R136 She seemed like she was limping.

by Anonymousreply 138January 8, 2024 3:02 AM

No awards for Maestro

by Anonymousreply 139January 8, 2024 3:03 AM

That poor host guy. He came apart in real time before the world.

by Anonymousreply 140January 8, 2024 3:05 AM

Did I see Ricky Gervais' name as a producer?

by Anonymousreply 141January 8, 2024 3:05 AM

I was reticent about seeing Oppenheimer, I feared having flashbacks from childhood during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was extremely well done considering the subject matter was about the worst invention in human history. Christopher Nolan could well have gone over the top but he didn't although the seriousness was portrayed.

by Anonymousreply 142January 8, 2024 3:09 AM

I'm so happy Maestro didn't win anything. It was interesting how that cunt Sarah Silverman bitched about me being cast as Joan Rivers for a mini-series and said it was "Jew Face". Yet, it was fine for her to be in Maestro with non-Jewish actor playing Bernstein.

by Anonymousreply 143January 8, 2024 3:09 AM

I haven’t seen Oppenheimer or Killers of the Flower Moon yet. I can’t sit in a movie theater that long! I’m waiting for them to come to a streaming service. Friends who have seen KOTFM said Gladstone’s performance is more of a Supporting role. True?

by Anonymousreply 144January 8, 2024 3:13 AM

I wonder if Robert De Niro will hit on Fantasia.

by Anonymousreply 145January 8, 2024 3:16 AM

Oppenheimer was ok....it was better than Barbie, but it wasnt a masterpiece. Havent seen The Holdovers or Poor Things though. Was rooting for The Society of Snow....if that had been an american pic it would have taken every category. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 146January 8, 2024 3:19 AM

May I add that I've always found it ironic that people of my generation are referred to as "BOOMers."

by Anonymousreply 147January 8, 2024 3:19 AM

R144 KOTDM debuts on Apple this Friday.

by Anonymousreply 148January 8, 2024 3:20 AM

Oprah doesn't do stairs!

by Anonymousreply 149January 8, 2024 3:20 AM

Kotfm^

by Anonymousreply 150January 8, 2024 3:20 AM

What was your favorite win?

by Anonymousreply 151January 8, 2024 3:23 AM

The Holdovers and American Fiction are both very overrated IMO. But then most everything is these days. Standards have slipped in a big way.

by Anonymousreply 152January 8, 2024 3:23 AM

R151 all the Sucession wins though they were exppected. All the rest I'm pretty meh about. I liked Barbie NOT winning anything worthwhile though.

by Anonymousreply 153January 8, 2024 3:28 AM

I was glad to see Ben Affleck having fun at an awards show. Being next to Matt makes all the difference.

by Anonymousreply 154January 8, 2024 3:29 AM

I'd still like to be in the middle of a Ben/Matt sandwich

by Anonymousreply 155January 8, 2024 3:31 AM

OOOH burn on BARBIE, the Daily Beast says

[quote]The #GoldenGlobes' new “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” category is totally pointless. Correct us if we're wrong, but participation trophies are not traditionally handed out to actual competition winners, right?

by Anonymousreply 156January 8, 2024 3:52 AM

[quote]In layman’s terms: The Golden Globes is honoring box office juggernauts that might not have otherwise been nominated, probably to get eyeballs on their ceremony. (And, even further simplified: The producers would likely love for the legions of diehard Swifties to tune into their program to see if Taylor Swift might win the award.) It’s all a not-so-clever ruse, an attempt at renewed relevancy

by Anonymousreply 157January 8, 2024 3:54 AM

Annette Bening is morphing into a middle aged late in life lesbian. I wonder if Warren can even have sex anymore.

by Anonymousreply 158January 8, 2024 5:23 AM

R158 even if he could would Annette even want to? He's so decrepit.

by Anonymousreply 159January 8, 2024 5:31 AM

No No NO to Dua's armpit hair

by Anonymousreply 160January 8, 2024 5:33 AM

Koy actually made every “Oppenheimer” joke imaginable except the most obvious one: I’m bombing up here!

by Anonymousreply 161January 8, 2024 5:35 AM

That was the dumbest, most boring, most unfunny award show in the history of award shows.

by Anonymousreply 162January 8, 2024 5:39 AM

[Quote] I haven’t seen Oppenheimer or Killers of the Flower Moon yet. I can’t sit in a movie theater that long! I’m waiting for them to come to a streaming service. Friends who have seen KOTFM said Gladstone’s performance is more of a Supporting role. True?

R144 She is the lead female character in a film that is 3h 26m long. She has more screen time than Best Actor/ Actress Oscar winners Patricia Neal (Hud) Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) Simone Signoret (Room at the Top) Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and Marlon Brando (The Godfather) did

by Anonymousreply 163January 8, 2024 5:45 AM

Matt Bomer was robbed. He should have won.

by Anonymousreply 164January 8, 2024 6:54 AM

What happened to the word "actress?"

A female who acts is an actress, not an actor.

by Anonymousreply 165January 8, 2024 6:56 AM

Annette Bening better win the Oscar, or there is going to be hell to pay from me!

by Anonymousreply 166January 8, 2024 6:57 AM

I never understood the Annette Bening Warren Beatty pairing. I always thought she was a lesbian, starting when I first saw her in the Grifters.

by Anonymousreply 167January 8, 2024 7:09 AM

I never got Kristen Wiig or Will Ferrell

by Anonymousreply 168January 8, 2024 7:09 AM

R144, Both movies have been available to watch via Amazon for a while.

by Anonymousreply 169January 8, 2024 7:19 AM

R146 I know. I also think what hurts Society of the Snow is the fact that Alive exists. Had Alive not been made, and this was the first movie about the accident, I think it would have done better. I think people frown upon remakes (though this isn't even a remake, it's just based on the same accident). I also blame the lack of buzz and promotion.

by Anonymousreply 170January 8, 2024 7:19 AM

R165, The feminine suffixes of words (-ess, -ix, etc.) have been dropped for some time now in the supposition that they implied "less than."

by Anonymousreply 171January 8, 2024 7:23 AM

R139, And it won't win any, though the SAG and Critics Choice awards don't always go the same way as the GG (BAFTA will). [See: 2023]

I said it then, I'll say it now: The nose controversy killed Bradley's awards chances.

the nose was the least of its problems. It stunk! 🐽🐽🐽

by Anonymousreply 173January 8, 2024 7:38 AM

Society of the Snow was robbed.

by Anonymousreply 174January 8, 2024 8:24 AM

R168, Kristen Wiig is a good actress. I loved her in Hateship Loveship. Check it out sometime.

by Anonymousreply 177January 8, 2024 11:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 178January 8, 2024 11:21 AM

I loved that Jennifer Lawrence said "I'm leaving if I don't win" when the camera panned to her.

by Anonymousreply 179January 8, 2024 11:40 AM

If there is no Hollywood Foreign Press anymore, why is there a Golden Globes? Who picks the 300 diverse people who decide the awards., I didn’t watch the whole show but did anyone explain how winners are picked. It was well produced but so dull.

by Anonymousreply 180January 8, 2024 11:53 AM

R180 the HFPA was absorbed into the new group. About 300 who picks the winners. From what I understand a broad spectrum of film critics and journalists from across the world. But they touted the HFPA as being the same when their credentials were shit for a lot of them. Their names might be on their website. They seemed to pick decent winners last night so there’s hope for the future.

R178 I know. That is what I also said in my post. Sadly a lot of people don't seem to get it and that's why they talk shit about the movie. The story has been told before though, albeit different, in a previous movie, even if it's from a different book. That is hurting its chances for awards. If it was the first time the story was told in a movie I think it would win more awards. It's not new-new, if that makes sense.

I think calling a woman who acts a "female actor" is a bit extra. She is an ACTRESS. There is nothing wrong with the term.

by Anonymousreply 188January 8, 2024 2:15 PM

Just curious. Are there any (other) surviving current titles that differentiates the sexes?

by Anonymousreply 191January 8, 2024 3:23 PM

R188. Except that the male form (actor) is used as the universal generic. I find the terms “male actor” and “female actor” slightly clumsy, too, but so is most linguistic change at the beginning (I remember a gigh school teacher of French in the mid-1970s, saying to us with disdain, “Ms. Is a disease not a title.” Of course, she gloried in her widowhood and also saw herself as a femme fatale—buck teeth, sweaty armpits, post-menopausal as she was. Now, I think Ms. is the default, unless a woman introduces herself otherwise (and I was taught that forms of address were just that—how other people called you. It would have been gauche, except with small children, who were learning about such things, to introduce yourself as, say, “Mrs. Norman Maine.”

Not sure if this was mentioned or not yet but would it kill Ryan Gosling to fucking smile? I know that Koyjo or whatever tanked like a MF, and the camera panned to Ryan at one point when he mentioned Barbie. He had such an assholish expression on his face. Lighten up, asshole! Even DeNiro laughed at that positively awful joke about him. Be gracious, it's not hard. Prick.

by Anonymousreply 209January 8, 2024 10:00 PM

I’ve read he’s very funny when he jokes about his Filipino background. And when he relies on his own material. Due to landing the gig so late, he had to rely heavily on writers. They must’ve been Bob Hope holdovers.

by Anonymousreply 210January 8, 2024 10:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 212January 8, 2024 10:07 PM

The host went on way too long at the beginning and he wasn't funny. The presenters also spent too much time on stage. I enjoyed the awards being presented but other than that the show sucked, the worst Golden Globes show ever, in my opinion.

R207 DeNiro hasn’t won anything in 43 years in competitive categories. He just shows up to promote the films he does. Meryl wins plenty at the Globes, so I’m sure there is some expectation she might win. by Anonymousreply 246January 9, 2024 2:06 PM

I think Natasha saw that everything could be very easily taken away from her when she was a drug addict and no one would hire her. She really scrapped her way back into good favor, taking tiny roles in shitty indies and horror films, rehabilitating her appalling reputation, and making sure she never went back to that place and time. I admire the fuck out of her for that. She probably wants to make sure she's set for life, no matter what it takes.

That being said, I hear she's a total nightmare to work with now, so I guess the humble train only travels so far.

by Anonymousreply 247January 9, 2024 4:02 PM

I don’t think Swift actually heard the joke. She was lifting her wine glass to chug some and I think that brunette harpy she brought with her was yammering in Swift’s ear.

"Natasha also got paid to do a Dunkin Donuts tie in. “Getting ready with Dunkin” Dunkin, Old Navy…….Such odd choices. She’s trying to get every dime out of her second wind of fame."

Makes sense. Ad work is probably the best way to secure income for a big percentage of actors. Look at the advertising landscape - the number of big or semi-big name celebs in ad campaigns is mind-boggling. Clearly, there's no longer any substantial view that such work is "selling out" or otherwise a negative thing (not that such a view was ever universal, but it was definitely a thing). Being a corporate shill is completely fine now and celebs are smartly "securing the bag" while they can.

by Anonymousreply 251January 9, 2024 4:49 PM

"Securing the bag."

by Anonymousreply 252January 9, 2024 4:51 PM

For chrissakes, it's not just about the money, it's also about keeping your face out there.

by Anonymousreply 253January 9, 2024 5:27 PM

Looked to me like Taylor was reaching for her drink while her squad member yammered, she paused for a split second when hearing the football reference, before being sure the joke would include her. Then realizing it would, continued and took a long slow sip, giving her best totally disinterested stare. Burn.

by Anonymousreply 254January 10, 2024 12:41 AM

r247, I'm working on a small indie with some great names, and Natasha was attached to one of the characters. I was pretty excited to work with her, and when I mentioned it to the director, he told me that she wasn't attached anymore (it was old casting info we got), and that he was glad she wasn't doing it.

She looks great in that Dunkin Donuts ad, but she looks way too skinny in the Old Navy ads.

by Anonymousreply 255January 10, 2024 5:18 AM

I hope The Emmys have the smarts to give The Last of Us something. The Golden Globes ignored the series.

by Anonymousreply 256January 10, 2024 5:38 AM

Oh, no. Don’t break my heart and tell me Natasha Lyonne has become a nightmare to work with. That’s a real shame if true. I was hoping she’d age into a long career and become our next great talk show broad in an Elizabeth Ashley/Suzanne Pleshette/Carrie Fisher sort of way.

by Anonymousreply 257January 10, 2024 7:41 AM

Miss Flo looked terrible. Poor thing has no waist and not much chest, and that dress does nothing for her. Neither do the hair and bull nose ring.

JLo = va va voom.

Gillian Anderson looked great but I wish she'd go back to red hair. We have enough blondes already.

by Anonymousreply 258January 10, 2024 3:01 PM

Agree r258. I never understood her move to blond. She was striking as a redhead and with a modern cut and style, it would be far superior to the washed out colour she sports now.

by Anonymousreply 259January 10, 2024 7:26 PM

That harpie that Taylor took with her is Miles Teller's wife. She seems desperate to suck up to Tay Tay, gave her a huge (ugly) opal ring for her birthday. Then when Selena came over to gossip at the GG, they were whispering and the harpie blew it by saying "Timothee?!" and people could read her lips.

by Anonymousreply 260January 10, 2024 8:54 PM

Say what you will about J-Lo, but her hair, makeup, and dress were beautiful

by Anonymousreply 261January 10, 2024 8:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 263January 10, 2024 11:31 PM

r258, she has the same problem that Nicole has- she's completely gray/white. Very hard to maintain: red fades more quickly than other colors), and the roots grow out too fast.

[quote]Very hard to maintain: red fades more quickly than other colors

She can afford hair stylists! No excuses!

by Anonymousreply 265January 11, 2024 11:30 AM

It's not the ability to afford, it's the maintenance- every two weeks .is a pain in the ass. With blonde, you can get away with every 4 weeks. Especially for film/tv, it is hard to keep continuity with color.
