Victoria was introduced to drugs by her husband and his former best friend. All 3 of them got hooked on drugs and went to rehab. Charles went to a place in South Africa. That's how he came to like South Africa, and eventually move there. Charles was lucky and was able to clean up his act, at least drug wise. He was and still is a piece of shit. His best friend and Victoria were like most addicts that go to rehab, they relapsed.

It would be very hard to try to stay clean while living with Charles. He cheated on her every chance he got. He's a chronic, chronic liar. He gaslit and undermined her and their children for decades. He's a horrible, horrible person. He's treated everyone in his life terribly. Most of his children have gone through long periods of time not talking to him. Since they've become adults, the four children that charles had with Victoria have actually been much closer to their Spencer Aunts (Sarah & Jane) than they are with their father. And vice versa. Sarah & Jane barely tolerate their brother. And we all know what Charles did to Diana. She might still be alive if he hadn't been so selfish & cruel to her.

His daughters Kitty & Amelia didn't invite their father to their weddings. They chose their brother(s) to walk them down the aisle instead. They didn't want him there. He wasn't invited. Charles ruins every relationship he's ever had with people - friend wise, family wise, romantic wise, business wise, you name it, he's ruined it.

Victoria has gone on to lead a wonderful life with her wonderful children, who all love her. Unlike like her ex-husband, who is miserable and drinks too much.
