The picture of the homophobic neighbor, Mike Washer, tells us a lot about what's really going on here.
Gay couple sells Virginia restaurant at center of small-town dispute

American Taliban.

Mister Washer is the rest area type and his bitter wife is projecting her anger about being married to a flaming closet case onto the two gay men next door.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 3, 2024 10:52 PM |
-Over the years, the Washers have also raised protests over the restaurant’s trash, deliveries and customer parking.
These people have NO LIVES, imagine dedicating your existence to eradicating something that impacts you in no way whatsoever other than the fact that they exist. Now their evil spawn is in the local government probably looking for further ways to inflict harm to other people they hate.

R2 My thoughts exactly.

A straight guy would never do this! They’re never bigots and they totally want to fuck me too!

Take a look at him, R5. His favorite candle scent is Penis.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 3, 2024 11:34 PM |
Did you see the shirt Mike Washer is wearing? Kind of queenie. And Washer does have gayface.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 3, 2024 11:35 PM |
And his lil hairdo.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 3, 2024 11:49 PM |
The only time the Washer couple speak to one another is when they're bitching about the fags next door.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 3, 2024 11:50 PM |
I hope people in town ignore the Washer's and make them persona non grata. Just exclude them - talk over, past them - don't say "excuse me" when you need to walk past them (just move left or right, pick up your pace and move on).
Of course, if some townies want to start making complaints about the Washers, feel free.

What miserable lowlife fucking rats these conservative Christian assholes, and how small is their world that they would devote years to trying to trash their neighbors by any means.
Living in a small town next to a restaurant, it's almost certain that there will be inconveniences and differences of opinion. Any reasonable person would have for seen this and set about to resolve problems amicably. But that was never the simple path for these assholes, instead they chose to be petty and ridiculous at every turn, to shun reason in favor of public conflict.
I have some acquaintance with one of the (now former) owners and know him to be the opposite of petty and mean-spirited, and know something of both his more than reasonable nature and his generosity towards others. He's not someone who would stir a bee's nest to appear a victim; he would not hesitate to find a solution to a problem among neighbors. From what I know of him, from what is presented in the Washington Post's coverage, it's clear the neighbors wanted to make a stand and cause trouble at any costs.
It's a shame the two owners had to exit what should never have bren a fight had the neighbors not been hell-bent on escalating to a war to serve some bigger purpose in their minds.
I'm not so reasoned and kindly as the departing owners and wish their conservative Christian ex-neighbors much misery.

They should have given them a free Once Around the Garden in exchange for leaving them alone

Waybourne has a mixed record with the Washington Blade. he was part of the purchase by the odious Chris Crain (Libertarian gay who owned Southern Voice) who ran it into the ground. Then he took it over with the backing of the investors who bought what was left from Crain. The Blade has mostly recovered.
The DCCityPaper also was bought by crappy Atlanta newspaper owners at the same time and run into the ground. It's back but a shell of its former self.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 4, 2024 1:14 AM |
But poor Virginia, did she feel forced into buying that damned restaurant!?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 4, 2024 2:05 AM |
I knew people like the Washers in the early 1980's out in Northwestern. Reagan Christian Conservatives, 2 male cousins, took their bible and themselves far too seriously. Very rich, very connected Midwest family. They were never wrong, always had an issue with people they considered different. They transferred out of Northwestern after the 1st year. The only way to deal with these kinds of people is "swift, senseless violence" against them. The Gay couple should have burned their home down, it's not hard.
I met the boy's father that summer in Lake Forrest, what a piece of work he was.

Bullies always win. Sad. I wish the best of us could all break away, move somewhere and find the nation of Empathystan or something.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 4, 2024 2:26 AM |
Especially when the bullies have money.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 4, 2024 2:35 AM |
The gay couple were old. They didn't have it in them to fight assholes. It's not like the Washers shut down some Gen Z lgbt youth center run by J Lo.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 4, 2024 2:41 AM |
Mike Washer is a dirty faggot hypocrite
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 4, 2024 3:59 AM |
Bullies don’t always win. Remember the shoveling snow shootings? They had it coming just like these too should.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 4, 2024 9:58 AM |
The closet case, his wife, and son should all be publicly executed for being a part of the January 6 hillbilly riot at The Capitol.

Chris Crain was hot back in the day.

Sigh. Times like these I wish I could inhabit other people for a little while. Id pop into one of those old queens and show mister asshole bigot what a vicious cunt a faggot can be. The second he said shit to me Id go nuclear on his ass. I grew up in a redneck lower class area,I know his kind and I know how to really get to them.

For those not in the DC metro area, The Plains is only an hour outside of DC and it, along with Middleburg, is a popular weekend destination or day trip. Although the area is somewhat rural, people are relatively sophisticated and open-minded in this quaint, historical area. It’s not some remote holler with inbred residents , which makes it all the more depressing that the Washers are such bigoted asswipes.
The Front Porch Grill was popular and often packed. Too bad the owners had to deal with this.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 18, 2025 3:22 PM |
I’m not going to debate the innocence of the people in this town, but if anyone cares to do a deeper dive into this story, you’ll find that the couple isn’t without fault themselves and seems to have either provoked or baited some of the bullshit they’ve suffered from. Doesn’t make the townspeople who harassed them right and there should never have been a problem with this place. But according to some of the local reporting, at least one of the owners seemed to be looking for controversy from the beginning. But of course it’s America and the narrative must be yin and yang, an evil side and an angelic side. God forbid there be an objective story that speaks to the complexity of this issue and the faults on both sides.

R31, in what ways did the gay couple provoke or bait the Christian fundies?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 18, 2025 5:28 PM |
Wasn't the restaurant owned by the gay couple sold a year and half ago? I don't quite understand why it was bumped.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 18, 2025 5:45 PM |
I would never live in Virginia.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 18, 2025 6:06 PM |
Trumptard alert @ R31.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 18, 2025 6:12 PM |
R35 - yeah - stealth Trumper, but I agree. R31, provide what you've found - otherwise you're backing a Jan 6th couple who has been suing the heck out of them and with video proof of them planting a rat. Where's YOUR proof?

Also r31:
*Trump calls Springsteen "a dried out prune of a rocker."*
[quote]I mean, he does have a point. Springsteen has been sniffing up his own ass for decades, he’s convinced himself he’s Dylan, Gandhi, Rosa Parks and Shakespeare all wrapped up in one. Like Trump himself, Bruce Springsteen has become the embodiment of out-of-touch elitist entitlement pretending to connect to the “working class”. Fuck him.
*The people who post Trump diatribes in very single thread no matter the subject,*
[quote]They’re women, aren’t they?
[quote]I mean, every fucking thread. And it doesn’t seem like it’s typically gay men. Somebody in the David Geffen divorce thread made a poor attempt at a Trump link and wrote a whole paragraph imagining Melania changing Trump’s diaper. What the fuck is it with these people who have to stain every topic and discussion by reminding us of that asshole?!!
