I have heard this about Lululemon, and they can kiss my ample ass.

Oh god you stupid old white man. Richer than god and it's never enough. Just shrug it off and go play golf. Why do these types always want to have everything their way, even long after they step back? Fucking cunts

He said he named the company Lululemon specifically because he knew Asian women would have a hard time pronouncing the letter “l” in the nsme, and they would say it “Rururemon”. I don’t think a commitment to DEI was high on his list of priorities from the get go.

It's a tough needle to thread, in fashion. Exhibit: Karl Lagerfeld. Who despised fat customers.
A fashion company may profit on appealing to aspirational types and also want the image of exclusivity. Enough consumers are damaged that these are factors in their decision. I AM A SIZE 2 AND I BUY "EXPENSIVE" "EXCLUSIVE" BRANDS THAT ARE ONLY AVAILABLE TO SLIM PEOPLE WITH MONEY.
However it can be argued that inclusivity has been successfully rebranded itself and its trendy to be a brand that is democratic and embraces all the market.
I don't know the sales numbers so can't decide which plan produces the best results, nowadays.

I’m glad someone in this day and age has the balls to say it. It’s work out gear at heart. Fat girls are obviously not working out. Not everything is for everybody and people need to realize that and get over it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 3, 2024 7:26 PM |
Many fat girls are working out, though.
Really it boils down to the traditional conception of fashion and entire sections of the industry that are built on NOT being democratic and fair.

R10 that’s what got us in this mess in the first place - the lies. But if fat girls are indeed working out, then let them start off in Walmart sweats and aspire to fitting into a pair of Lululemon. That’s how the world works. It’s not just handed to you to squeeze into, you have to work for it.

If he wants to limit his clothing sizes to those that emphasize the skinny bitch ethos of his brand, I wouldn't argue against his reasoning. But look at that photo (OP's link) with the eye wrinkles wrapping around his cue ball bald head like a pair of those solarized sunshades given away if you buy enough Winston cigarettes, but worst of all that hyena laugh of an asshole too accustomed to his executive team of ass-lickers and yes-men following this ghoul around calling him brilliant at every opportunity.
I agree with R2, people who start companies, making a fucking fortune beyond imagination, and then keep the thing alive as if it were his genius rather than good luck and good timing that landed him rich as fuck. At this point he's surely more liability than asset, but he lingers around like a turd in a punchbowl, trying to stay relevant so he will have an audience for his 'you too can be a billionaire' seminars and half-baked ideas that do nothing but feed his ego.
To move on from a success (or a failure) is a great virtue in life, to quit at the right time or before it gets to the point of being sad. But this fool thinks he's an important voice.

[quote] “The reason the Japanese liked [my former skateboard brand, ‘Homeless’] was because it had an L in it and a Japanese marketing firm wouldn’t come up with a brand name with an L in it. L is not in their vocabulary. It’s a tough pronunciation for them. So I thought, next time I have a company, I’ll make a name with three Ls and see if I can get three times the money. It’s kind of exotic for them. I was playing with Ls and I came up with Lululemon. It’s funny to watch them try to say it.” – Wilson in a 2004 interview with National Post Business Magazine

R43 they won't need to hold up to the rigors of exercise, because that's not what those customers are wearing them for.
In a country where supermarkets provide motorized scooters for the shopping ease of obese people, we can't forget how much incentive there is for keeping overweight people on a consumer treadmill (if no other).

I just came back from spending time in the States visiting family for Christmas. I must say the Athleisure trend has ruined America and has made it such a lazy and slovenly looking place. Every mother, daughter, grandma is out walking in skin tight yoga pants with their asses and cooters hanging out - fat, skinny, old, young, it doesn't matter. A woman walked by in regular jeans and it looked like she stepped out of the 1950s. When you pull back and look at it all, it's kind of gross. Did you just get out of bed? Are you really going to the gym? Why must the world see your asscrack while standing in line at Starbucks? Men are just as sloppy in their shower shoes and socks. But at least you don't see the dimples in their ass cheeks or a cameo of their moose knuckle. I think to be fair, men should start walking around in yoga pants with them stretched out over their cock and balls - let's see how society reacts.

Good point R52, I didnt think of that. They may however not hold up to the rigors of holding back immense bulk though, which could result in sudden structural failure in public - not so much a wardrobe malfunction as a wardrobe catastrophe
R7 I can fit into Abercrombie and Fitch stuff just fine, i just cant afford to buy it unless its a lucky thrift shop find
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 5, 2024 8:07 AM |
I just can't bear fat bodies. I think there should be fat catchers, like dog catchers, to go around and put big nets over fat people and take them all someplace and get them slimmed down. And then show them what really good eating is, because what they're doing is advertising their unhappiness and their anger or frustration for everyone to see, and I don't want to see it.

Why don’t people ever get upset that there are a few companies making clothes for big guys? It’s always everyone getting upset about women not having access to something. Any bigger guy here knows what I mean. When you go into Target and walk through the women’s section on your way to the men’s section and they have “fat“ female, mannequins. but everything in the men’s section only goes up to a very tight, XL, and that’s if you can find it because all the fat women buy up their shit as well as men’s clothes. If you were a guy who needs a well fitting shirt, that’s extra large or bigger your shit out of luck yet the women have what seems like endless choices.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2024 6:30 PM |
Frankly, I am turned off by "inclusive" sizing and am likely to turn away from plus size ads and mannequins. Companies have the right to market the image they want to portray, and customers can signal their approval with their wallets.
