Datalounge please tell me the name of your current mattress and why you love it
I need a new mattress and I am having trouble coming up with a short list.
The mattress industry is an extremely crooked industry that has, among other things, seeded the internet with paid notices and sponsored reviews, making it impossible to find a genuine recommendation anywhere online.
So I would love to hear from Datalounge. Do you have a mattress that you love?
If it helps, I am looking for a queen-sized, firm mattress, either spring coil or hybrid. I can spend up to $2,000 on it.

I buy 150 dollar spring mattresses at Aldi. They are made in Germany! They last about 3 years on my bed. Forever on day beds. I just put a breathable mattress cover on them. Then my sheets. In winter a wool mattress pad. Uncomplicated breathable spring mattresses are great heat regulators in summer. And mattresses are kind of gross so it's great to chuck them and have something fresh regularly.

I bought an old fashioned hand tufted mattress from Beloit. I had no idea how hard and lumpy it would be. I bought a thick soft latex topper from Sleeponlatex and that made it much better.

I bought a Mint mattress. It’s medium firm and doesn’t bounce when you turn. It’s very comfortable and I love it.

I got a hybrid pillow top, memory foam Mancini mattress in 2021. Prior to that I bought my last two mattresses online, and they weren’t that comfortable. My conclusion is, you really need to physically go to a store and try out the mattresses. I’m happy with the Mancini for two reasons. One, it’s firm yet comfortable. Two, I have a bed frame that works best with a box spring. I ordered the wrong height boxspring (it should have been low profile) and I put off correcting the issue until the 1 year warranty almost expired. I called Mancini’s, talked to the same salesman who sold me the mattress and he had the new box spring delivered and installed the next day, took away the old one, no charge, no problems.

Apparently, you're supposed to switch them out every seven years, but - horrors - some people wait for 10 years.
Yeah, I've had mine a lot longer than 10 years, but it's fine.

I have a Casper mattress, one of the early, if not the first versions. I imagine it’s about 10 years old now. It’s firm but comfortable, not hot like I was afraid it might be, and looks the same as the day I got it. It cost about $800, much less than a quality standard mattress at the time.

I have a Birch natural latex mattress and I love it. I sleep hot so I can’t stand memory foam, even the ones that claim to have cooling technology. I threw away my $4k tempurpedic mattress and don’t regret it at all.

Sleep Number; put it on an electric adjustable frame; queen sized for both should be within your budget .

I've had a Tempur-Pedic Comfort Select since 2012. I'm planning on getting a new mattress in a couple of years most likely. I got a nice memory foam mattress topper that is buying it sometime. But I dislike that mattresses are expensive and rely mainly on pseudoscience to give you the illusion that "this is better."
I do like memory foam personally, as I deal with allergies. But my mind is open to whatever I may choose in the future. I might go back to the springs.

Costco was selling a basic model Duxiana here recently for $2000 I think. They're usually like $5000, but if you love to sleep and hate back pain then a Dux is worth looking into.

the motel room i have for this month has a big mystery stain and is sunken in on one side, it hurts my back really bad but i can't afford a mattress topper. it's just not a priority.

Coil spring sleeper all my life till 4 years ago.
Bought a SleepNumber basic model after learning most new coil spring mattresses only have one wear surface (no flipping!) to shorten the buying cycle.
A SleepNumber mattress doesn't need to be flipped or rotated.
No regrets with my SleepNumber mattress. Good value.

What a strange industry. It really is impossible to get trustworthy mattress reviews online. I think I need to go in person to try them out.

Has anyone noticed lately how many mattress ads have an attractive woman lying on the mattress with the soles of her feet to the camera? So odd to have fetishism driving marketing. I disapprove. It should be an attractive MAN!

I rolled the dice and bought a Helix Plus about two years ago. I love it.
Helix didn’t live up to its word about removing the old mattress, but I am really happy with their product.

Sterns and Foster. Specifically Premier Luxury Firm. I'm on my third one in 20 years (one is in the guest room). I sleep on my stomach and really like the firmness with just the right amount of "cush".

R26/OP, I was determined to get a Saatva, but couldn't bring myself to buy it without trying it. Go to a Mattress Firm, if you're in the US, they're EVERYWHERE, I LOVE the mattress I ultimately purchased, I fell for it in the showroom bc it's beyond firm. Also, bc it's a make that the store contracted from the OEM, I paid substantially less than I would've with Saatva.

Serta. I love it because they pay me to love it.

Olee Sleep Full Size Mattress. It's 13 inches thick and is firm for my bad back, but supremely comfortable. I got it off of Amazon for $280 about two years ago. It came bundled up in a cylindrical box. It was so heavy. I thought that they had sent me the wrong size, but when I opened it, the instructions said to let it sit out so it could expand to its size. It was like a life raft or something. I love this mattress.

Usually it is just the opposite. For example, if you buy a Beautyrest Harmony Lux direct from Beautyrest, you can get it for $1200 or less. But if you try to buy the same mattress under the equivalent store brand, you will pay $1600 or more.
Mattress stores are notorious for this shit, so I would be very surprised if you actually got something cheaper at a retailer versus buying direct.

It’s called the Blanche Devereaux. I’ve had it for over 50 years. It’s had more men landing on it than the beaches of Normandy during WWII. It’s been known to keep more than just a man’s back firm while he’s sleeping…..

I could sleep comfortably on a bath towel laid on the floor, so long as I had some sort of pillow and, even more, a good blanket or soft sheets to cover me. Like OP, my partner and I settle on a cost limit and I leave my partner to select the one he liked best (within a high end of low range, or low end of middle range). We have bought both on-line and from the classic sort of mattress stores and have been very satisfied with both methods.
[quote]I am looking for a queen-sized, firm mattress, either spring coil or hybrid. I can spend up to $2,000
Because OP knows the size, firmness, construction type, and budget, I would narrow the question as to whether he prefers a mail-order or a mattress store experience and ask for recommendations based on that. Some people are delicate flowers about their sleep or have physical conditions that dictate the choice, others like me just have the simplest of criteria and don't care about the latest in edge support features, etc. I think a lot of people when it comes time to buy a new mattress consider a lot of factors that they never gave a thought to in the past; they overthink (and overpay for) what for many is a decision with many choices but quite possibly a few basic wants.

I had a bed from 1991 to like 2017?
I got replacement at Sit and Sleep; the sales guy sold me something really high end; the frame is electric and in the words of Home Simpson 'Bed goes up; bed goes down' it's a been a lifesaver as I have acid reflux (well, not so much anymore that I stopped eating like shit).
He told me the Egyptian sheets and pillow cases; they're so much better!

I've always had the best sleeps on a classic pillowtop mattress. The last one I bought, I tested each mattress in two stores until I got the right one. FYI - Furniture stores are desperate to sell mattresses and will give you gift cards for "test drives"

Boxspring (Sultan) + Mattress from IKEA, now 10 years old and still in perfect condition. I placed a mattress topper with memory foam on top, made the experience even better. Total cost (2x boxspring, 1x big mattress, 1x mattress cover) is about €1000 / $1100
