Jermaine Jackson in trouble

Accused of sexual assault in law suit.

by Anonymousreply 107March 14, 2024 12:56 PM

In the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Rita Barrett accuses Mr. Jackson, 69, of sexual abuse, sexual battery, sexual assault, harassment and rape relating to an incident that she says happened at her Los Angeles home in 1988. In the court papers, Ms. Barrett says that Mr. Jackson forcefully entered her home and assaulted her, inflicting “severe emotional, physical and psychological injury, including humiliation, shame, and guilt, economic loss, economic capacity and permanent emotional distress.”

Ms. Barrett’s court filing says she came into contact with Mr. Jackson through her role as a musician’s contractor and as a member of a union that represents musicians. The complaint says she also knew Mr. Jackson through Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, who had a personal and business relationship with Mr. Barrett’s husband.

by Anonymousreply 1December 30, 2023 2:04 AM

In her suit, Ms. Barrett says that she told Mr. Gordy what happened the following day, but he “withheld and concealed the acts, further perpetuating the coverup and allowing Mr. Gordy, Defendant Jackson and others in the business relationship to continue to reap profits derived from Mr. Jackson’s work and reputation for years to come.”

Ms. Barrett is requesting a jury trial.

Michael Pellegrino, president of Artists Management Agency, which has represented Mr. Jackson since 2014, said the agency would be parting ways with the musician because of the suit.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy concerning these matters,” Mr. Pellegrino wrote in an email to The Times on Friday. “We wish him well but we must feel comfortable about who we represent and unfortunately at this moment we must take in consideration our other clients who do not feel comfortable with the current allegations.”

Jeff Anderson, a lawyer for Ms. Barrett, said that his client decided to file the suit after learning that California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act allows certain sexual abuse claims to be revived that would otherwise be barred by the statute of limitations.

“The first thing that she and we want by having brought this case is for it to be known that Jermaine Jackson committed a very serious crime,” Mr. Anderson added.

by Anonymousreply 2December 30, 2023 2:05 AM

Guess being a disgusting perv runs in the Jackson family

by Anonymousreply 3December 30, 2023 2:07 AM

Ms. Barrett says that Mr. Jackson forcefully entered her home and assaulted her by playing his latest CD, inflicting “severe emotional, physical and psychological injury, including humiliation, shame, and guilt, economic loss, economic capacity and permanent emotional distress.”

No he didn’t! do it!!! I have to go see him! Mrs. Garrett PLEASE!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 5December 30, 2023 2:10 AM

The whole Jackson family are crooks, grifters, sexual predators and paedophiles - not to mention paedophile apologists and defenders.

His management dumps him. so much for loyalty and innocent until proven guilty.

by Anonymousreply 13December 30, 2023 8:23 AM

What would "management" of Jermaine Jackson entail, exactly?

Anyway, I think his lawyers will make a deal with the DA for Jermaine to plead guilty to the lesser offense of intentional infliction of emotional distress with a jheri curl.

by Anonymousreply 14December 30, 2023 8:59 AM

1988? Girl, fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 15December 30, 2023 9:48 AM

I think there is no statute of limitations on a sexual assault charge.

by Anonymousreply 16December 30, 2023 11:12 AM

I am confused as to why attorneys take cases where the offense happened so long ago. Are they reading the room and thinking it will work, why? Courts and politics are so inconsistent.

by Anonymousreply 17December 30, 2023 11:27 AM

Maybe the defendant tried repeatedly to get a payout from the family and got sick of them saying no.

by Anonymousreply 29December 30, 2023 12:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 60January 2, 2024 12:43 AM

It might just be locker-room talk™, but he sounds super creepy (and very immature):

[quote]Jermaine’s mind had one track. On one visit to New York, where he was crashing with a friend, Jermaine was interviewed by the Fox News anchor Rita Cosby — then spent the rest of the weekend talking about how it was his mission to “do” her in a hotel bedroom.

[quote]The next time we spoke of Cosby, Jermaine shocked me by adding that he wanted to “bang Nancy Grace,” who is viewed as a family nemesis.

[quote]“Just one time with that heifer,” he said. “I bet she won’t say anything bad about Michael anymore. She’ll just be thinking about her one night with the man! Jermaine.”

[quote]Jermaine did have many a conquest. In New York in 2001, for Michael’s 30th Anniversary Special concerts, Jermaine’s cellphone rang. Someone on the line told him Whitney Houston, a former lover of his, needed help. He hung up and turned to me. “She’s like Michael. She’s messed up on those drugs,” he said. “You know I used to wear her a– out. I know she’d take me back and get rid of that (expletive) Bobby Brown. Plus, I should just get with her before she loses all that money she’s made.”

[quote]“I feel it’s my duty with Whitney, man,” Jermaine said. “She told me she never stopped loving me. I can get with her and I should. I just don’t know how she’d act to have me in that bed instead of Bobby. I might be too much for her. But I’d get her off the drugs. She’d be high, but only on Jermaine.”

While I am certainly no apologist for Michael and his pedophilia, plastic surgery, and other insanity, I do believe he probably suffered with the burden of the rest of his showbiz family (the exception being Janet), most of them being nobodies by the mid 80s when he was at his peak. Jermaine always seemed jealous of Michael, and also seemed to think of himself as being a much bigger star than he actually was. At best he was D List by the 80s and virtually a non-entity thereafter. Nothing surprises me about these allegations, though it is a bit late to be going after him now, so long after the fact.

Rebbie was not dependent on Michael financially. While he did write and produce her only big hit, she was a married woman with her own family. LaToya had a recording contract and did her own thing. The rest of the brothers were probably living off of publishing and residuals. They also continued touring throughout the '80s, and still do. Michael (and Janet) just made sure that their mother was ok financially.

Not likely r67. They have had money issues for years. It came out a few years ago Katherine Jackson was giving money to Jermaine, Latoya, Rebbie and Randy from the stipend she was getting from Michael’s estate.

The Jackson’s wrote none of their Motown hits and post Motown Michael wrote their biggest hits with the exception of enjoy yourself.

Those Stacy articles never get old…

by Anonymousreply 71January 2, 2024 11:07 AM

Is it true he named two of his kids Jermajesty?

by Anonymousreply 72January 2, 2024 2:29 PM

Randy and Jermaine have kids by the same woman, so that makes the kids sibling/cousins.

by Anonymousreply 73January 2, 2024 3:53 PM

[quote] post Motown Michael wrote their biggest hits with the exception of enjoy yourself.

Not so. Gamble and Huff wrote their early post-Motown hits, and some of their biggest hits as The Jacksons (Can You Feel It, Shake Your Body…etc.) were co-written by Michael and other brothers.

by Anonymousreply 74January 2, 2024 3:57 PM

Jermaine could cash in if he wrote that tell-all book but the family might punish him.

by Anonymousreply 78January 2, 2024 10:59 PM

I'm sure he did it. But, this happened in 1988?? It's time to get over it and move on. This is a he said/she said situation that can't be proven because there is no evidence.

by Anonymousreply 79January 2, 2024 11:07 PM

[quote]Who is second?

Janet would be second, although she’s the Jackson family act (solo or group) with the longest-running Hot 100 #1 hit and the only one with 7 top 5 Billboard pop hits from one album. Her albums are also deeper and more introspective than Michael’s, but that’s a story for another time.

They had three top 10 pop hits as The Jacksons - one of which was written by Gamble & Huff and the other two which were written by Michael and someone else - one of those being “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground),” which was co-written with Randy. Your post at R70 insinuates that Michael wrote all of their big hits post-Motown by himself with the exception of one, which is incorrect.

R65 the lyrics to ‘word to the Badd’ are kind of poignant.

“ Jermaine’s song includes lyrics such as: Reconstructed. Been abducted. Don’t know who you are. Think they love you. They don’t know you. Lonely superstar . . . .”

I think that upbringing and his extreme success did him no favors. It’s a sad story and I think the rest of that family got messed up too.
