L’Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers is the first woman with a $100 billion fortune

Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the L’Oreal heiress and richest woman in the world, has become the first woman to hold a $100 billion fortune, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, which reflects changes as of 5 pm ET of the previous trading day, lists Bettencourt Meyers as the 12th richest person, just ahead of Mukesh Ambani and behind Carlos Slim, who recently became the first person from Latin America to cross the $100 billion threshold.

L’Oreal’s stock is at a record high. The stock has risen 35% this year as consumers have continued splurging on luxury products since the pandemic.

According to L’Oréal, in 2022 Bettencourt Meyers and her family owned more than 34% of the company’s stock.

Bettencourt Meyers was the only child of Liliane Bettencourt, whose father, Eugène Schueller, founded the L’Oréal Group. She inherited her mother’s holdings when Bettencourt died in 2017. Bettencourt Meyers is the chairwoman of the family’s holding company, Tethys, and is the vice chairwoman of L’Oreal Group’s board of directors.

The world’s largest cosmetics company, which owns a wide portfolio of brands from Lancome to Maybelline, had more than €38 billion ($42 billion) in sales in 2022, according to company reports.

Earlier this year, L’Oreal bought Australian brand Aesop in a $2.5 billion deal, the biggest brand acquisition ever made by the French beauty giant. Its previous record was its $1.7 billion purchase of of YSL Beauté in 2008, according to data from Dealogic.

Bettencourt Meyers’ fortune still relatively pales in comparison to LVMH chair Bernard Arnault, the world’s largest maker of luxury goods. He’s the second-richest person in the world according to the index, with a net worth of $179 billion.

Aesop was fun while it lasted. 🫡

All that money and she still can't find someone to fix that hair.

Sad.

by Anonymousreply 2December 29, 2023 10:46 AM

All that money from a company that sells many lines of hair products, no less.

by Anonymousreply 3December 29, 2023 11:03 AM

It's a total power move to have shit hair while at the helm of a global beauty empire.

by Anonymousreply 4December 29, 2023 11:13 AM

She looks like my Aunt Laura.

The Netflix documentary on the struggle between Francoise, her mother and her mother's gay gold digger "boyfriend" who nearly swindled Francoise out off a large chunk of her inheritance is lots of fun.

I was coming in for the hair joke, too. We gays are funny.

by Anonymousreply 8December 29, 2023 12:29 PM

lol,r4 and so true

by Anonymousreply 9December 29, 2023 12:39 PM

The entire family has a very interesting history. Françoise Bettencourt Meyers was raised a devout Catholic and then married Jean-Pierre Meyers who was the grandson of a prominent Jewish rabbi murdered at Auschwitz. She converted to Judaism and raised both sons Jewish (circumcised and Bar Mitzvahed) Françoise's grandfather, Eugène Schueller, was a nazi sympathizer and supporter during the nazi occupation. He was also the pharmacist founder of L'Oreal's empire. They must have had interesting Thanksgiving dinners!! The grandson is quite handsome. He's also late 30s, unmarried, no girlfriend or children. He would be quite a catch!!!

by Anonymousreply 10December 29, 2023 12:48 PM

NEPO baby

by Anonymousreply 11December 29, 2023 1:05 PM

R10- Of course.

The French are full of shit anyway.

What did the French waiter say when the Nazis marched into Paris? Table for 70,000?

by Anonymousreply 12December 29, 2023 1:07 PM

Oh, like we didn’t all make her a 100 billionaire buying revitalift and collagen 🙄

by Anonymousreply 13December 29, 2023 1:11 PM

Channeling Charles Nelson Reilly there.

by Anonymousreply 14December 29, 2023 1:12 PM

Wow, R10.

That must be an interesting internal conflict for her son.

On one side of the family are Nazi sympathizers, and on the other side are family members who died in the Holocaust.

Weird.

Françoise's father was gay, as was her mother's "gentleman friend" following the parent's divorce. Francoise's mother Liliane opening ridiculed her daughter's ability to eventually take over the business, saying she had neither the looks nor the style to manage a beauty business. Guess Francoise had the last laugh.

She might consider splashing out on a personal trainer and a little face work.

[quote] L’Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers is the first woman with a $100 billion fortune

Because she's worth it.

by Anonymousreply 18December 29, 2023 5:51 PM

The only thing I know about L'Oreal is that they sell boxed hair coloring.

I can't believe the company brings in that much money.

by Anonymousreply 19December 29, 2023 5:55 PM

And she, for one, is worth it.

R18 is so ignorant

by Anonymousreply 21December 29, 2023 6:11 PM

R19 Eugène Schueller, the grandfather of Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, produced the first synthetic hair colorant in 1907. It was called L'Oreal. This essentially lead to the hair colouring that we use today. He was a educated as a pharmacist/chemist.

by Anonymousreply 22December 29, 2023 6:16 PM

Even though they're trying to hush it, word goes that Eugène Shueller was gay. I see some French newspapers are trying to allude to that, but it's still very cryptic and very much taboo. First, we're French and other people's secrets d'alcôve is not our business. Second the last thing you need as a strapped-for-cash newspaper/journalist is to incur the wrath of someone with pockets so deep they can ruin your business/career with what amounts to pennies for them.

by Anonymousreply 23December 29, 2023 6:46 PM

R19, you're not very well informed, are you? Per their website:

"Our 36 international brands are divided into four unique Divisions: Luxe, Consumer Products, Dermatological Beauty, and Professional Products. Our 36 international brands include Kiehl’s, Lancôme, Giorgio Armani Beauty, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, Ralph Lauren, Clarisonic, Maybelline New York, Essie, Kérastase, IT Cosmetics, Prada Beauty, Biotherm, Shu Uemura, Viktor&Rolf, Maison Martin Margiela, Urban Decay, Redken, Vichy, La Roche-Posay, Diesel, Garnier, L’Oréal Paris, and more."

Sales in 2022 - $39 billion.

by Anonymousreply 24December 29, 2023 6:50 PM

Can you imagine being born into that kind of money? I did watch the documentary on them. Very interesting.

The new feudalism is so woke

by Anonymousreply 30December 29, 2023 9:46 PM

European wealth is a lot of families like this. Maybe not to this scale, but definitely lasting wealth that sometimes dates from the beginning of the industrial era.

by Anonymousreply 31December 29, 2023 9:58 PM

R23 You are say that Eugène Shueller being gay would be too embarrassing when the guy was a known nazi sympathizer and supporter? Not to mention that André Bettencourt (Liliane's husband and Françoise's father) is widely presumed to have been at least bisexual. Somehow I doubt the current Bettencourt-Meyers could care less. I wouldn't be surprised if the very private, unmarried and good looking Jean-Victor Meyers was gay and they might be somewhat embarrassed about that. His nazi great-grandfather, Eugène Schueller, is basically a historical figure at this point.

by Anonymousreply 32December 29, 2023 9:58 PM

No sorry, replace Eugene Shueller by André Bettencourt in everything I've written. I got my names mixed up and should really be tested for beta-amyloid or something...

by Anonymousreply 33December 29, 2023 10:05 PM

And yet her hair looks like shit.

by Anonymousreply 34December 29, 2023 10:20 PM

R34 has a noticeable learning disability

by Anonymousreply 35December 29, 2023 11:49 PM

[quote]She converted to Judaism and raised both sons Jewish (circumcised and Bar Mitzvahed)

R10, how do you know she had her sons circumcised? Did you have sex with them?

by Anonymousreply 36December 30, 2023 7:31 AM

The faggot con man got over a billion dollars out of the old cunt--bravo!

by Anonymousreply 37December 30, 2023 7:40 AM

R18 made me snort.

I would like this woman to give me a chunk of her money and Shu Uemura products for life. She doesn’t need it and in exchange I would give her hair advice, though I am not a hairdresser.

by Anonymousreply 38December 30, 2023 7:47 AM

R36 "Jean-Victor Meyers, 25, born into a family of successful businesspeople, was circumcised under rabbinical supervision and barmitzvah in 2000 at the Paris-MJLF Reform synagogue."

It would be highly unusual for a French Jew in his late 30s to be uncircumcised. I wish I could say that I had first hand experience, but I'm afraid not.

Thanks for the info, R39.

President Sarkozy's son, Jean, married a Jewish girl and there are articles saying their son was circumcised, as well.

by Anonymousreply 40December 30, 2023 8:16 AM

Her son is hot.

The other son, Nicholas, while shorter than Jean-Victor, is way cuter IMO.

R43 I believe one of Nicolas Sarkozy's grandfather's was Jewish as well. I know he has some Jewish heritage.
