Inside the New Orleans–Inspired LA Home of Designing Women’s Annie Potts

The actor makes her own design rules, naturally, in a house full of joyful treasures and stories.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it’s unsurprising that the star of the beloved ’80s and ’90s sitcom Designing Women has an affinity for interior design. After having renovated various homes over the decades, actor Annie Potts was up for the particular task of transforming a property in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles and infusing it with New Orleans–inspired soul.

She's been a regular on "Young Sheldon" for the past five years, but she's still "Designing Women's Annie Potts?"

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2023 6:13 PM

It's not at all my style, but it's very interesting. I guess that's not high praise. I think it's so far from what I like that I'm afraid to say I actually kinda like it though I couldn't live there.

And I love Annie Potts, so I'm guessing that influences what I think.

Love her.

Love the house.

Especially jealous of that neon sign above the pool.

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2023 6:20 PM

It's not my taste but it feels like her and has personality so I think it's great. For her. She's terrific.

by Anonymousreply 4December 20, 2023 6:37 PM

R1 Or perhaps the headline writer/magazine editor thought that an article about interior design would make for a clever callback to....a show with "design" in its title?

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2023 6:40 PM

That neighborhood, Toluca Lake, looks beautiful. It must be a very desirable place to live in Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2023 7:20 PM

Not my style, but who doesn't love Annie Potts?!!

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2023 7:29 PM

DollfaceMeemaw Thread — despite the dirty birds in the bathroom and no dry-erase boards.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2023 7:44 PM

Not the colors I would choose and I don’t like tables pushed into corners, especially an Eero Saarinen. The exterior looks very nice and the setting is glorious.

Who would have thunk that Annie and Jean Smart would end up being the wealthiest and most successful of the DW cast. Delta and Dixie were the big stars of the show, yet their lives and careers ended tragically.

by Anonymousreply 10December 20, 2023 7:55 PM

She is, every inch of her, complete class. There must have been no genes left the day she was conceived, because she got 'em all.

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2023 7:56 PM

I wonder if she fucked Mark Hamill when they made Corvette Summer together. I certainly would have.

It is a beautiful neighborhood. Amelia Earhart's former home is in Toluca Lake.

And Bob Hope, as well as tons of other celebs over the years.

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2023 8:18 PM

How's that decor "New Orleans-inspired"? To me it looks like most metropolitan homes nowadays. Could be anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2023 8:24 PM

Dixie's life wasn't exactly tragic. Ended too soon, sure. But not quite the mess that DB's life became.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2023 8:57 PM

Potts what an awful last name

by Anonymousreply 17December 20, 2023 9:33 PM

R15 I agree.

"She's been a regular on "Young Sheldon" for the past five years, but she's still "Designing Women's Annie Potts?"

In the same way Brando will always be referred to as 'The Godfather star'.

I like most of it, but that hot pink couch is the exception.

by Anonymousreply 20December 29, 2023 12:48 AM

As others have said, it’s not my style, but it is very interesting and Annie is a peach, so good for her.

My favorite Annie Potts video:

I like it but I wouldn’t think orange is the New Orleans color. I thought fancy cast iron grillwork was.

by Anonymousreply 22December 29, 2023 12:59 AM

I love the pool area the best. That would be lovely to have.

The inside is too busy for me. Too many prints. But, I could live there!

by Anonymousreply 23December 29, 2023 1:00 AM

No “Tasteful Friends”?

by Anonymousreply 24December 29, 2023 1:06 AM

Love the painting above her bed.

by Anonymousreply 25December 29, 2023 1:09 AM

R6 It’s a cute area but everything around it is a shithole. That happens a lot in LA.

Annie and Jean may be the wealthiest, but I'm the BIGGEST!

What? is this a saying or are you trying to make an extra chromosome joke?

by Anonymousreply 28December 29, 2023 3:48 AM

Must be a joke. She’s ok but not queen of everything.

by Anonymousreply 29December 29, 2023 3:52 AM

I like it but I don’t see anything whatsoever that reminds me of New Orleans. Where I was born and raised. I get using a New Orleans designer, but that’s not a New Orleans design at all.

Delta at least lived in NOLA (may still, I have no idea).

by Anonymousreply 30December 29, 2023 4:56 AM

Looks like a whore house to me. Why else would you need that many bedrooms?

by Anonymousreply 31December 29, 2023 8:20 AM

The exterior courtyard with the balconies is reminiscent of Bourbon Street, I guess. The interior is horrid.
