“Elsbeth” from The Good Wife & The Good Fight now has her own show

And I think it looks really good! A dark comedy vibe? I’m down.

I’ve had sufficient- of the divine Carrie Preston as this character and those hack showrunners.

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2023 7:41 AM

Can't watch the trailer in my region, but I've always thought she only worked in (really) small doses and found her grating when she started featuring more on TGF, so I winced when I heard this show was announced.

Much like with all clown roles, this is going to be very Marmite-y.

by Anonymousreply 2December 20, 2023 7:42 AM

R2 I loved her and felt she was the best character.

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2023 8:00 AM

I did too... when she popped in here and there. As soon as her role was expanded for a while, she immediately became too much for me.

by Anonymousreply 4December 20, 2023 8:09 AM

I like her. Her character is sort of like a female Monk. This is refreshing. So tired of seeing sociopathic antiheroes.

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2023 8:43 AM

Love her. She is a one woman Rube Goldberg machine.

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2023 8:54 AM

Lemme guess, kooky with a touch of aspie?

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2023 9:03 AM

Trailer came out in May and the first episode is in February, what's up with that?

Stephen Moyer in a bit part, not even listed among the main cast on the IMDb page is also strange. Well, him working again just in general is strange. Which reminds me, I think we're gonna need an Anna Paquin WHET thread soon.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2023 9:07 AM

Anna Paquin had a show called Flack for a couple of seasons, and was in a good Peacock miniseries last year called A Friend of the Family with Colin Hanks and Jake Lacy.

by Anonymousreply 9December 20, 2023 10:48 AM

R8 no. We don’t. She was on tv not long ago.

Stephen Moyer is probably just a guest star.

R8 it was postponed because of the strikes. It’s like you forgot that situation lasted months and got tons of shows and movies postponed or cancelled

by Anonymousreply 10December 20, 2023 1:45 PM

On shows that no one watched.

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2023 1:47 PM

Oh, the irony of a poster who makes fully a third of all DL threads saying a WHET thread isn't needed.

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2023 1:49 PM

R11 that makes no sense. No actors were allowed to work throughout the strike except those who were not under SAG (mostly foreign actors) or unless they got the green light to work, which were very few.

Let me guess, you didn’t understand what was going on during the strikes? You never understand the most basic of things so it wouldn’t shock me.

by Anonymousreply 13December 20, 2023 2:09 PM

R12 Muriel knows who is making all the threads, and it isn’t me. ☕️ maybe you should sit in silence. Time to grow up and gain some self awareness.

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2023 2:10 PM

Agree: She was refreshing in small doses, especially on the much more serious The Good Wife. The Good Fight went completely off the rails, which was odd because with Christine Baranski they could have turned it into an insanely strong show.

But the Kings (the writers couple) can only carry the same concept for so long, before veering into Ryan Murphy territory.

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2023 2:12 PM

She’s great in big doses too

by Anonymousreply 16December 21, 2023 12:56 AM

R8, the trailer was created for the network to start selling ad time for their fall schedule.

Then you May have heard something about a strike and how things are just now going back into production. The show hadn’t started filming before the strikes.

by Anonymousreply 17December 21, 2023 1:36 AM

I like her and her hubby. Speaking of her hubby is “Evil” coming back? Really interesting show.

by Anonymousreply 18December 21, 2023 1:41 AM

I am excited for this one.

by Anonymousreply 19January 26, 2024 9:16 PM

A modern Miss Marple.

When does it premier?

by Anonymousreply 20January 27, 2024 9:23 PM

February 29th r20. It’s 10 episodes.

by Anonymousreply 21January 27, 2024 9:26 PM

I hate that Cable/streamers have taken to make everything a 10 episode limited series.

Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 22January 27, 2024 11:05 PM

I, too miss a 20+ episode season.

by Anonymousreply 23January 28, 2024 12:39 AM

R23 especially with “sitcoms”. The Bear is like eight 25-30 minute episodes. That is not a season.

by Anonymousreply 24January 28, 2024 12:42 AM

R20, it’s premiere.

by Anonymousreply 25January 28, 2024 12:52 AM

She was such a needed ray of light in The Holdovers.

by Anonymousreply 26January 28, 2024 3:54 AM

So true, r26.

by Anonymousreply 27January 28, 2024 6:02 AM

I stay in the same hotel every time I go to NYC, and I’ve seen her and her husband, together and separately, a few times. They must live in the area.

by Anonymousreply 28January 28, 2024 8:26 AM

[quote]The Bear is like eight 25-30 minute episodes. That is not a season.

I have sufficient.

I’m excited to watch. Loved her on the shows.

by Anonymousreply 31February 23, 2024 3:27 PM

Oh no I just started a thread on how awful it looks and this thread came to the top.

Hi, Carrie, didn't know you posted here.

by Anonymousreply 32February 23, 2024 3:30 PM

r32 I bitched about her character and the show upthread, but was overruled by other posters. Guess the gays love Elsbeth!

by Anonymousreply 33February 23, 2024 3:34 PM

Premieres tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 34February 28, 2024 11:32 PM

A little bit of this goes a long, long way.

by Anonymousreply 35March 2, 2024 2:06 AM

Wasn't very good. I liked Alan Cummings in his NYPD adjunct better.

by Anonymousreply 36March 2, 2024 9:38 PM

[quote] I liked Alan Cummings

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 37March 2, 2024 9:41 PM

Danny Mastrogiorgio (Det. Smullen) was born to play Richard Nixon.

by Anonymousreply 38March 2, 2024 9:45 PM

Was Stephen Moyer sort of stunt casting since Carrie Preston was a regular on "True Blood?"

by Anonymousreply 39March 2, 2024 9:51 PM

r37, it was an autocorrect, I always think I am wrong.

by Anonymousreply 40March 2, 2024 11:00 PM

Elsbeth's style of detecting resembles Columbo's, I think--toying with the suspect and annoying them until they're trapped. Nothing groundbreaking but a pleasant diversion.

This would have been a perfect show for Jack Cassidy, my favorite special guest star villain.

In the age of streaming, is there an actor that always pops up as the baddy in comedies, dramas, dramedies?

by Anonymousreply 42March 3, 2024 1:45 AM

I liked the show. It's entertaining to watch how she pieces the cases together. I think it has promise if the audience doesn't get tired of her.

by Anonymousreply 43March 4, 2024 8:27 PM

They got tired of Columbo and he was a Detective.

by Anonymousreply 44March 4, 2024 11:47 PM

Never liked Carrie Preston. She’s one of those tic-y stage actresses.

by Anonymousreply 45March 5, 2024 8:21 AM

Mary Tyler Murder!

by Anonymousreply 46April 7, 2024 2:14 AM

It’s one of those shows I can watch if I have to. At first I thought it was going to be a Philomena Cunk clone.

by Anonymousreply 47April 7, 2024 2:49 AM

Linda Lavin got murdered. What's not to like?

by Anonymousreply 48April 7, 2024 3:29 AM

Does Linda Lavin get to sing the theme song?

"Used to be autistic... used to be shy...

Funniest thing the saddest part

Was Elsbeth never knew why..."
