I am 19 and understand that if I post something to social media, even on a private page or private group, that it is now no longer private. Most of my peers truly do not seem to understand this or choose to ignore it and then cry when they face consequences for their choices. My parents always told me if it is something you do not want us as your parents to see or your teachers or siblings or bosses etc. never post it to the internet, whether a photo or video or opinion. Just keep it to yourself. I’m thankful they taught me that from a young age because I see so many of my peers not seem to grasp that the minute they posted it to social media it is now no longer private.

We went through social media training at work a few years ago, and the trainer said it simply and perfectly: "Don't put anything on social media that you wouldn't feel comfortable about seeing on the front page of a newspaper."
