Mayim Bialik FIRED from Jeopardy in 2024!

Mayim Bialik has faced her final “Jeopardy!” Two years after stepping in as a permanent host for the beloved game show following the death of its long-running emcee Alex Trebek, Bialik is exiting her regular role on the series. In a statement posted to Instagram on Friday afternoon, Bialik shared that producer Sony Pictures Television had informed her that she will no longer have hosting duties on the series beginning in 2024.

“As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some ‘Jeopardy!’ news. Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of ‘Jeopardy!'” Bialik wrote in the post. “I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a pat of the ‘Jeopardy!’ family.”

“For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you,” Bialik’s statement concludes.

A spokesperson for the series at Sony released the following statement to Variety later in the afternoon: “Mayim Bialik has announced she will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of ‘Jeopardy!’. We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated ‘Jeopardy!’. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to ‘Jeopardy!’, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials.”

Following Trebek’s death in November 2020, Bialik was one of several rotating celebrity guest hosts to join the series in the following year. After standing executive producer Mike Richards had negotiated a contract to take over as permanent host of “Jeopardy!,” a subsequent unraveling of scandals quickly led to his ousting from the program.

Bialik took over as a guest host during the turbulent period, soon after becoming a permanent host, alternating duties with Ken Jennings, who first showed his “Jeopardy!” mastery as a contestant in 2003 and has become the highest-earning American game show contestant in history through his return trips to the series.

Only Jennings has been hosting as of this fall’s Season 40. In August, Variety reported that Bialik had declined to host the second season of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” in observance of the then-ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Both Bialik and Jennings earned Emmy Award nominations for outstanding host of a game show in this year’s inaugural edition of the category. Steve Harvey, Pat Sajak and Keke Palmer also received nods. A winner will be announced at the strike-delayed Emmy Awards in January.

Maybe she can do a re-boot of Blossom now.

She was slow and made the show lag.

It's my fault, I just KNOW it!

[quote] Jeopardy! Reveals Why Mayim Bialik Was Dropped as Host — Read Statement

Mayim Bialik was let go as Jeopardy! host because Sony wanted to “maintain continuity for our viewers.”

Hours after Bialik announced her ouster on social media, the studio behind the iconic game show released the following statement: “We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials.”

Bialik’s Instagram post also specifically noted that she was relieved of her job on the syndicated iteration of the show, opening the door to the possibility of her returning to helm one of ABC’s myriad primetime iterations.

“As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news,” Bialik’s Friday evening post began. “Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy! I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.”

Bialik had been MIA from Jeopardy! since last May, when she abruptly bowed out of Season 39’s final weeks in a public display of solidarity with the show’s striking writers, leading Jennings to step in and close out the season.

As the Big Bang Theory vet’s absence dragged on through the summer, questions began to swirl around her future with the franchise. The speculation intensified on Aug. 18 when Jeopardy! released via its official social handles a new poster celebrating the syndicated show’s 39th season that featured Jennings but not Bialik. At the time, Sony declined to comment on the decision to exclude Bialik from the now-deleted artwork. Days later, ABC announced Jennings as the new primary host of primetime offshoot Celebrity Jeopardy!, replacing Bialik.

It was in Summer 2022 that Bialik was officially installed as co-host of Jeopardy!‘s syndicated version alongside Jennings. The pair’s ascension came after a chaotic year that saw the duo temporarily filling the void left by the late Alex Trebek’s original, short-lived successor, Mike Richards. The duo were expected to continue sharing emcee duties for the current 40th season.

Who was beaten with the ugly stick?

Mayam Bialik

So this is all about the strike, right?

She wouldn't cross the picket line, so Jeopardy fired her.

People should boycott Jeopardy, if that's the case.

They're anti-union.

by Anonymousreply 9December 16, 2023 3:52 AM

Doubtful, R9. If she was pulling in ratings, they would have kept her, plain and simple.

by Anonymousreply 10December 16, 2023 3:55 AM

I like her a lot, but she was a terrible host. That weird hitch thing she did was incredibly annoying.

Ken is a bit of a natural (which actually surprised me). He's good off the cuff in a dorky way - which feels appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 11December 16, 2023 3:57 AM

What will she do now?

by Anonymousreply 12December 16, 2023 4:39 AM

I can't imagine that Ken Jennings is a better host than a seasoned actress like Mayim Bialik.

by Anonymousreply 13December 16, 2023 5:23 AM

Jennings is unwatchable. He looks and acts like a grocery store bagger.

by Anonymousreply 14December 16, 2023 5:45 AM

I hope this is a joke. Otherwise, what a stupid thing to say. Did you watch the show?

by Anonymousreply 15December 16, 2023 5:55 AM

Bialik has been subpar as a host. She can’t think on her feet, isn’t funny, and has no feel for the flow of the game. Basically, the opposite of Ken Jennings, who was specifically groomed by Trebek to succeed him, a fact which was subverted by Mike Richard’s scheming. It took three years longer than it should have, but at last the correct result has been arrived at.

by Anonymousreply 16December 16, 2023 7:55 AM

R13 being a host is different than being an actress. She's remarkably stiff and awkward. And I really like her.

by Anonymousreply 17December 16, 2023 7:58 AM

Ken has a nicer dick!

by Anonymousreply 18December 16, 2023 8:26 AM

Ken has the personality of a slug,

by Anonymousreply 19December 16, 2023 9:41 AM

Ken is fine. He doesn't have Alex's voice or wit, but he understands the game and keeps it moving. Mayim was a bore who didn't keep the focus on the game.

by Anonymousreply 20December 16, 2023 9:44 AM

They're replacing her with George Santos.

by Anonymousreply 21December 16, 2023 12:19 PM

That would actually be amusing, R21.

He would make a good host because he's lively, animated and a good speaker.

by Anonymousreply 22December 16, 2023 1:06 PM

Ken Jennings is a flawless host and the right one to take over for Alex. She was awkward.

by Anonymousreply 23December 16, 2023 1:24 PM

so fucking happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 24December 16, 2023 3:59 PM

she was trying too hard and her ugly outfits distracted me from enjoying the show

by Anonymousreply 25December 16, 2023 3:59 PM

So she’s one of those American Jews who’s very progressive on all causes — except the cause of people who are in the way of what she wants for her people.

[quote]He doesn't have Alex's voice or wit, but he understands the game and keeps it moving

Alex hosted the show for 100 years, plus he was already a seasoned gameshow host before he got the Jeopardy gig. Give Ken some time to develop, he'll get there.

by Anonymousreply 27December 16, 2023 4:27 PM

OP learn to search, you moron

by Anonymousreply 28December 16, 2023 4:39 PM

Don't blame OP. The other guy's thread title was May I'm Bialik..

by Anonymousreply 29December 16, 2023 5:06 PM

I AM Mayim Bialik.

by Anonymousreply 30December 16, 2023 6:10 PM

She's really, really rich, she'll survive.

by Anonymousreply 31December 18, 2023 4:22 PM

conan o brien would be my fantasy host. he's really sharp, he'd be great for the job.

by Anonymousreply 32December 18, 2023 4:24 PM

She lacks what Trebek had....an ability to come off as intelligent and warm simultaneously. Her interviews with contestants at the half-way point were stilted to the point it didn't seem like she gave a shit about what they were saying. Alex made everyone seem interesting.

I'm OK with Jennings, but I have to say, if there is one more tournament of whatever, it's going to drive me away.

Very much expecting a "Green-Eyed Second Place Finishers with a Limp Tournament Week" soon.

by Anonymousreply 33December 18, 2023 6:51 PM

Ken doesn’t come off as warm, either. He comes across as insincere and smug, like he’s laughing at the contestants in his head.

by Anonymousreply 34December 18, 2023 6:59 PM

I much prefer Ken! I'm so glad the horrible woman is gone!

by Anonymousreply 35December 18, 2023 7:07 PM

or...ewwwww girls!
