The Gays and Tennis Part 160 - The Short Off Season
I wish the off season were longer, from the US Open to the Australian Open with the exception of the year-end championships.
Named to the International Tennis Hall of Fame:
Leander Paes (doubles specialist, 18 mixed and men's doubles major titles), Vijay Amritraj (former player, commentator, promoter and father of nepo Tennis Channel commentator Prakash) Richard Evans (tennis writer).

Reasons to be cheerful, parts 1, 2, and 3.
Ever the true gentleman, and the most sporting player ever in the history of tennis (the numbers prove it!)—and above all never a sore loser—Djokovic congratulates Vagnozzi and Cahill for winning coach of the year by sarcastically asking what he needs to do for Ivanisevic to even be considered for coach of the year (win 4/4 GSs?).
Again, what a cunt.

He's really proving why he's never won that sportsmanship award, isn't he. I really found it very striking when I looked up the history of the awards because Nadal has won that one 5 times and Federer 13 times. It really stands out that Djokovic never has especially when you consider that it's their peers who vote for it.

Our Woobie: “When I look at the video now it is embarrassing, it looks very bad,” Rublev told us as he reflected on his ATP Finals meltdown against Carlos Alcaraz.
“For me, it is tough to see those things as well, but everyone fails sometimes. That was my week when I couldn’t manage my emotions and I couldn’t manage the stress that I was having.
“There are many things in life that are stressing us out and make us very angry. You can practise how to be calm when you want to explode everything. Then my coach has the psychology lessons.
“This is a big part of the game. For sure, it is as important as improving my weaknesses on the court and it is something I need to work on.”

I'm so disappointed with Alcaraz. I had so many expectations for him this year as I really like him, both as a human and as a player. Too bad he had a really bad second half of the season, meanwhile Sinner is doing great. I would not be surprised if he ended 2024 with zero slams, as the other players have figured out how to beat him now. I think RG is his best chance, considering most top players suck on the surface, the exceptions are NoVaxx and Zverev.

Do you think something is going on between Alcaraz and Ferrero? They seem very close, and it seems closer than a father/son type of relationship. I know Ferrero is married with kids and Alcaraz is straight too. But on the other hand they're Spanish. They're all somewhat bi. Spain has one of the biggest gay populations in Europe.

Osaka family drama. Mari (Naomi's sister) posted on social media that she wants their father to 'suck a huge black dick'.
Also a post about how she will kill him if he doesn't stop harassing their mother. Mess.
[quote]I want you to know how disappointed and disgusted I am in you, as a father and human being in general. You have failed in every way imaginable. You have abused me since I was young and continue to harass my mother. You continue to emotionally abuse her and trespass into our home when you have your own. I’m making this public knowledge because you are a coward who hides behind his physical ability to beat me down and our refusal to call to cops on you. This is it, I’m really done with you and the next time I see your face I am calling the police. Consider this a threat. The way you have hurt me and our family honestly I wont regret it if they kill you so yea come back to the house and threaten to beat me up again. I will fight back and I will fight for both of us. I will kill you unless you kill me first by bringing a gun like the coward you are. So go ahead let’s see what type of man you really are even though I’ve already known since birth I’m the daughter to the devil. God help me when he comes again.

Stoked to see Demon beat Ratface to take Australia a match away from the United Cup Final, and more importantly into the ATP Top 10 for the first time.
He's the first Australian to achieve this feat since Lleyton Hewitt. Even sweeter that Demon's done it, and not the odious Kyrgios!

Also a big fan of De Minaur ever since his verbal takedown of Djokovic during the Novaxx debacle of AO '22.
Continued puzzlement over the lust for Rune, legs or not. To me he's a cross between Chuckie and Kewpie, but to each his own.

You mean Wimbledon winner Rybakina who has the best serve on the women's tour and groundstrokes like Davenport's? When she's 'on' she's unbeatable. Of course, her issue is being inconsistent, like too many of these players.

After both lost in the 2nd round of their 'comeback' tournaments, Emma Raducanu has got herself yet another new coach while Osaka has withdrawn from an exhibition (with Raducanu too).
The Daily Beast has an article with some of the revelations in Ben Rothenberg's new book. Especially - Osaka fired Bajin because he was dating a much lower ranked player whom he kept trying to get her to practice with and he lied about it. (TF thinks the player is Sofya Zhuk.) And what Serena Williams's reaction was behind the scenes when she lost to Osaka.
[quote]When Naomi again beat Serena in the finals at the U.S. Open—a match best remembered by Serena’s on-court outburst against the umpire—she at first accepted the silver platter given to the runner-up during the trophy ceremony. “But once she was behind closed doors, Serena made her feelings about the relic of her loss clear, dumping the platter into a trash can in the locker room,” Rothenberg writes. “As Serena took a shower, a locker room attendant pulled the platter out of the trash and set it neatly on a bench near Serena’s locker. Spotting the platter’s unwelcome resurrection when she returned, Serena was incensed. So there could be no misunderstanding of her wishes again, Serena announced her disdain for the token of her loss for everyone in the locker room to hear: ‘I. Don’t. Play. For. Second. Place,’ Serena said, spiking the platter away once more.”

The AO men's draw looks a lot more Alcaraz-friendly than it does Djokovic-friendly, I think. To get to the final, Djokovic might have to face Shelton in Round 4 (not really that much of a headache), but then Sinner in the semis if all goes to plan. Except for mayby Zverev and Medvedev (more dangerous, I admit, than Zverev), Alcaraz doesn't really have much to have to conquer. In other words, I find it hard NOT to see Alcaraz in the final, and can't quite see Djokovic getting there, especially if he finds an in-form Sinner in the semis.

R228 LMAO, how?! Alcaraz has Bublik in R3, Paul/Struff in R4 (Paul is a horrible matchup for Alcaraz), Zverev in QF and Medvedev (or Rune) in SF. The only good news is that he avoided Sinner. All the others will be very hard to beat. I could actually see a R4 exit here, heck, even R3 if Bublik is on fire.

The betting odds give Garcia-Osaka a 50-50 chance. That's definitely the one I'm psyched to see what happens. I don't think Kenin has any chance, she's woeful these days. Swiatek could meet Collins/Kerber in the 2nd round, and also has Svitolina (beat her at Wimbledon) and Peppa (beat her at the US plus every other time they've played) in her quarter. She has the toughest draw of the top 4. Gauff has the easiest draw imo, then Sabalenka.

R228 I don't mean to pile on, but how much do you really know about tennis? Yes, Novak has the a tough semi if he faces Sinner, but that's it. That's all he has to worry about. And Sinner is notoriously iffy in Slams.
Carlos has a MUCH tougher draw with Paul, Zverev and Med. Much tougher.

Kasatkina gets TWO walkovers into the final of the Adelaide International vs. Peppa. I would definitely pick Peppa to win, Kasatkina looks a bit out of shape while Peppa is on it! The lines, to be specific!
Rybakina tanked her match and Pegula claimed an illness. Ok, maybe both are genuine but I can't understand people on TF not understanding why they played the Adelaide International while also thinking that they did that on purpose - anyone who has read tennis books about the tour knows that top players often get paid an extra fee to play a tournament which has to be motivation to show up. (I'm sure that Pegula doesn't need it but she may have wanted to play a couple of matches but also not too much before the AO.)

Yeah but I wonder what their true reasoning was. I've noticed that the lead-up tournaments in Australia have had near capacity attendance so I wonder if it's really a cash grab. Prizmic put up a good fight against Djokovic. He didn't play like a qualifier and, at just 18, he'll be someone to watch in the future. Also, he's easy on the eyes, especially with those tight short shorts.

by Anonymous | reply 392 | January 17, 2024 5:11 AM

Yeah, pay for a month for ESPN+ for the Slams that ESPN broadcasts. Then you can watch any match you want. The Australian Open coverage on ESPN proper is the studio show that's run for everyone with ESPN via cable. And since they can only show one match at time, you're at their mercy. They'll give updates from other courts, but they often won't feature the match you want to watch. Later rounds, it's a little more straight forward as there's fewer matches to choose from and fewer matches going on at the same time.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | January 17, 2024 5:12 AM

It's really worth it if you're a tennis fan. You can even bounce around matches or just stay on one. I will stroke to Daddy's strokes. He's actually playing well today. He also looks hot to me in this tournament. He's a bit lean but I love his broad wide shoulders.

Peppa is playing Ajla Tomljanovic tomorrow. Remember when they played at Wimbledon? Ajla accused Peppa of faking an injury after losing 7 games in a row and Peppa in turn told Ajla that she was 'the worst player on the tour' - amongst other things. The tension was so thick that I kept thinking that they really wanted to jump on each other and have a catfight for real. I'm guessing they will behave this time though. Sad face.

R409 Doesn't matter. NoVaxx will still win, whether it's in 4 or 5. I will say though: it's nice to see him starting to lose sets even if he ends up winning those matches. It means he isn't untouchable anymore. It means maybe he is starting to finally feel his age, and will struggle more and more going forward. It wasn't too long ago he never lost a set during a slam. That's not the case anymore.

During all Grand Slam events when a native of that country plays, regardless of how lowly the player is , the home crowd goes all out supporting that player . [quote]Why?
Vandeweghe and Collins both have reputations for being difficult. CoCo's career was never going anywhere so it didn't hamper her as much, but it's caused Collins to be overlooked by sponsors despite her looks and talent.
A critical difference between the two, since it's rare for Vandeweghe to be mentioned without her MAGA status coming up, is that Collins previously used a Trump-themed toilet brush.

The day and night crowds at the U.S. Open are totally different during the early rounds, and the tournament's atmosphere becomes much more like the early-round night matches as it gets deeper into the second week.
The day crowds are the people who know tennis. The night crowds are dumb, drunk New Yorkers who don't know anything about tennis and go crazy whenever an American makes it past the fourth round (a rarity nowadays).

The Rybakina v. Blinkova match was such tense drama, with numerous mini swings of momentum. The tennis ranged from some sublime shot making to the ugliest shanks and untimely double faults. Blinkova eventually won in an extended third-set tiebreaker, and by the end I was exhausted watching it.

Don't bother about R502, R499. He throws the same shit at anyone who dares to criticize his boy Rune.
by Anonymous | reply 505 | January 18, 2024 1:49 PM
|
R505, he's not my boy! I just hate delicate flowers because they make the rest of us look so fucking delicate. FURTHER, he's really NOT a homophobe, and don't trot out that challenger video as proof, not because he was younger, but because players often chastise themselves in the heat of battle. I did. Others do. It happens in the heat of competition. Now, if you're able to produce some legit quote whereby he says some MAGA shit or advocates or aligns himself with some anti-gay agendas, then, I promise you I'll stand corrected at that point.
As for his court conduct, I'm not a fan, and he can be a little bitch because of it. He's no Carlos. That's a fair criticism. I often root for his opponents.
Unitl then, stop being such a victim! I'm not your tormentor--you are.

R507, I'm surprised we agree on something. We're not going to have dinner anytime soon, I'm sure, but to be clear, I never advocated most of his court behavior. I hope he mellows more into the Agassi mode. Some players, like Nastase and Connors, remain my least favorites because I never bought their false humility, Connors mainly.
I know there's footage out there of Connors calling himself or Lendl or someone a faggot--something like that. I don't want to dredge it up on youtube because I'll get a bunch of Connors clips. I think he is very good friends with Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss. Aside from his shitty outing of Chris Evert's abortion, I don't detest Connors, and I highly doubt he really has any anti-gay sentiment these days. BJK usually wises folks up. Rune...same heat of battle stuff, though Connors was much more seasoned. Again, until there's real evidence of Rune and MAGA or some anti-gay views from a credible source, it serves nobody to be so easily offended. I mean, "homophobe" is no better than "delicate daisy."
So, for now, I think Rune is a great looking young guy, including the legz. I tend to not like a lot of his court demeanor and because of that, I often root for the opponent. IF he shows himself to be truly anti-gay, I'm wrong, I'll admit it on here (I mean, why wouldn't I), and go on with life.

Grigor was a beautiful young man but he is also turning into a really handsome man too. He has been looking so hot lately. When I saw him at Indian Wells last year I was blown away by how much thicker he looked than he does on television. He is very tall and lean but but quite toned and thick. He retired the match I watched but he was driving me crazy in light shorts where I could see his dark man panties directly in front of me. I jerked off intensely when i got back to the hotel just thinking about it.

My only nit about Andreevna is she has that annoying habit of yelling her version of “Come On” and fist pumping after every point she wins - which ok fine - but not when your opponent makes an error. Bad manners imo. I blame Sharapova for starting this whole self-pumping bs.
