They are inexpensive ($12 at my local store) and I thought it would be good for my diet because I can control the salt and butter
Anyone use one of these microwave popcorn poppers?

I wouldn't recommend buying - I ended up throwing away.
For my microwave (and it was new), the cook was off and the popcorn in the middle ended up burning - tried a handful of times. Maybe it would work if you adjust the temp but I didn't want to go through the process of trial and error.

I use an old fashioned hot air popper. I think it produces the best result without any oil and then I add what seasoning I want, including sometimes fats such as butter or cheese.

I replaced with an air popper.

I use a silicone bowl, no problem.

Poppers? Where?

I bought one, used it a few times, then gave it to my brother. Not worth the hassle. The bags are easier.

^ bags are super unhealthy. Also, I like plain popcorn,

I find that the popcorn made int he microwave popcorn silicone thing tastes much better than the air popped. Air popped dries the f out of the popcorn.
And yes, the bags of popcorn for the microwave are horrible for you. Tons of added shit that no one should be consuming or breathing.

I have looked into some of the popcorn kernels out there, some of them are pricy and I wonder if they are better than the store brand kernels I bought for $3?

I just use a large pot & olive oil.

You can pop plain kernels in a paper lunch bag, it is quite easy, no gadgets required.

I love making stove-top popcorn, using coconut oil. Then I layer butter and salt. I'm trying to lose some weight, so maybe I'll try this.

Yes, we have one and have used it for years. Works great and is easy to clean. It doesn’t take up much space in a kitchen. Easy to store. We’ve tried many popcorn maker/gadgets and yes, many methods work. This one is the easiest and most convenient. Some require constant stirring, other require : lugging out an appliance, plugging it in, adding oil, prepping a bowl, and cleaning all the parts. The Whirl-a-pop (iirc) works well, but is bulky, requires cranking on the stove, and is a little annoying to clean.
The one you linked is perfect for dieting. I think you’ll use it more than any other method, imho. It’s also kind of cute.
