I just do.
It could be uneven in later years but when it had all engines going it was a thing of beauty....and hilarious, to boot, with the right amount of heart.

I tried watching it again. I don't know if it was me or not, but none of what I felt was funny the first time, was still funny; I don't think it holds up, but YMMV.
Even the performances - which were so outstanding - like Vanessa Williams - seemed flat.
I probably got too old, maybe.

I did a recent rewatch and loved it, though Season 3 went off the rails. Unfortunately by the time it got its mojo back it was cancelled.....but S1 and S2 are pretty perfect.

I remember Lohan trying to pronounce "Wilhelmina" was pretty funny. Also the episode when Hilda dreams her boyfriend was alive, was unforgettable. Also Marc and Becky. I liked when she sneered "Hola". I skipped lots of graduate evening seminars to watch that show!

I’ve also rewatched some of season one recently. I still loved all the characters, but I had forgotten that stupid running story about Faye Sommers, etc. that never worked as well as the family stuff and office interactions.

R2
You know, now that you mention it, I think I had a similar experience and Season 3 was the big disappointment and I stopped watching at that point.

Great, great show, probably the only non-sitcom TV show I've watched three times in total (I really don't do rewatches unless it's through reactions on YouTube). It was just so perfect – bitchy and witty and wholesome and delightful. Sad to think they can't recapture that sort of vibe these days anymore, just look at that horrible reimagining last year or this year. Can anyone remember the title of that, we made fun of it here on DL extensively, it had a nonbinary lead character. Was cancelled after one season after it crashed and burned.
Here's an NYT article about Ugly Betty coming to America from 2006. How times flies.

I miss it too, but not necessarily America Ferrera.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 13, 2023 4:11 PM |
America Ferrera is a horrible actress. And having to look at her Ozempic face in not one but two movies this year was nauseating.

It was one of the shows affected by a writer’s strike. I don’t think it ever recovered.

The Barbie star recently voiced her enthusiasm for an Ugly Betty reunion, saying that she would be "thrilled" to reprise her Emmy-winning performance as the eternally plucky Betty Suarez.
"I think there has been like a deep desire there for a long time, because our Ugly Betty family is so close, and so we love each other so much," Ferrera told Entertainment Tonight. "I think we'd all come back in a heartbeat. You know, I don't know! It takes a lot of work to get a thing off the ground. Maybe we'll figure it out."
"Betty is my heart," she added. "I would be thrilled [to play her again]."

Of course you'd all like to come back. Except for Judith Light, not a one of you has anything going on.

I just recall wanting to have Eric Mabius and Daniel Eric Gold up my poop hole real bad. Eddie Cibrian, too.

Let's not forget Chris Gorham. Hottest nerd body reveal ever.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 13, 2023 5:17 PM |
r13 Damn, and I googled the cast as well to make sure I got all the hot guys. Yes, I wanted Chris Gorham inside me, quite deeply, most of all.

That was supposed to be a bit of an Alexis Carrington reveal and somehow it got changed to the secret woman in a veil was Daniel's brother transed into sister Alexis Meade.

I loved Chris Gorham's character but they beat that Betty/Henry thing to DEATH and by the time they got together no one cared.
I wanted Henry and Daniel to flip fuck.

I enjoyed the office politics and antics in the corporate environment that Betty had to navigate. As a bookkeeper, I was drawn to the Chris Gorham character (swoon). As others have mentioned, I created fantasy plotlines where Daniel would venture over and experience a gay hookup when trying to land another woman was too much effort. There was a line in one of the episodes where Daniel mentioned that he was attending a party hosted by Donald Trump and there would be 'a lot of women there'. This was pre-Trump presidency and then notion had no social stigma as it would today. Michael Urie, who played Marc the devoted assistant, was overlooked at Emmy time. He was strangely hot looking underneath the flamboyant persona.

Ashley Jensen (Christina) is the new lead on "Shetland." She was also the star of "Agatha Raisin."

America Ferrera is working the awards circuit, hoping (likely in vain) for an Oscar nom. She did just get a Critic's Choice nomination, though.

Michael Urie was quite cute at that age. And he reminded me of a college boyfriend - same hair, body, snark, and HUGE MOUTHWATERING college boy always hard COCK.

Seeing Rebecca Romjin, didn't she play a tranny when it saying tranny didn't get anyone cancelled?

Also hot daddy Alan Dale.

There were just so many well done characters. I initially hated Hilda but I loved her SO much by the time the show ended. She landed two hot dudes, for sure.
Justin was great - his coming out was beautifully done.
Betty and Hilda's dad was kinda low key hot in his own way.
And Wilhelmina was Vanessa's best role, period, hands down. It fit her like a glove.

And oh yeah, Marc and Amanda were so fun. The Karen and Jack of this show. Hysterically funny, especially Amanda.

I cannot stand how the actress hitched her wagon so hard to the whole inclusion explosion. I rarely heard the stupid bitch being so outspoken about representation and diversity when she was one of a few Latina actresses working and she was basically enjoying feeling special. Then all of a sudden she starts talking about trailblazing and breaking barriers. Disingenuous cunt! She never thought to do all that when she was one of the few with the opportunity. Those types really irk me. As loathsome as JLo is, she always led with her Latin roots and didn't come off like some over the summer social justice warrior like this dumb bitch.
