Shriners Hospital for Children Christmas ad

I haven't seen a new TV spot this year. Did they run out of "adowable" bwankets for donors? Did the powers-that-be finally figure out that Alec is 50 and kick him to the curb? Was Kaleb killed in a cage match? I've got to know.

by Anonymousreply 56June 29, 2024 9:43 PM

I think St Jude’s upped their ante

by Anonymousreply 1December 13, 2023 9:50 AM

Ricky Gervais needs to critique this.

by Anonymousreply 2December 13, 2023 10:26 AM

I think Alec got mesothelioma.

by Anonymousreply 3December 13, 2023 1:17 PM

They've got a 30-minute infomercial out this season, hosted by Alec & Kaleb! I was so excited, then quickly bored. They must remember that the essence of their brand is that they are upbeat little showpeople. St. Jude must be raking in more dough, because the Shriner's infomercial concentrates on the children's maladies. It's a drag.

by Anonymousreply 4December 13, 2023 2:54 PM

Ugh little defectives. If they can afford slick ads they don't need me.

by Anonymousreply 5December 13, 2023 3:34 PM

There are more economic ways to deal with a sub-par child.

by Anonymousreply 6December 13, 2023 3:46 PM

Alec is an undergraduate at Northwestern—he must be a junior or senior by now.

by Anonymousreply 7December 13, 2023 3:51 PM

Shriners has the I'll Be Home for Christmas commercials which I'm tired of.

by Anonymousreply 8December 13, 2023 3:57 PM

Does NO ONE in the media EVER question the absolute saturation of advertising and mailings this place does vs their constant claim to need money?

They're like fucking PBS. If you've got so many and so much resources that you can saturate the airwaves and mailboxes so much that you begin turning people off your brand, you clearly don't need the money. They should both be boycotted for that alone.

by Anonymousreply 9December 13, 2023 4:15 PM

They got Trace Adkins shilling for them this year.

by Anonymousreply 10December 13, 2023 4:17 PM

Those commercials are just ... too much.

by Anonymousreply 11December 13, 2023 5:06 PM

The only hit to come out of an Alec show is Alec and that's ME baby remember?

by Anonymousreply 12December 13, 2023 5:35 PM

[quote]Alec is an undergraduate at Northwestern—he must be a junior or senior by now.

Is he on a football scholarship?

by Anonymousreply 13December 13, 2023 5:52 PM

R5, same for ASPCA and US Humane Society. Millions to spend on commercials. CEOs who make millions. Give to your local shelter, they really need the money.

by Anonymousreply 14December 13, 2023 5:59 PM

R9 In the industry, PBS Fund Raisers are known as "Beg-A-Thons." For $5.00 a month, you can sign-up for the cheapest way to get "Passport," access to previous programs.

by Anonymousreply 15December 13, 2023 6:06 PM

Is he, R7? I always thought he was....special.

by Anonymousreply 16December 13, 2023 6:11 PM

I just turned 80.... what's my price?

by Anonymousreply 17December 13, 2023 7:22 PM

Oh God. I saw it yesterday and it was the worst one yet. Auto tuned singing from the bottom of a barrel.

by Anonymousreply 18December 13, 2023 7:28 PM

OP, you better repent for saying negative things about the hospital and kids.

All those Children's Charity kids' voices are adult voice-over actors. Listen to how similar they are, always with a slight lisp.

by Anonymousreply 21December 22, 2023 9:21 PM

Shlight lishp.

by Anonymousreply 22December 22, 2023 9:26 PM

It wouldn't be Christmas without a DL thread on the Shriners "kids"

by Anonymousreply 23December 22, 2023 11:11 PM

I guess r20 proves that Rose at R13 was right!

by Anonymousreply 24December 22, 2023 11:22 PM

That kid in the St. Jude's ad just irritates me. You just can tell that he feels superior to everyone because he survived cancer and never lets anyone forget it.

by Anonymousreply 25December 23, 2023 12:34 AM

I looked him up online. Not only is he a student at my university alma mater (Northwestern), but he graduated from my high school AND elementary school! Kid’s STALKING me!

by Anonymousreply 26December 23, 2023 1:41 AM

He’s a bottom, right?

by Anonymousreply 27December 23, 2023 1:45 AM

R27, he doesn’t have to kneel to give a blow job unless Caweb in involved.

by Anonymousreply 28December 23, 2023 2:13 AM

"You're too short for that gesture, Kaleb. In fact, you're too short for most gestures."

"Pull up your adowable blankets. It's going to be a bumpy night."

"Kaleb, in all the years of our friendship, I have never let you go to the operating room alone. Now I must."

by Anonymousreply 29December 23, 2023 2:40 AM

Between the sick kids and the neglected animals, I'll be glad when Christmas is over! I send in contributions, stop torturing me.

by Anonymousreply 30December 23, 2023 2:42 AM

r30 You're part of the problem. Since you're donating, that means the ads are getting results so they'll keep airing them. Same goes for the morons who answer robocallers.

by Anonymousreply 31December 23, 2023 3:09 AM

[quote]Shriners has the I'll Be Home for Christmas commercials which I'm tired of.

Tiresome but at least it's only seasonal, R8

[quote]Between the sick kids and the neglected animals

I'm glad they stopped showing the SPCA ad with the Sarah McLachlan song playing in the background on a seemingly endless loop.

From the link below:

[quote]Alec Cabacungan (He/Him) is a junior at Northwestern University studying Journalism at the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications. After he graduates with his bachelor’s degree, Alec plans to pursue his dreams of being a sports broadcaster. He is also interested in pursuing a career in acting and philanthropy. In his free time, Alec enjoys watching new movies, playing/coaching wheelchair basketball, annoying his older sisters, beating his friends in video games and appearing in commercials for Shriners Children’s.

Well, Alec is looking less like Ted Cruz these days. How nice for him.

by Anonymousreply 33December 23, 2023 3:12 AM

R31 I admit I'm a softie. But not when it counts the most.

by Anonymousreply 34December 23, 2023 4:24 AM

As long as the McCormick commercial goes away, I won’t end up in a hospital for the nervously insane

by Anonymousreply 35December 25, 2023 8:15 PM

The animal ads, not including St. Jude's and Shriners, are scams. Over half the money they raise is used to raise more money and both the USHS and ASPCA park millions of dollars in off-shore accounts. Please give to local animal shelters.

Is Alec's name on that Jeffrey Epstein list that's about to be revealed?

by Anonymousreply 37December 25, 2023 8:40 PM

R32 I think Alec definitely has a future in sports bwoadcasting.

by Anonymousreply 38December 25, 2023 10:39 PM

I always see the little black kid and think he's a priest or a minister.

by Anonymousreply 39December 25, 2023 10:51 PM

I just saw a Shriners commercial and thought of this thread.

by Anonymousreply 40January 1, 2024 12:55 AM

This is the fourth straight year I've heard that woman's voice cracking under the words, "My miracle child has cancer."

by Anonymousreply 41January 1, 2024 1:04 AM

Did LaChaka's daughter, ug, hmm, ahh, you know...?

by Anonymousreply 42January 1, 2024 1:07 AM

Caleb is Eve to Alec’s Margo Channing.

by Anonymousreply 43January 1, 2024 1:10 AM

Marry me, r43

by Anonymousreply 44January 1, 2024 1:12 AM

Those St. Jude’s ads aren’t playing anymore. These kids in the ads are facing recurrences of cancer and dying.

And then Marlo’s tiny nose appears…

by Anonymousreply 45January 1, 2024 1:14 AM

R44, you may end up marrying multiple people. That’s been posted here for years.

by Anonymousreply 46January 1, 2024 1:14 AM

[quote] Did LaChaka's daughter, ug, hmm, ahh, you know...?

LaChaka? LaChaka Kahn?

by Anonymousreply 47January 1, 2024 1:15 AM

What happened to that Trace Adkins TV show with Sarandon? I thought it was god awful.

by Anonymousreply 48January 1, 2024 1:18 AM

R43. Then is the girl with the prosthetic Mrs. Lloyd (Karen) Richards?

by Anonymousreply 49January 1, 2024 2:13 AM

Fasten your wheelchair restraints, it’s going to be a bumpy night!

by Anonymousreply 50January 1, 2024 3:49 AM

is that the one with the elmer fudd ass kid

Holy shit! They're arming those kids.

That wheelchair-bound little girl shouted"Take your shot!" as she did just that with her regulation size bow and arrow. Shot a bulls eye, too.

Donate or else. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 53January 5, 2024 8:36 PM

Shriners are a great audience.

by Anonymousreply 54January 7, 2024 12:14 AM

I love the Shriners for this.

by Anonymousreply 55January 7, 2024 12:21 AM

Alec graduated from college a week or two ago.
