I am watching it now in 4K (Criterion just put it out this week). Shepard was so beautiful in this movie—I somehow forgot, though I'm not sure how. It goes without saying that the whole film is visually stunning, but it's almost impossible to take your eyes off of him in it.
True

Can we talk about this film here? I watched it the other night, and ended up sobbing.

He's the hottest one in "The Right Stuff", too.

R3, I wanted to know what happened to those two poor girls.

I can do a devastating parody of Brooke Adams acting.

What a gorgeous movie. Film Forum in Manhattan used to play it all the time in the late 90s/early 2000s. Other films would go in and out but you could always guarantee that “Days of Heaven” would pop up again.

A gender-reversed “Wings of the Dove”.

I had never seen him as a young man. Did he go gray early or something? He has had gray hair ever since I first saw him in Mask

I love this movie except Richard Gere’s hair which is anachronistic (feathered and blow dried, which was typical for the 1970s but wrong for the movie’s time period).

That was Sam Elliott in Mask.

I can't help thinking about my great grandparents who "came over on the boat" and what they had to face to end up building a house and raising a family.

The film premiered in my first year at university and for years after was frequently shown, sometimes paired with 'Badlands.'. I'm sure I've seen it ten times or more in a cinema, and more at home.
It's a fantastic thing.

this is a film that should be seen on the cinema screen more than at home.

I thought he looked more attractive later on. Like a cowboy.

Hated it when the Cannes Film Festival used this film's music for its theme.

One of my very favorite films.

Saw it when it came out twice. Very beautiful to look at with one of the best opening title sequences by the same guy who did the title sequence for MFL which is another of my favorites. Shepard is gorgeous in this and gives the movie the only drama and intensity it has.

It is one of those rare films that does not rely on drama and intensity, yet ultimately packed a wallop for me.

One of my favorite movies. Sam is great looking in this, and in Frances.

Is this the movie that bombed at the BO and sent the director into purgatory?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 10, 2025 10:13 AM |
R22, I don't know, of course, but that sounds like 'Heaven's Gate'.

I had the soundtrack and loved the fire sequence music.

Ah yes. That's the one. Thanks. Days of Heaven didn't do great at the box office but it wasn't the bomb Heaven's Gate was.

I'll have to check the plot on Wiki. I forget why Richard Gere had to pretend to be the brother of Brooke Adams when he was in fact her husband. Maybe the company hiring wouldn't take families.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 10, 2025 10:29 AM |
Oh yes it was to scam Sam Shepard out of his money.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 10, 2025 10:32 AM |
My mom really liked this movie and she really liked Sam Shepard, too. I haven't watched this in so long and I think I'll try to find it now.

I know I'll be roasted for this, but the music from the opening credits is 'The Aquarium' from Camille Saint-Saens' 'The Carnival of the Animals'. Everyone else probably knows this, but I had to figure it put.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 10, 2025 12:11 PM |
it says so on the IMDb soundtrack entry.
Carnival of the Animals - The Aquarium by Camille Saint-Saëns Performed by Wiener Philharmoniker (as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) Used by permission of Polydor International GmbH Copyright 1975 Conducted by Karl Böhm.

Shepard had a perfect face shape. The equally striking Keanu Reeves may have taken, young, Shepard as his acting inspiration. Something about the line delivery. Of course Shepard had so much artistic and intellectual substance behind his dull affect but pretty presence on screen.

I put Viggo M in the same category as Sam S.
Both beautiful and intelligent
