Op here, I'm saying too many websites don't allow discussion on uncomfortable topics. DL is one refuge that allows us to speculate on celebs or hot topics like trans rights, royals, MAGA, Dems, cooking, etc without fear of being shutdown (or redirected).

This isn't specifically about Shawn Mendes, that was a recent example, this thread is about gen-z lacking nuance or an ability to call a spade a spade. Thank goodness for DL, because the number of websites that allow gossip and unpopular opinions without being censored is dwindling. Gen-z seem to cheer on the group-think style of the internet.

Meh, about a third of my college students don't spend time on social media such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube and none of them are on Meta of course. They communicate with real people via their cells but there is a big luddite movement to avoid virtual relationships.

The Gen Zers strike me as very sweet children, idealistic, but seeing no reward in accepting conformity derived from previous collected wisdom. 'Likes' are much more rewarding. That being said, and this is anecdotal, but I notice their total inability to just look at something and figure it out. Orangutans will at least dig in an anthill with a blade of grass. I do not know if many GenZers know what a hard fact is, or how to verify one. There seems to be a lot of faith in "sounds right" and "everyone knows that."
