"Covid-19" twice and now "Ruptured Appendix" - what's the real story? I suspect he drinks... a lot.
Alcohol doesn’t infect your appendix, OP.

I had a ruptured appendix. I had the operation to remove it on Sunday.
I was not released from the hospital until the following Saturday. Had a persistent 101+ fever even after the surgery and the hospital would not release me until the fever broke 6 days later. Then I spent another week in bed at home.

That's hysterical. You obviously don't know many.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 5, 2023 9:27 PM |
R9, do you have a crazy pain tolerance?
I've never understood how people can stand appendix pain long enough for it to burst.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 5, 2023 9:30 PM |
R11, I was admitted to hospital for a blocked intestine. I had to get 2 units of blood because my bowel was dying. A surgeon came in at 2 am and said I needed emergency surgery. “Ok,” said I. I tuned in the tv and watched Endeavour on PBS expecting to be taken to OR within the hour.
I was taken to OR at 4pm in the afternoon. The surgeon had a full schedule and tacked me on at the end. Don’t ask me why he came to the hospital at 2am. He could’ve just told someone to tell me, “We’re putting you on the OR schedule. Dr So and So will come in and talk to you at 7am before he starts his first case.”
Later on I looked the surgeon up and saw he was being sued by a woman who had appendicitis. She was in the hospital and was told by the surgeon she needed surgery. 8 hours later her appendix burst. Same thing happened to her as happened to me -Dr told her emergency surgery was necessary, she expected to go into the OR at any minute but the surgeon returned home, went to bed, then did his entire OR schedule the next day, tacking her on at the end. In meantime her appendix burst, she got peritonitis.
She was suing because if he’d taken her right in and done her surgery, her appendix wouldn’t have burst, she would’ve avoided peritonitis, she would’ve had less pain, spent less time in hospital and needed fewer antibiotics, etc. She said the delay caused her to miss work, which she didn’t get paid for and nearly lost her job. So pain, suffering and loss of income.
Dont know what the upshot was. These cases can go on for years. But this guy didn’t give half a shit about “emergency” patients.”
Maybe that’s what happens to R9.

by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 6, 2023 4:13 AM |
My daughter, at 6 years old, was admitted to the Children's Hospital and was assessed to be suffering from appendicitis. For whatever reason, they waited until her appendix burst, and it wasn't a sudden thing, it took a few hours before this happened. This was a Children's Hospital in New York.
She made it out okay, but she actually had to have an IV to go home so i could give her IV antibiotics for a month. Her arm even developed a contracture from having the IV in for that long and she had to have physical therapy afterward to get it back to normal.
This was about 28 years ago, and we had Medicaid at that time (in New York). I think that played into it. I was just so grateful she didn't die that i never even considered bringing a lawsuit against them, but I believe we would have won big.

It is her fault Colbert got COVID again.
She made him fly out to her house in L.A. for an interview instead of coming to NYC to do publicity for her book like mere mortals do, and he contracted COVID on the trip.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 6, 2023 5:49 AM |
Nothing about him makes me think he's an alcoholic. Yes he's a Catholic. I was raised as a Catholic and my family was lousy with alcoholics, but again, Colbert has none of the red flags. I've seen his work, starting with Strangers with Candy, and read all the profiles. You could probably come up with something unkind to say about him, but at his age, if her were an alcoholic he'd look like absolute shit, and he just doesn't.
If you don't like him just say so, but don't make up wackadoodle theories about him.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 6, 2023 5:55 AM |
He is Catholic but as liberal as they come.
It is possible! People forget Biden and Pelosi are devout Roman Catholics but still support gay rights, reproductive rights, and civil rights. Pelosi marched in gay parades in the '80s and her first public statement as a member of Congress was about AIDS funding.
Colbert's breakout role was playing a gay teacher in Strangers With Candy in the '90s.
He's not a "God freak" or a homophobe, and anyone who suggests otherwise is just an idiot.

Letterman said one of his biggest mistakes on CBS was not having regular guests hosts on his show. I think it's great that Kimmel uses them in the summer. Coberts "After Midnight" show is going to tank too. CBS is going very cheap with this future debacle.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 6, 2023 8:28 AM |
Jeez, was your doctor Dr Spaceman, r12?
At least you can sue in the States (for better or worse). Under the public health system we have you just have to put up with it.
Which includes my mum's Dr telling her for a fucking year(!) to eat more fibre in answer to her stomach pains (turns out she has stage 4 ovarian cancer). After chemo and radiation, with the radiation making tiny painful breaks in her legs, he told her she needed to exercise more - on her broken legs.
Actually, even writing this is making my blood boil.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 6, 2023 9:00 AM |
Why does the upcoming After Midnight need 10 executive producers, including Stephen Colbert's wife?
Doesn't sound like CBS is going all that cheap on this, R29.

Jesus, I’m so sorry. What is her prognosis at this point? I hope she is at least somewhat pain free.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 6, 2023 10:10 AM |
R27 is right. Any kind of persistent alcohol abuse after 50 is going to be all over the face and body-- slack or otherwise horrible skin, malaise, obvious cognitive decline. Not seeing any of that with Colbert. If anything, he seems to be aging really well.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 6, 2023 10:34 AM |
R30 I have read that women get shit on when it comes to health issues and I didn't believe it until my own sister had problems and if it wasn't for her aggressive insistence that something was wrong , pushing her doctor to do more, she'd have been in a mess. I'm so sorry about your mother. In general, doctors aren't what they used to be. You really do have to push to get them to do more than routine stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 6, 2023 1:18 PM |
R35, I’m R12. I refused to leave the ER and kept telling them, “I have a blockage. I’m in severe pain. My mother, her father,, 2 of her sisters aunts and 1 of her brothers all had intestinal blockages. It’s in my family.” My mother was alive at the time, visiting from FL and in the ER with me insisting “She has what I had.”
I finally told them “I’m an NP in NYC at X medical center. You give me a goddamn abdominal CT with contrast. I’m not leaving until you do and my family and I will sue your fucking asses off if anything happens to me., you understand? Every one of you.”
They hated me. I was treated horribly before and after the surgery. You can’t imagine how pissed they were that I was right. I had showed them up.
I was lucky to get out of there alive.
My boss, a heart surgeon, had died a few years earlier of dead gut, which is what happens when you have a blockage in your intestine and your bowel gets gangrenous and dies. He had cancer. I knew I could die.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 7, 2023 1:52 AM |
That's so painful to hear, r36. I'm sorry you had to deal with such medical nonsense. Were your lawyers at least able to instruct the hospital/institution how not to blatantly and openly kill their other patients?

During the 2016 election, Colbert was critical of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, describing her as someone who has "been around for a long time, but actually represents [...] what you would think of as the common systemic corruption of Washington, D.C." adding "I think people's hesitancy about Hillary Clinton is completely reasonable. [...] I can imagine that Trump might be the only person she could beat because she's not a great candidate. And she's got a lot of flaws and a lot of baggage that she can't shake off, however historic or even prepared for the job she is in this case."

[quote]Three weeks of medical leave in a year is a lot, considering he's been off five months because of the strikes.
According to him, that's why his appendix burst. He insisted on taping a double episode (because they had a scheduled day off), even though he was already in pain in the morning, because he was conscious that between the strikes and the Covid he's hardly been on air lately. Obviously, he didn't know the pain was an appendix that might burst. It sounds like he got sepsis: he referred to "blood poisoning".

🙄 That’s absurd. First of all, it’s not his job to debunk insane conspiracy theories. He’s a COMEDIAN. But also, in the video clip he said multiple times that the Pizzagate nonsense was a lie. Plus, you can’t hold Colbert — who has spent the last six years expertly and devastatingly skewering tRump — liable because MAGAts are so stupid that in spite of a complete lack of evidence, they nevertheless believe there was a child sex ring operating out of Comet Ping Pong’s basement — a building that lacks a basement. Sorry, but their stupidity is not Colbert’s fault.
While he enjoys a drink, he’s never struck me as an alcoholic. He got Covid because he didn’t have time to get the latest shot before jetting off to LA. And he didn’t wear a mask on the plane, if I recall correctly. His wife, Evie, did get the shot, did wear a mask, and, oh, didn’t get Covid.
