Everything about these chocolates scream CLASS and SOPHISTICATION - the packaging, the wrapping, the taste, the texture, the cost.
Ferrero Rocher - is there a more luxurious chocolate?
by Anonymous | reply 89 | December 5, 2023 8:38 PM |
I don't know about more luxurious but I do know there are better chocolates.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 4, 2023 11:43 AM |
I just wish they weren't so sweet, although I suppose that's exactly what makes them so addictive – you can't ever have just one.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 4, 2023 11:44 AM |
My partner's Mormon half-sisters think that Ferrero Rocher are the acme of sophistication and class.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 4, 2023 11:46 AM |
Drugstore candy. It’s shit, nicely wrapped.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 4, 2023 11:50 AM |
i've never tried it
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 4, 2023 11:52 AM |
They're not shit. They are probably better average but elevated by excellent marketing. I wish all manufacturer would (be mandated to) add the share of chocolate content for all their milk chocolate like many do for the dark kind. My taste buds prefer chocolate between 35 and 40%. But those are rare. I think they are usually around 34% with a tendency to even lower. Does Hershey even have any cocoa in their chocolate anymore?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 4, 2023 11:56 AM |
SO luxurious, op.
Perfect with your Enjoli perfume and your Chivas Regal alcohol.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 4, 2023 12:00 PM |
I like Ferrero Rocher.
What I do not enjoy are the waxy Lindt LINDOR Truffles.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 4, 2023 12:00 PM |
I'm not a chocolate connoisseur, and acknowledge there are plenty of higher quality options out there...but I love Ferrero Rocher. Particularly the Rondnoir, and Raffaello.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 4, 2023 12:01 PM |
I don't find the name appealing: "roacher."
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 4, 2023 12:02 PM |
Sheesh. It's supermarket chocolate at the middle range. Tasty. Every Swiss city has a few local chocolatiers selling their own chocolate for astronomical prices and that far outclasses over every industrial brand in quality.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 4, 2023 12:10 PM |
I like Tootsie Rolls.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 4, 2023 12:14 PM |
They would go perfectly with your $1.99 Royal Dansk cookies, op!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 4, 2023 12:42 PM |
For whatever reason, they are considered a delicacy in China (PROC).
In a previous life, I worked as the purchaser for a small consulting firm. Whenever consultants were going to China, I had to lay in a supply of these so the consultants could take them with them and had them out as much appreciated and valued gifts.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 4, 2023 12:54 PM |
They sell those in the CVS around the corner; same aisle as the Moleskine notebooks.

[quote] Every Swiss city has a few local chocolatiers selling their own chocolate for astronomical prices and that far outclasses
And as soon as we are in a Swiss city we will try one. But right now I am limited to what my store in the US offers.

Luxurious, OP? Are you from flyoverstan?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 4, 2023 1:11 PM |
We are quite fortunate here to have some nice choices for chocolate.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 4, 2023 1:14 PM |

I'm British, and they're on special offer in Tesco with a club card!

This is a very interesting video about the fine chocolate we have in the Boston area.
Rogue Chocolatier is considered the best chocolate in the country and it’s made right here in Massachusetts.

OP is Nicholas Fairford.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 4, 2023 1:24 PM |
I prefer Rocher’s coconut and almond-based sister Raffaello. They look like little snowballs!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 4, 2023 1:26 PM |
Yes, there are far more luxurious chocolates.
Occasionally I enjoy a Ferrero-Rocher with an unsweetened shot of espresso.

Milk Chocolate Bark- VERY expensive but fabulous taste- it's $40 a pound

Riunite

Are Baci the ones in the glamorous dark blue with silver stars wrapping?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 4, 2023 2:58 PM |
More than the Ferrero chocolate I prefer Hanuta. In the US it's not available everywhere, usually just AMZ or specialty stores like World Market. But oh my god they are delicious. The perfect combination of chocolate and hazelnut sandwiched in a wafer. They re available all over the world. but I think the ingredients vary. I had them in Mexico once and they tasted differently there.
Duplo is excellent, too.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 4, 2023 3:01 PM |
I love Katzenzungen. Yum!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 4, 2023 3:13 PM |
Stale, worm-ridden CRAP. Similar to Dove.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 4, 2023 3:16 PM |
I do think the packaging is nice for something that's available at a supermarket. If you weren't used to seeing something like that, it would be impressive. If people enjoy it, so what.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 4, 2023 3:25 PM |
It costs them 20c to use nicer packaging and enables them to charge 70c more. Good margin for relatively low effort.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 4, 2023 3:33 PM |
Nasty, dry pieces of bug spittle.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 4, 2023 3:47 PM |
But chocolatey, hazel nut infused bug spittle, r48.

Datalounge don't HATE me-
When I was about 25 years old I would go to CVS and purchase a box of Russell Stover chocolates and I considered them quite good at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 4, 2023 4:06 PM |
I like to carefully unwrap them, take out the chocolates and insert brussel sprouts, then leave the box out for my coworkers.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 4, 2023 4:15 PM |
I hope so. Since when do hazelnuts (or as we used to call them, filberts) denote luxury? They're just cheap, nasty-tasting nuts that overwhelm the flavor of everything they're in with their foul taste. I'd rather have a Russell Stover assortment than a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | December 4, 2023 4:17 PM |
Some of these replies are the same kind of vibes when someone complains about McDonald's.....
"But....but....it's my special treat! How can you be so mean about my $2 hamburger?"
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 4, 2023 4:40 PM |
People who say Ferrero Rocher chocolates are nasty are living in an alternate reality. Please check your meds.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 4, 2023 4:40 PM |
R53, I've tried the luxury brand La Maison du Chocolat. Their chocolates don't have much taste. But good for you for being a pretentious fool who has to wait for others to tell him what quality is.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 4, 2023 4:43 PM |
I had a neighbor who was a fantastic cook and developed a specialty for chocolate late in life. She was commissioned by a handful of restaurants and top caterers to make chocolate, and she competed in some national competitions by invitation and was often on study tours in Europe. She had a special kitchen built at her house expressly for chocolate. One thing she impressed upon me was that in chocolate, freshness was hugely important; that while you could buy expensive and perfectly good chocolates with an expiration date many months or even a year out, the quality of truly great chocolate was measured in days, not months, nor even weeks. Temperature conservation could be a big factor as well and part of her kitchen was a series of refrigerators to store chocolate at the optimum temperature for preserving flavor.
Indeed, her chocolate had complex and layered flavor and a texture and body I'll call it that was a world apart from the better boxed chocolates or specialty gourmet stuff, by the piece, fresh from a cooled counter display. It did put me off boxed stuff, and made me think that I were going to spend money for chocolate, buy it from a place where you know the quality is exceptional and that the chocolates are at most days old. I've had good chocolates in Brussels, in Paris, in Italy, and in a few other places that approaches some of the quality of hers, but if it's shipped around in a box and sits on shelves for months, I'm usually as happy with a fresh Kit-Kat or Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. American chocolates are all very sweet (or archly bitter.)
Ferrero Rocher is a not bad (nor novel) idea, but it's excessively sweet more than flavorful.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 4, 2023 4:53 PM |
R50 If you are over 75 years old, that makes sense. They were once nice drug store chocolates. Up through the 60s I'd say. A lot of food brands got destroyed starting in the 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 4, 2023 5:05 PM |
R31 Ferrero Rocher is high end? This is from the firm that makes Nutella and Kinderschokolade.
CHEAP Fat Whore thread!!
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 4, 2023 5:31 PM |
Go ahead and enjoy it, OP. It is tasty. Just don't overpay for it, because it is not a luxury commodity.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 4, 2023 5:33 PM |
OP, if you are focused on class and sophistication you probably don't have either.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 4, 2023 5:35 PM |
available at Dollar Generals across the country!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 4, 2023 5:38 PM |
R3, my partner’s family in Kolkata also think that.
I think the chocolate at Aldi is superior. I don’t care for Italian chocolate at all.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 4, 2023 5:44 PM |
If you want to step up in Italian quality, try Baratti & Milano, Caffarel, Guido Castagna, Venchi and so on. They all make hazelnut delights. You could also buy fresh hazelnuts and eat them with your favorite chocolate. And you can probably find Swiss Lindt chocolates with hazelnuts, and they are basic but delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 4, 2023 5:46 PM |
[quote] I think the chocolate at Aldi is superior.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 4, 2023 6:00 PM |
In the same category I’d rather eat a Cellas chocolate covered cherry 🍒
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 4, 2023 6:05 PM |
So luxurious!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 4, 2023 6:07 PM |
I never cared for them.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 4, 2023 7:42 PM |
R64, where can I get these brands in the US? Do you know? I want to try them.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | December 4, 2023 8:20 PM |
R57, article dated May 19, 2022. Got anything newer?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 4, 2023 8:40 PM |
I enjoy them. I also enjoy local chocolatiers and the pricey chocolates at Whole Foods. But don’t overlook Aldi. While I avoid most items at Aldi, they do have really, really good chocolate. And I’m a sentimental fat whore: my father would sometimes bring home a box of Russell Stover and we’d devour them. Chocolate with a cup of plain black coffee is my favorite treat.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 4, 2023 8:59 PM |
I like the Choceur chocolate from Aldi. The Lindor truffles, also.
I haven’t had Whitman’s Sampler chocolates for many years, but I remember liking those and the box a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 4, 2023 9:13 PM |
R73 is RIGHT
Lindor is 💯 better
by Anonymous | reply 75 | December 4, 2023 9:16 PM |
You get Lindt at RiteAid. It’s that cheap.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | December 4, 2023 9:20 PM |
But it’s true, compared to American chocolate, which taste like machine oil (think of her Hershey’s) European chocolate is infinitely better.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | December 4, 2023 9:21 PM |
R76 so? Your Ferror Roche is on the shelf next to it.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | December 4, 2023 9:22 PM |
Ritter Sport has nice chocolate, too. This almond-orange milk chocolate is my current favorite. I'd say the quality of their chocolate is above average.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | December 4, 2023 9:34 PM |
R79 in Germany it’s their Hershey’s
by Anonymous | reply 80 | December 4, 2023 9:37 PM |

Godiva isn't around anymore but when they were, people complained it was a brand successful with marketing an inferior product
by Anonymous | reply 83 | December 4, 2023 11:34 PM |
What do you mean? Godiva is still around. They just don't have stores in every mall.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | December 5, 2023 12:14 AM |
Godiva started off as delicious and high quality then it passed through different owners and declined each time.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | December 5, 2023 1:01 AM |
True, R85. Godiva chocolates in recent years are just too loaded with sugar.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | December 5, 2023 2:00 AM |
Where have the Baci gone? I can’t find them anywhere near me. Hope they haven’t gone out of business. I love those chocolate and hazelnut morsels.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | December 5, 2023 2:48 PM |
Does anyone remember a raspberry liqueur chocolate brand from the 80s or 90s? I think they came in a bar where you would break strips off. My first introduction to alcohol.
Dipping Dairy Milk into Chambord is not the same.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | December 5, 2023 2:51 PM |
Aldi really isn't bad, it's true. Some of those brands are German and they may not be Super Mega Deluxe but they're very good, especially for the price.
Trader Joe's is also good. They had a chocolate bar with cornflakes mixed in that beat the Ritter version - twice as big for half the price. Being TJ's it's already discontinued, but they do have quality items, generally speaking.
