Is Harvey Fierstein dying?

How sad.

Ozempic for Fat Whores!

by Anonymousreply 1November 27, 2023 11:53 PM

I thought he was still in prison for all the bad things he done did to all those innocent women.

But I've never seen him look better.

by Anonymousreply 2November 28, 2023 12:01 AM

R2…fail

by Anonymousreply 3November 28, 2023 12:03 AM

If I had to guess, I'd say it was throat cancer.

His gravelly voice always made me think that he was a heavy, heavy, heavy smoker.

by Anonymousreply 4November 28, 2023 12:04 AM

[quote] Is Harvey Fierstein dying?

Is that so wrong?

by Anonymousreply 5November 28, 2023 12:04 AM

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 6November 28, 2023 12:05 AM

He had become morbidly obese. He nay have had bariatric surgery.

by Anonymousreply 7November 28, 2023 12:05 AM

I didn’t recognise him in Bros.

by Anonymousreply 8November 28, 2023 12:06 AM

[quote] He nay have had bariatric surgery.

Neigh!

by Anonymousreply 9November 28, 2023 12:06 AM

I hope his weight loss is medically supervised and for health reasons, to lessen cardiometabolic risk factors.

Separately, I try not to theorize about the health of older guys. I will be that age myself one day, and I’d feel bad if people made false assumptions about my health and lifestyle. It’s hard to be an “open window”, an aging single guy.

by Anonymousreply 10November 28, 2023 12:20 AM

When older folks drop a lot of weight sagging is inevitable.

by Anonymousreply 11November 28, 2023 12:25 AM

He looks gaunt and unhealthy.

by Anonymousreply 12November 28, 2023 12:32 AM

[quote]He looks gaunt and unhealthy.

He looks very unhealthy. I would not recognize him if he hadn't been pointed out.

The weight loss seems severe . Its either Ozempic or some form of cancer.

by Anonymousreply 13November 28, 2023 12:37 AM

Harvey Fierstein is GAUNT to me.

by Anonymousreply 14November 28, 2023 12:41 AM

Aw, I always knew he and Jordan Peterson would wind up together...

by Anonymousreply 15November 28, 2023 12:44 AM

Harvey is a sweet guy -I hope he is well.

by Anonymousreply 16November 28, 2023 1:07 AM

He gets to age thin and rich.

Imagine if he leaves behind pets…”Forever home needed for audibly abused Bichon frize - Emphysema sufferers encouraged to apply”

by Anonymousreply 17November 28, 2023 1:16 AM

Oh, no. I didn't even recognize him. Read his autobiography last year, which had many photos of him. He doesn't look long for the world.

by Anonymousreply 18November 28, 2023 1:18 AM

Even if it’s Ozempic, is it normal to lose 75 pounds on it? I’m guessing bariatric surgery

by Anonymousreply 19November 28, 2023 1:19 AM

I always loved this pic of HF - darkly handsome and just a tad plump - sultry. Love his voice, too.

My cousin’s friend who is a stylist to ALL the big names in podcast journalism says that Senator Graham paid Harvey to record European inseam conversion charts. The heavy breathing sounds,Mr. Fierstein makes as he reaches the 51-52 range is kind of hot.

by Anonymousreply 21November 28, 2023 1:40 AM

He looks like a shorter Jeff Goldblum there. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

by Anonymousreply 22November 28, 2023 1:44 AM

In a 2022 interview, he stated that he stopped drinking alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 23November 28, 2023 1:56 AM

“To Brenda Vaccaro, I leave $1.00 for reasons known to her. She is to stay away from my beloved pets and the lanai.”

by Anonymousreply 24November 28, 2023 2:05 AM

Wow. Harvey has been big as a house for years. He looks rather dire here, but maybe he got tired of being a big fat person?

Even if he dies and everyone acts like he was so talented, the truth is he has only ever recycled the "Gays aren't authentic unless they're drag queens" play to death. All of his writing is the same fucking thing over and over.

Either that, or the horror of Michael Urie's bizarrely awful performance in the otherwise dated and rotten revival of "Torch Song Trilogy" a few years ago finally hit him!

by Anonymousreply 25November 28, 2023 2:50 AM

Which one is he? The GAY one?

by Anonymousreply 26November 28, 2023 2:58 AM

Hopefully he’s okay.

by Anonymousreply 27November 28, 2023 3:00 AM

[quote]Imagine if he leaves behind pets…”Forever home needed for audibly abused Bichon frize - Emphysema sufferers encouraged to apply”

All joking aside, r17, Harvey owns 2 or 3 enormous dogs.

by Anonymousreply 28November 28, 2023 3:31 AM

I like Harvey. I hope he's all right.

by Anonymousreply 29November 28, 2023 3:38 AM

He was actually pretty handsome when he was younger.

I loved Torch Song Trilogy when it came out - never saw anything that painted gay life and struggle so accurately.

Hopefully he's healthier.

by Anonymousreply 30November 28, 2023 3:45 AM

He looks thin. He doesn't look unhealthy. This weight loss has been going on for awhile now. It appears drastic, but wasn't sudden.

I'm also with FNF/r25 here, plus a little more. He isn't an incredibly talented individual, nor is he a particularly nice guy. I worked with him 3 times, at 10 year intervals.

I certainly wish him well, but I'd be happy to never have to work with him on any level ever again. He wasn't necessarily a horror, but he sucks all of the air out of a room. Fucking exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 31November 28, 2023 3:47 AM

He could be John Turturro’s brother.

by Anonymousreply 32November 28, 2023 3:51 AM

Why is he fabric shopping? Is that Billy Crudup on the right? What are they sewing?

by Anonymousreply 33November 28, 2023 3:56 AM

Harvey is a quilter, r33.

by Anonymousreply 34November 28, 2023 4:31 AM

Per R1, I immediately thought Ozempic or the equivalent.

by Anonymousreply 35November 28, 2023 4:40 AM

[quote] Harvey Fierstein is GAUNT to me.

G.A.U.N.T.

by Anonymousreply 36November 28, 2023 4:46 AM

He looks like Sophia Petrillo

by Anonymousreply 37November 28, 2023 4:57 AM

[Quote]Even if it’s Ozempic, is it normal to lose 75 pounds on it?

Oh yeah, the heavier people are when they start, the more they stand to lose on it.

by Anonymousreply 38November 28, 2023 4:58 AM

That's a rough 69.

Hope he's ok.

by Anonymousreply 39November 28, 2023 4:59 AM

He doesn't look ill when the photo is enlarged. I wonder if he has issues with osteoarthritis and the weight was just making life miserable.

by Anonymousreply 40November 28, 2023 5:26 AM

Who’s the twink?

by Anonymousreply 41November 28, 2023 6:43 AM

Sad last days?

by Anonymousreply 42November 28, 2023 6:47 AM

He's a massive asshole. That being said, I do hope he's not sick. I also hope he's retired.

by Anonymousreply 43November 28, 2023 6:50 AM

He sounded like someone who had lung cancer 40 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 44November 28, 2023 7:04 AM

Doesn’t he have like double vocal cords or something? That’s the reason for the voice.

by Anonymousreply 45November 28, 2023 7:05 AM

I don't think that's a particularly rough 69.

by Anonymousreply 46November 28, 2023 11:57 AM

He's lost weight for a new movie role.

by Anonymousreply 47November 28, 2023 12:09 PM

Many years ago on the Howard Stern show - Howard said( VERY homophobic - but I laughed anyway)

You’d think all that semen would clear up his throat.

by Anonymousreply 48November 28, 2023 12:16 PM

From birth, all of us are dying.

by Anonymousreply 49November 28, 2023 12:40 PM

I've only heard rotten things from those who've worked with him.

by Anonymousreply 50November 28, 2023 5:04 PM

“To Andrew Sullivan, I leave a vocal recording of, ‘Ew’”

by Anonymousreply 51November 29, 2023 7:08 AM

Sad last gays!

by Anonymousreply 52November 29, 2023 7:48 AM

What's he doing in a quilt shop in the picture in the OP?

by Anonymousreply 53November 29, 2023 8:30 AM

It's not just the weight loss but the fact that he used to have a beard that's making his face now look sickly.

Maybe he should have kept the beard.

BTW who's the guy on the right in the picture?

by Anonymousreply 54November 29, 2023 10:12 AM

I thought he had nodules on his vocal cords and that was why his voice was so gravelly.

by Anonymousreply 55November 29, 2023 11:32 AM

Harvey was interviewed on NPR last year when his autobiography, "I Was Better Last Night" came out. I think it was Terry Gross on "Fresh Air" who interviewed him for a full hour.

I had to change the station. I couldn't listen to Harvey's gravely voice. It was so grating I really wanted to know what Harvey had to say, but just couldn't listen to his voice on the radio for 60 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 56November 29, 2023 6:13 PM

I think he looks great. He was much much much too fat. A vast improvement.

by Anonymousreply 57November 29, 2023 6:22 PM

Is he really into quilting?

by Anonymousreply 58November 29, 2023 6:23 PM

He looks Rachel Maddow at 80.

by Anonymousreply 59November 29, 2023 6:47 PM

R58 yes. Check out his Instagram.

[quote ] BTW who's the guy on the right in the picture?

Steven Skybell, Hot Tevye in the Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof.

by Anonymousreply 61November 29, 2023 7:14 PM

He only looks gaunt because we remember him as a fatty.

by Anonymousreply 62November 29, 2023 7:49 PM

That's Steven Skybell? Damn, he cleans up well.

by Anonymousreply 63November 29, 2023 8:14 PM

Has Harvey ever written anything else that was successful/memorable since the one-two punch of TST and La Cage?

I feel like he's been coasting for 40 years. Am I forgetting something? (Outside of performances, I mean.)

by Anonymousreply 64November 29, 2023 8:18 PM

[quote]Imagine if he leaves behind pets…”Forever home needed for audibly abused Bichon frize - Emphysema sufferers encouraged to apply”

[quote]All joking aside, [R17], Harvey owns 2 or 3 enormous dogs.

You can see photos of Harvey's giant dogs that r28 mentions in r60's link.

by Anonymousreply 65November 29, 2023 9:26 PM

“To Susan St James I leave a hearty Go Fuck Yourself! Sure you were thinner, prettier, with better hair, and you fucked McMillan. I had a sexier voice.”

by Anonymousreply 66November 29, 2023 10:28 PM

[quote] Has Harvey ever written anything else that was successful/memorable since the one-two punch of TST and La Cage?

He wrote the libretto to the slick, yet dull and vacant hit Kinky Boots, and some play called Casa Susanna about straight transvestites at a Catskills resort...really.

by Anonymousreply 67November 29, 2023 11:11 PM

I would love to write a libretto but no one has ever asked!

by Anonymousreply 68November 29, 2023 11:16 PM

“If Bernadette Peters attends my funeral, I want her up front, seated in a vinyl chair. She pees when she cries, poor dear.”

by Anonymousreply 69November 29, 2023 11:19 PM

Oh that's right, I totally forgot about Kinky Boots.

I wouldn't call Casa Valentina successful or memorable. What about Newsies? Could that be called either?

by Anonymousreply 70November 30, 2023 12:20 AM

He co-wrote the book for Legs Diamond.

I'd rather accidentally douche with Drano

by Anonymousreply 74November 30, 2023 2:42 AM

Are you in the right thread, r74? Are you ok? Should we call someone for you?

Harvey has been dropping weight for some time. The loss is drastic, but wasn't sudden. This looks like a Kevin Smith or Penn Gillette? situation. He likely had a health scare and heeded it.

He's just grown into the little old lady he always was. He spends his time with his dogs, his quilting, and his antiquing.

by Anonymousreply 75November 30, 2023 9:05 AM

[quote] Are you in the right thread, [R74]? Are you ok? Should we call someone for you?

That's a line from Torch Song Trilogy, hon.

by Anonymousreply 76November 30, 2023 5:53 PM

*turning in my gay card and slinking away....*

by Anonymousreply 77November 30, 2023 6:22 PM

I remember he had a part in the film Independence Day. I can’t recall much about it except being really annoyed by the character he played. I think it was really over the top.

by Anonymousreply 78December 5, 2023 11:31 AM

Also..remember..fat people die younger than skinny people.

by Anonymousreply 79December 5, 2023 11:44 AM

R79- True. ALL of the FAT people from

What’s Happening! have long since died.

Mabel King 1999

Shirley Hemphill 1999

Fred Berry ( he always seemed gay to me). 2003

by Anonymousreply 80December 5, 2023 12:30 PM

He and his partner in Mrs Doubtfire were the first gay couple I remember ever seeing on the TV as a kid, so I will always have a soft spot for him for that alone.

by Anonymousreply 81December 5, 2023 12:31 PM

[quote] Even if it’s Ozempic, is it normal to lose 75 pounds on it?

Depends on how much you have to lose, For people who need to lose 75 lbs, yes Ozempic or Mounjaro does that. Go over to reddit and look at the subs on semaglutide, Ozempic, tirzepatide, mounjaro. Lots of people losing 50/75/100 lbs.

What would you rather do? Be hospitalized, have painful abdominal surgery, eat restricted liquid diet? Or take a tiny subcutaneous shot once a week and eat vegetables, fruit, eggs, etc?

I’ve lost 40 lbs in 11 months on Ozempic. I’m not hungry and I don’t count calories. For people who say Ozempic is the “easy way out”….compared to bariatric surgery, yeah. It’s easier.

by Anonymousreply 82December 5, 2023 5:46 PM

R82. Congrats on the weight loss! If I needed to lose a significant amount of weight I would choose Ozempic over surgery, too. My friend went through painful surgery, lost weight and put it all back on. What a waste.

by Anonymousreply 83December 6, 2023 1:17 PM

Ozempic

by Anonymousreply 84December 23, 2023 3:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 87December 23, 2023 4:33 PM

He has a snarly reputation as a highly unpleasant person, though is admittedly a hard worker.
