100 Ways White People Can Make Life Less Frustrating For People of Color

As someone with very low tolerance for racist bullshit, I’ve managed to surround myself with white people who are cognizant of their privilege and strive to make the world a less terrifying and frustrating place for people of color. This means that I often deal with said white people asking me what they can actually do to affect change. So here, anxious allies of the world, are 100 simple ways to be the change. It's not nearly comprehensive, but it's somewhere to start. Go forth and disrupt our harmful racial paradigm!

1. Don’t move out of our neighborhoods. White flight is racist.

2. Don’t move in to our neighborhoods. Gentrification is racist.

. 3. Don’t help starving black kids in Africa. White saviorism is racist.

4. Don’t ignore the starving black kids in Africa. Ignoring black suffering is racist.

5. Don’t avoid our culture. That’s racist.

6. Don’t engage in our culture. Cultural appropriation is racist.

by Anonymousreply 1November 26, 2023 12:43 AM

Yet another dumb black archetype who thinks that they aren’t an “equal” unless they have special privileges.

by Anonymousreply 2November 26, 2023 12:51 AM

She's really scraping the bottom the barrel with grievances like this:

40. Remember that not all people of color are straight. 42. People can be Black and gay and disabled and trans and middle class. Blackness is expansive. It doesn’t look one way. Keep this in mind. 43. When we talk about race, we’re not just talking about men! Repeat after me: Intersections of race and gender exist.

Frankly, the world is tired of capitulating to imperious cunts like the retarded bitch who wrote this tedious list of complaints—there is so much shit said here but very little of substance actually communicated. If anyone is curious, here is the blue-eyed, white passing, Swedish-speaking twat who wrote this:

[quote]Understand that nothing in your life has been untouched by your whiteness. Everything you have would have been harder to come by if you had not been born white.

Thinkers who traffic in such universalizing are usually second-rate.

by Anonymousreply 4November 26, 2023 12:54 AM

I had no issues with the list. Seems ok to me.

by Anonymousreply 5November 26, 2023 1:06 AM

"98. Move past your white guilt. Guilt is an unproductive emotion. Don’t sit there mired in woe, just be better."

So beyond the other 99 rules you should follow, you really don't need to overthink all this stuff.

by Anonymousreply 6November 26, 2023 1:07 AM

2. Don’t assume that all people of color share the same views. We are not a monolith.

Doesn't this kind of discredit the rest of her list? What if some people of color think her list is offensive?

by Anonymousreply 7November 26, 2023 1:11 AM

[quote] "Move past your white guilt."

That's pretty presumptive.

by Anonymousreply 8November 26, 2023 1:13 AM

Fuck her. It's not my responsibility to make your life easier.

by Anonymousreply 9November 26, 2023 1:18 AM

R5 Then you’re part of the problem aren’t ya?

by Anonymousreply 10November 26, 2023 1:31 AM

Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you".

Dear, that's ALL you need.

by Anonymousreply 11November 26, 2023 1:32 AM

Is she aware that she has a bogger hanging out of her nose @ R3? I'm embarrassed for her, as a white person especially.

by Anonymousreply 12November 26, 2023 2:04 AM

The required shampoo AND hair conditioner, in the shower, is over the top.

by Anonymousreply 13November 26, 2023 2:07 AM

^ Yeah like bring your own then you cheap entitled bitch.

by Anonymousreply 14November 26, 2023 2:09 AM

Since when are only POC raped? All the women I know that were raped were white women raped by black men. I don’t see how lying about how things are makes everything better.

by Anonymousreply 15November 26, 2023 2:15 AM

[quote]All the women I know that were raped were white women raped by black men.

Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 16November 26, 2023 2:18 AM

101 Winey bitches of any color should be ignored.

by Anonymousreply 17November 26, 2023 2:28 AM

Well I for one took copious notes! I shall run the by my domestic coordinator La'Tralier Perkins - Jones when she returns from her Thanksgiving conjugal trip to visit "her man" who is currently incarcerated in Florida. I hope she took my advice regarding the Lysol douches before and after intercourse!!!

by Anonymousreply 18November 26, 2023 2:43 AM

A lot of these are just rules for not being an asshole to any of your friends.

by Anonymousreply 19November 26, 2023 2:50 AM

It would be nice if more people remembered #2

by Anonymousreply 20November 26, 2023 2:52 AM

I'm looking forward to the 100 ways People Of Color can make life less frustrating for White people list.

by Anonymousreply 21November 26, 2023 3:00 AM

The list is ok - but it felt stretched in order to find 100 items.

Outside of her hair, she looks like a white woman with blue eyes. I'm not saying she hasn't met racism in her life, but...c'mon. She clearly has a white parent.

It just seems awfully strident of her - when it ALMOST appears like she's co-opting this stuff to feel aggrieved and have something to write about.

by Anonymousreply 22November 26, 2023 3:28 AM

A Karen is a Karen of any color.

No thanks, snowflake.

by Anonymousreply 23November 26, 2023 3:35 AM

An article with the reverse premise would be interesting and immediately get the writer cancelled

by Anonymousreply 24November 26, 2023 3:41 AM

I found the list very helpful but she's probably just preaching to the choir. That saix, I was annoyed by 13:. Stop asking thin-bodied Black women, "Has anyone ever told you that you look like Butterfly McQueen?" and requesting we cry, "I doan know nuthin bout birthing babies!"

by Anonymousreply 25November 26, 2023 3:45 AM

r22 in my experience, it is usually mixed-race people who are the most militant about things like this. Kind of like the most militant Marxists I know all had very comfortable socioeconomic backgrounds in childhood. Now that I think about it, the people of color I know like this are generally privileged too, usually socioeconomically. In both cases, maybe it has something to do with guilt, especially unacknowledged guilt, about their relative privilege.

by Anonymousreply 26November 26, 2023 12:08 PM

Why do we even have to kowtow to their demands?

by Anonymousreply 27November 26, 2023 1:40 PM

You don't, r27.

by Anonymousreply 28November 26, 2023 1:43 PM

R21 , they could do the following:

STOP: Playing the race card Playing the victim card Excusing out of wedlock children Encouraging single mothers to have more babies Downplaying education as the way to better their current situation Excusing their children when they lie , cheat and steal Excusing the gun violence in their communities Stop looking the other way when gang bangers commit crimes Stop discouraging people from seeking mental health treatment .

Do all those things and then maybe things would improve

by Anonymousreply 29November 26, 2023 1:48 PM

Gosh. And I can think of three things that people of color can do that not only would make life better for people of color but improve life for the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 30November 26, 2023 1:59 PM

[quote]Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you".

[quote]Dear, that's ALL you need.

Oh yes, yes, YES!

by Anonymousreply 31November 26, 2023 2:36 PM

R26 - that's not always been my experience, but I agree that I have seen that as well.

I went to college with Ben Jealous, the former head of the NAACP - and he was the most militant guy I've ever met. I honestly did not know what this white guy was going on about in one of our seminars - and later learned he was part black.

His white father comes from a blue-blood multi-millionaire family in New England. His mother's family were among the Jack and Jill set.

He was on that PBS Finding My Roots show - turns out he's 12% black. Not saying that anything he fought for and anything he said was not true - but it felt a bit weird. For all intents and purposes, I thought he was a rich, privileged white guy who only went to private schools (true).

To a certain extent, racism is typically experienced because you visually do not look white. I don't believe Ben or this author have had the same experience as other people of color. I'm not saying it has never happened, but seems off to take the mic and preach about it like you've been so down-trodden yourself.

by Anonymousreply 32November 26, 2023 3:24 PM

I’ve never met a mixed person who doesn’t have a serious complex about it, especially people who are really light-skinned. They tend to be the most obsessed with racism (despite the fact that they don’t experience it at nearly the same level) because they are, at the end of the day, insecure. They’re projecting all their toxic neuroses onto the world.

by Anonymousreply 33November 26, 2023 3:30 PM

63. If there are only a couple of people of color in your seminar, don’t weirdly stare at them when the lecturer poses questions about race and expect them to answer everything.

Bullshit. Her suggestion is exactly the opposite of what you should do if you are white. If you are white, you do not comment on anything race related, except to acknowledge in vague terms that racism exists and it is bad and diversity is good and we need more. This one pisses me off because white people have been told over and over again that they value their opinions too much and that they are too willing to speak up about things outside their personal experience. And that’s legit. It’s a fair criticism. So why is she saying the opposite?

Overall, I think the list comes off pretty poorly. The ones telling people what not to do make reading the list feel like being accused of being likely to do the stuff listed. And I am not likely to refer to Africa as a country, hit on someone by saying I’ve never fucked a black person, or touch a black woman’s hair.

Others are off-putting because they are so obvious. If you want to complain about poor behavior, fine. But don’t do it in the guise of creating a helpful list - Never try and pull any uninvited “race play” shit in the bedroom? She left out “Don’t set fires to daycare centers”

Some of the ones suggesting what to do are good. I liked the ones below.

24. Read books by people of color. I recommend Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde, The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and literally everything that Junot Diaz writes for great insights into Blackness.

25. Watch shows that are created by people of color i.e. Atlanta or Insecure. (Seriously, if you haven’t seen Atlanta, you need to watch it. Now.)

26. Have a critical eye when watching TV and movies. How are they portraying people of color and why? What purpose does it serve?

by Anonymousreply 34November 26, 2023 3:38 PM

"Don't move into my neighborhood bitch because WE own it."

"You can't tell me I can't move into your neighborhood because YOU don't own it."

Nothing racist in any of that now is there?

Also look the other way when your favorite white character goes dark-skinned but we won't look the other way when our favorite character goes light-skinned.

by Anonymousreply 35November 26, 2023 3:52 PM

The guy in the picture is kind of cute.

That’s all. Carry on.

by Anonymousreply 36November 26, 2023 4:22 PM

Don't call yourselves " People of color" when you mean " black" because there are millions of " People of color" who are not black, and we resent the co-opting.

by Anonymousreply 37November 26, 2023 4:33 PM

R37 “POC” was just a way to loop more people into the BLM grift, but make no mistake there is only one color that’s the star of the show.

by Anonymousreply 38November 26, 2023 4:36 PM

Her list is exhausting and she's not someone I'd be friends with. You would be constantly on edge afraid to make a faux pas. How about treat everyone the same but be yourself?

by Anonymousreply 39November 26, 2023 4:39 PM

[quote]Why do we even have to kowtow to their demands?

Only Democrats take this 'woke' shit seriously.

That's why they need to be voted out, because it will continue to fester unless it's nipped in the bud.

And they aren't willing to do that.

by Anonymousreply 40November 26, 2023 4:47 PM

I'm a Democrat R40. Don't lump us all together. You think all Democrats are far left. Not so.

I'm not voting Maga though.

by Anonymousreply 41November 26, 2023 4:50 PM

Oh, and I don't know any democrats who take this shit seriously either.

by Anonymousreply 42November 26, 2023 4:52 PM

17. Don’t tell me what to do.

by Anonymousreply 43November 26, 2023 4:53 PM

[quote]24. Read books by people of color. I recommend Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde, The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and literally everything that Junot Diaz writes for great insights into Blackness.

I don't give a shit about "Blackness". Why should I?

by Anonymousreply 44November 26, 2023 4:55 PM

At least my racist Aunt Linda is quieter and less insufferable than these guilty white liberals. AND the cow can make a fantastic buttermilk pie!

by Anonymousreply 45November 26, 2023 5:13 PM

The author's white. Whitey white white. White as a sheet of paper. White as a tooth. White as... white as Meghan Markle. And she's an insufferable narcissistic preachy type who has only one message for you : that she dug deep in her genes to find a reason to play victim and then use your natural kindness to make you feel perpetually guilty and indebted to her. Cast your eyes down when she's speaking to you, you disgusting sinner!

It's people like her who have repulsed me from many of those I used to consider my own politically and it's people like her who have alienated me as an ally (mainly to the trans, as they are the most "kowtow to me" preachy, but I wouldn't come close to anyone who would allow themselves to speak to me like this).

The funniest thing is that, when I talk to someone like that online, it quickly transpires that they have NO CONCEPT of the fact that the USA isn't the only country in the world and on the Internet, that there are many other demographic, historic and sociocultural paradigms in the world and no, we are not all obliged to be informed about every tiny cultural detail of black/trans/etc. people's lives in America so as to be able to tiptoe guiltily around it. Man, the number of times I've been banned from Facebook groups for saying this 😂

by Anonymousreply 46November 26, 2023 5:14 PM

[quote] I found the list very helpful

😂

by Anonymousreply 47November 26, 2023 5:22 PM

The author's resume:

- Degrees in sociology and gender studies

- Editor of self-published feminist poetry

- Author focused on "sex, sexuality, and pleasure"

- Available for paid commissions as a "sensitivity reader" (she will read your writing, for a fee, and tell you how racist it is)

- Author of the hit piece "Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race," published a year before she wrote this article talking to white people about race

And yes, she's single and available for full- or part-time employment.

by Anonymousreply 48November 26, 2023 5:23 PM

Does she do windows?

by Anonymousreply 49November 26, 2023 5:25 PM

How can she be white with a name like Kesiena?

by Anonymousreply 50November 26, 2023 5:27 PM

Girls girls, you’re all racist cunts.

by Anonymousreply 51November 26, 2023 5:28 PM

She's mixed-race, raised around white people, and discovered her new identity as a college freshman at an all-white university.

by Anonymousreply 52November 26, 2023 5:29 PM

Oh, gosh, what if I just took a short cut and moved to a place where there are no black people at all? Then I wouldn't be bothering the poor tragic things.

Pretty sure they'd all be overjoyed to see the back of me and would want to stay far, far away from my new totally white town. Yep, pretty sure that's how it'd work.

by Anonymousreply 53November 26, 2023 5:32 PM

I never understand why some of you get so upset about this kind of stuff. You're just like those people who are claiming that CRT is taught in elementary schools.

by Anonymousreply 54November 26, 2023 5:37 PM

The endless need for new content results in garbage articles about race.

by Anonymousreply 55November 26, 2023 5:37 PM

5 Ways Black People Can Make Life Less Frustrating For Everyone Else

1. Realize that you are the only ones who complain and that no one else cares.

2. Realize that only you need DEI to “succeed.” Asians and Indians are doing just fine without it. Even poor Latinos find a way to get by.

3. Realize that YOU are the cause of most of your problems. Ok, so slavery happened, and ended a few hundred years ago. The reason that you continue to fail is because you don’t emphasize education. You continue to get shot by police because you don’t know how to behave. I have been pulled over for speeding many times in my life and I always knew that I would not help myself by being belligerent. And you all ruin your children’s chances of getting a good job by naming them Vondaleesha.

4. If you’re going to constantly bitch and complain about white privilege, then you look kind of stupid when you ONLY date white people.

5. You can’t have it both ways. If you want to be treated like everyone else, then stop constantly bringing up race and screaming about the endless myriad of ways you are a victim. Just act normal.

by Anonymousreply 56November 26, 2023 5:52 PM

R56 there seems to be this mentality that being a ghetto fabulous hood rat is “part of my culture and heritage”. There is so much ego and identity tied up in nasty rap music and the symbolism. This idea of “I should be CEO of AT&T while ‘talkin’ like dis’ and wearing a Lakers jersey, drinking Sunkist and smokin a blunt with my feet on the desk” is so disconnected from reality. It’s spreading to other ethnicities’ cultures too. Unfortunately this idea is probably here to stay and leading to our Idiocracy future. Would you hire a redneck in off-brand Wranglers with a Skoal can imprint, chugging Mountain Dew and saying “well, I do reckon”? These people think by flouting corporate standards that they’re standing up for themselves, their ancestors and what they believe, but they’re all just trash.

by Anonymousreply 57November 26, 2023 6:06 PM

R57: “ Would you hire a redneck in off-brand Wranglers with a Skoal can imprint, chugging Mountain Dew and saying “well, I do reckon”?”

I would definitely hire that guy for something.

by Anonymousreply 58November 26, 2023 7:03 PM

R58 That's because you're nothing but a filthy prostitution WHORE!

by Anonymousreply 59November 26, 2023 7:04 PM

R59 - but $20 bucks is $20 bucks.

by Anonymousreply 60November 26, 2023 7:12 PM

R60 And $20 will get you four throws with Billy Skoal.

by Anonymousreply 61November 26, 2023 7:13 PM

Girls, GIRLS!

by Anonymousreply 62November 26, 2023 7:33 PM

Give everything away.

by Anonymousreply 63November 26, 2023 7:51 PM

The lame quips at the end of most of these items are the sign of a bad writer. “Just, please.” Semi sarcasm is not the way to make your point.

by Anonymousreply 64November 26, 2023 8:04 PM

I feel no guilt and absolutely no obligation to make life more comfortable to anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 65November 26, 2023 8:09 PM

[quote]Ok, so slavery happened, and ended a few hundred years ago.

Perhaps you should find something to talk about that doesn't make you seem like an ignoramus.

by Anonymousreply 66November 26, 2023 9:27 PM

[quote]Ok, so slavery happened, and ended a few hundred years ago.

But it's like it was yesterday!

Fashions go, fashions come...

by Anonymousreply 68November 26, 2023 9:38 PM

[quote] Oh, and I don't know any democrats who take this shit seriously either.

I do. Man, it is something else to watch them watching themselves to make sure they check off the correct woke boxes when talking about politics or whatever. Or just the general parroting of basic talking points about this or that. I hate that shit from anyone.

by Anonymousreply 69November 26, 2023 10:11 PM

What????

Can it be that maybe, just maybe, this OP is merely sticking a troll's fork into the flesh of the DL here?

No! It couldn't be!

People aren't like that here on the DL, are they???

by Anonymousreply 70November 26, 2023 11:00 PM

Realize whenever someone writes up like this is just always one person's opinion. Others may or may not agree.

You certainly don't have to read it.

Especially if it makes you mad.

by Anonymousreply 71November 26, 2023 11:08 PM

Are black people gonna do anything for me? You know, like stop calling me faggot and STFU in public, and quit begging for change on the street every damn day of my life?

If so, I'm listening.

by Anonymousreply 72November 27, 2023 6:41 AM

I didn’t read the article because these comments are more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 73November 27, 2023 8:55 AM

I approve of this list.

And for $30,000, I can unpack it for you.

by Anonymousreply 74November 27, 2023 4:37 PM

Some of you seem way too irrationally triggered by this. Like, MAGA-level triggered. I don’t understand the extreme reactions.

by Anonymousreply 75November 27, 2023 4:56 PM

You don't have to be a MAGA lunatic to see that there's something wrong with that stupid list asking a whole racial group to make life easier for another one. Life is a two-way street.

by Anonymousreply 76November 27, 2023 5:49 PM

[quote] 100 Billion Way$ White People Can Make Life Less Frustrating For People of Color

by Anonymousreply 77November 27, 2023 5:55 PM

101, If any of these previous items sent you into a rage (especially R1), you are definitely racist.

by Anonymousreply 78November 27, 2023 6:03 PM

If Reparations would solve the problem, I’d be all for them . But they would solve nothing .

by Anonymousreply 79November 27, 2023 6:18 PM

R78, I think you'll find that name-calling no longer works as well as it used to, on this site or anywhere else.

by Anonymousreply 80November 27, 2023 6:23 PM

From the author who is clearly mixed-race herself, these 3 were weird to me:

53. Remember that having mixed race children is not a cure for racism or a way to live out weird racial fantasies.

54. If you’re trying to start a mixed raced family, sit down and deeply interrogate your intentions.

55. If you do have mixed race children, make sure that they have access to people who look like them and who understand their experiences.

Deeply interrogate your intentions? Like your mom and dad? Did they have weird racial fantasies?

This woman is ready to lecture you about EVERYTHING at any moment. Steer clear.

She's trying sooooooo hard to be a badass - if you see how she writes about herself, it's so over the top. Sit down yourself white looking girl and let someone who truly experiences racism take the mic.

by Anonymousreply 81November 28, 2023 12:58 AM

not my goal in life, sorry!

by Anonymousreply 82November 28, 2023 4:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 86November 28, 2023 5:21 PM

R86 It’s not really about slavery. It’s that people are looking for an excuse to be failures and looking for someone to blame.

by Anonymousreply 87November 28, 2023 5:24 PM

I'm over it. Good luck, black people.

by Anonymousreply 88November 28, 2023 5:31 PM

Some of you people are really touchy about an issue that probably doesn’t affect you personally. Breathe!

by Anonymousreply 89November 28, 2023 6:41 PM

R89 The author of the article is the touchy one.

by Anonymousreply 90November 28, 2023 7:18 PM

I heard that she almost had a publishing contract but they “renigged” her offer.

by Anonymousreply 91November 28, 2023 7:57 PM

Heard this from the woman who does my hair:

BLM is funded by white rich people to create division. I have to say that’s the first time I have ever heard such a thing. She got that from her black neighbor. Interestingly, she is center right politically, though mostly right wing.

by Anonymousreply 92November 28, 2023 8:00 PM

That's ridiculous, R92, but I have to say progressive White people in this country seem to have a penchant for masochistic self-hate, shame and guilt of all kinds, not to mention high levels of anxiety concerning things that have nothing to do with them.

by Anonymousreply 93November 28, 2023 9:27 PM

R92, Is she the same woman who said:

"I remember my grandmother saying to me: I don't care what they tell you at school, Cleopatra was Black."

by Anonymousreply 94November 28, 2023 9:35 PM

I hate when these activists use the term "people of color" becuase it almost always specifically refers to American black people and nobody else.

by Anonymousreply 95November 28, 2023 9:50 PM

[quote] Don’t have dreadlocks if you’re not Black, just don’t. Beyond being offensive, it’s just not suited to your hair type. Do literally anything else with your hair.

Why is this "offensive"? What's more offensive is the comment "it's just not suited to your hair type". It's hilarious that this author says not to comment on black women's weaves, wigs, etc. but has no problem telling white people what kind of hair they can have.

by Anonymousreply 96November 28, 2023 9:54 PM
