Package thieving season is here

Angry letter posted on our package vestibule because someone took packages that didn’t belong to them. We have an Amazon locker but it’s overflow season and packages are being left like this.

Has anyone ever had their packages stolen from a “safe” place by one of your neighbors?

I'm very lucky to live in a large urban apartment building that's low rent but also locked from the outside and occupied by really nice tenants who don't steal other people's shit. They also retrieve their clothes timely from the communal washers and dryers! Now I don't have receive all my packages at my workpkace so that my boss finds out about my penchant for Peanuts holiday videos and candy corn addiction.

I love my cool neighbors!

Move to the exurbs or use package lockers, folks.

Get a Doorman like any other half-decent building.

Paid a fortune for an “upscale” apt in SF with security and locked mailroom with code. Packages stolen on the daily and it went on for the two years I lived there. I’m still on their FB group and it’s still happening. Moved to a building with a concierge, much cheaper, and not one stolen package in 6 months. .

It's not just the neighbors - according to my Nextdoor site, there are people who follow the amazon and FedEx vans and grab the packages as soon as they are delivered! And they don't care if they're on Ring - videos are posted every single day.

Thankfully it has never happened to me - all I have delivered is my blood pressure med, and it fits inside the mailbox.

I’ve had stuff misdelivered and now it’s never returned to me. Never used to be like that here.

We once had our kitty litter stolen because it came in an unmarked box.

The cat did it!

They thought he was a goner, but the cat came back—the very next day.

🎶 He he just couldn't stay away 🎶, R8.

Only one "he" needed there at R9.

I’d pay $ to see the fuckers expression who steals the Amazon box off of my porch only to open it and find a big package of piss pads.

Ugh. Just last night we had a big neighborhood text chain that started "Fed Ex claims it delivered a package earlier, but it's not on my porch. Could you check yours and see if it was misdelivered?"

More than a dozen responses about porch thieves until the originator of the text wrote "Sorry, everyone. I checked my porch again and it was under a chair."

lol if they steal off a DLers porch they might get a dildo or a golden girls shirt

This happens more than people realize, R5, especially after a new gaming console is released.

Last week, Amazon delivered a package 5:54 AM. I walked downstairs at 6:30, saw an open box thru the window, and expected it to be empty, but the would-be thief left the contents behind. I guess an archival photo storage box isn't worth stealing.

No. I started renting a P.O. Box for my business. I get all stuff delivered to the Post Office. If it's a larger item, the PO will put it in a parcel locker. If it's huge, they'll store it in the back and I pick it up during operating hours.

My online ordering is a lot less than it used to be, and I stop entirely from November through January or so. This is the time when the delivery services start using seasonal help. I'm just tired of all the misdeliveries, and it only gets worse during the holiday season. Fortunately, I've never had a package stolen and I've always been able to track the packages down, but I just don't need the hassle anymore. I just buy in the stores or have items delivered to the store for pickup. I only use Amazon for things that I absolutely can't get elsewhere and will fit in the lockers, even though the order gets delayed if the locker is full.

My shopping moratorium is usually right before Thanksgiving to early January. This fall, I've needed more stuff than usual b/c I started a new job, though.

There are packages left for days outside the homes of my neighbors and no one takes them. I've never had a package stolen from outside my home. I would never want to live in area that doesn't have a low crime rate.

I have the opposite problem. Amazon is Amazwrong. They constantly deliver to the wrong address in my neighborhood. There are about five of us in the neighborhood who all know way too much about what we order.

by Anonymousreply 19November 19, 2023 12:55 AM

More than one UPS driver has taken pix of package, then picked it up to take home.

by Anonymousreply 20November 19, 2023 1:16 AM

Most buildings that have a 'package room' with locker(s) have a camera that shows every person who took a package. In my high rise condo building if someone steals a package it's not long before the concierge staff have a good idea who took what.

by Anonymousreply 21November 19, 2023 1:25 AM

If people have a problem with thieves they can have their packages delivered to the Amazon lockers set up at various business. If you have an issue like OP has, you can choose which locker location you want your order delivered to.

by Anonymousreply 22November 19, 2023 1:51 AM

A PO box is limited; you can only receive USPS deliveries. Got to get a rented mailbox at a UPS store or similar that accept all carrier deliveries.

by Anonymousreply 23November 19, 2023 3:18 AM

R23, I have a PO Box and can get UPS and FedEx deliveries there.
