How the fuck did Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” get so many Grammy nominations?

Is this a joke???

How the Grammy’s have fallen. 20 years ago it would probably get a Best Pop Vocal Performance nomination but that’s it. Record of the Year? Song of the Year? Album of the Year? Gone are the days when artists like Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder and Fleetwood Mac were nominated. Now it’s Olivia Rodrigo and Miley Cyrus.

“Flowers” by Miley getting all those nods is laughable too. It sounds like a song created for social media.

OP I was thinking the same thing. It’s a decent pop song but song of the year. And it’s more the arrangement of the production than the lyrics. What a sad state of affairs.

She's a Disney chick pushed by a major label company.

Don't look too deeply into Grammy nominations OP. I worked in the industry and it's all fueled by politics and connections, nothing to do with the actual music.

Olivia Rodrigo is so dull and boring. I guess I would need to be a moody 16 year old girl to enjoy her music.

by Anonymousreply 3November 10, 2023 4:21 PM

Easy there granny. Relax and get your noon nap in and then maybe you can crank up the victrola and listen to some Rudy Valle records. Meanwhile the rest of us will live in 2023.

by Anonymousreply 4November 10, 2023 4:31 PM

She was very elusive about rumors it was written about Taylor Swift, while seeming to enjoy the drama, so it probably got buzz that way.

by Anonymousreply 5November 10, 2023 4:35 PM

It’s a grievance song in a woe-is-me era

by Anonymousreply 6November 10, 2023 4:35 PM

[quote] Gone are the days when artists like Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder and Fleetwood Mac were nominated.

Do artists of that quality even exist anymore?

by Anonymousreply 7November 10, 2023 4:48 PM

Bolivia Rodriguez is my favorite recording artist!

by Anonymousreply 8November 10, 2023 4:59 PM

I haven't bothered to watch the Grammy Awards in at least 8 years. It's basically a shit show of corporate crap and second level singers.

by Anonymousreply 9November 10, 2023 5:00 PM

The real question is why does Taylor Shit continue to get nominated for mediocre songs? All her music sounds the same and it's so boring and generic.

by Anonymousreply 10November 10, 2023 5:56 PM

Err no no awards for Queen Bey?

I'm glad to see Miley with so many noms, I dig that song - Flowers

Looks like its a battle between Taylor and Olivia

by Anonymousreply 11November 10, 2023 5:58 PM

Miley is the epitome of bad contemporary music .

by Anonymousreply 12November 10, 2023 6:00 PM

"Flowers" is the best pop song of the year, and that is faint praise.

by Anonymousreply 13November 10, 2023 6:03 PM

I'm old.

by Anonymousreply 14November 10, 2023 6:20 PM

R11 Beyoncé didn’t release new music this year. Her album came out last year and she won numerous Grammys for it earlier this year.

by Anonymousreply 15November 10, 2023 6:29 PM

“Flowers” sounds like a social media experiment song and Miley’s voice sounds terrible.

Dua Lipa also received many noms for that Barbie song. Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 16November 10, 2023 6:30 PM

When commercial pop offers nothing good you get these noms

by Anonymousreply 17November 10, 2023 7:13 PM

Just read that Taylor Swift is now the most nominated artist of all time in the songwriting category. Astounding.

by Anonymousreply 18November 10, 2023 7:34 PM

R5 The song is about a man you dumb cunt.

by Anonymousreply 19November 10, 2023 8:08 PM

Oh thanks R15. I guess I'm way behind the times

by Anonymousreply 20November 10, 2023 10:26 PM

Loved how at the last Grammy Bonnie Rait won for song of the year shocking everyone, it was well deserved. I hope Jon Baptiste does the same thing at next year's Grammy

by Anonymousreply 21November 10, 2023 10:32 PM

Raitt*

It sounds like an early 80s throwback to me.

by Anonymousreply 23November 11, 2023 1:38 AM

Rodrigo is awful. The chorus in that “Good for You” song makes me want to hang myself. Just awful and grating, from the production to her voice. I hope Lana Del Rey finally wins this year. Her album deserves it. They’ve fucked her over so bad in years past. Remember when Billie Eilish swept almost every category that year? Asinine.

by Anonymousreply 24November 11, 2023 1:54 AM

--She checked off all the right, different virtue-signaling nomination boxes...???

by Anonymousreply 25November 11, 2023 2:04 AM

There is absolutely no reason to even look at who was nominated for the Grammys anymore. It's all disposable, sound-alike garbage. Beyonce having all those Grammys when Fleetwood Mac has won exactly ONE is the biggest joke in music.

by Anonymousreply 26November 11, 2023 2:11 AM

I'm glad that n word spewing redneck Wallen was snubbed

by Anonymousreply 27November 11, 2023 2:58 AM

Did they nominate a man for any of the major awards besides Jon Batiste?

by Anonymousreply 28November 11, 2023 3:19 AM

Almost all women nominated this year

by Anonymousreply 29November 11, 2023 3:23 AM

I didn’t even know that Del Rey had a new album out and I’m a fan! What blog or service do I need to follow? What I like about the nominations is that it gives me a chance to see what’s currently popular. I know a Grammy nomination isn’t the best barometer but how else can I find out?

by Anonymousreply 30November 12, 2023 8:49 PM

Happy for Lana. Another very good album from her.

by Anonymousreply 31November 12, 2023 9:22 PM

R30, if you use a service like Apple Music or Spotify, it will notify you of new and upcoming releases by artists you follow. Or you can periodically check in on their official social media accounts (including YouTube).

Country singer Tyler Childers is nominated for Best Video for this gay-themed production starring DL fave Colton Hayes.
