Chaka Kahn's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction didn't go so great

I feel for her.

She seemed drunk or high, slurring words, dropping lyrics.

She looked beautiful and thin, though!

I guess her close pal Pat Robertson's recent death affected her more than others might have thought.

She's aged a bit. It did seem like she was just mumbling through some of it. Glad they honored her though. What a force.

She fasted and then went vegan due to heath issues

ESSENCE.com: I wouldn’t be a good journalist if I didn’t ask you about your amazing weight-loss. KHAN: Oh, thank you. You know, I had diabetes type two and high blood pressure. I adopted my 10-year-old granddaughter last year. I have to be there for her. I knew I couldn’t go out like this so I just fasted for like a month, then I went vegan and went off meats and all dairy and anything with eyes. If I have a craving for a little baked fish or something I might eat it. But that’s about it. I’ve mostly been doing a lot of high-protein foods and a lot of vegetables and exercise.

ESSENCE.com: Vegan? That’s quite a transition. KHAN: Well not for me because I go back up and I’m an herbalist, so I’ve been going through this since I was 20, on and off. I felt like I needed to heal my body so I would just fast and eat no meat, no dairy. I’ve never been a fan of meat, dairy and sugar. And when I developed diabetes last year I said, “ Oh okay I’m not going to be here long. A change is coming.” So I started getting my mind set, then I started the fasting. Now it’s just a way of life not for me.

ESSENCE.com: What’s your exercise of choice? KHAN: I don’t like exercising at all. I guess if I had one of choice it would be walking. I do not run and I’m losing like on average about five pounds a month. I’ve lost 60 pounds since October.

But I love Chaka. I FEEL for her. I still LOVE her.

Clearly she celebrated a bit before the interview. In one of the classic DL threads of embarrassing live performances, there was one of Chaka being held up by Aretha while Chaka belted out lyrics that only she seemed to be understand, much less know how to “sing”. So, this is not a unique phenomenon, and I’m here for it only because is so entertaining. God how I wish someone could find/resurrect that video again!

It was the fourth closest occurrence of someone precisely speaking the words of God I’ve ever seen….

She went to rehab for fentanyl in 2016 after Prince died.

Hope she's not on it again, because that'll take her out way faster than diabetes.

Isn't there a performance where like Etta James or someone is like holding her upright but yet she still gives a hell of a performance when she had to sing.

Anyway hopefully she just had a little light fun she's not into anything serious.

Gurl at this point it's no longer a Chaka performance if she doesn't slur her speech, skip lyrics, etc!

Chaka has said she doesn't like her live songs to sound identical to the records, and its even worse now that she up there in years and on and off drugs or alcohol. She has also never been great at interviews, she has to feel really comfortable.

I have to give it to Chaka though, she is one of the last standing artists who hit it big in the 70s/80s, and I won't be surprised if she is the last. Most of her peers are long gone and she is still out here looking pretty good.
