And what kind of legislation should Congress propose to put and end to it?
When did "Smashed Potatoes" instead of "Mashed Potatoes" become a thing?

Smashed potatoes are not the same as mashed potatoes. Smashed are crispy. And yet somewhat smashed.
LOL Congress doesn't belong in your oven.

Yeah, I know that R1. But I was looking at some Thanksgiving recipes online and many mashed potato dishes used "smashed" instead. I assume this can be traced back to some mommy blogger.

Maybe they're the lazy shitty mashed potatoes with the skin still on them.
[quote]Smashed potatoes are cooked and mashed with their skins on, which dramatically cuts down their prep time.
Just what I thought.

And when all else fails blame a woman OP.

I would assume that the key difference between "smashed" and "mashed" is the texture.
Mashed are supposed to be smooth with no lumps - people use food processors and hand mixers to achieve the right consistency. "Smashed" are crushed, but the lumps are left. That would be my guess.
R5's link has them listed as both "smashed" in the headline and "mashed" in the subhead, so who knows where the hell those people were headed.
