I'm surprised she settled for Gayle. Did O turn her down? "Enough with the fucking painted mikes!"

by Anonymousreply 1November 5, 2023 9:08 PM

Did she make a plug for her book singing memoirees

by Anonymousreply 2November 5, 2023 9:11 PM

She should only do radio interviews now.

by Anonymousreply 3November 5, 2023 9:13 PM

She hoards malls in her basement.

by Anonymousreply 4November 5, 2023 9:14 PM

Boring.

by Anonymousreply 5November 5, 2023 9:21 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 6November 5, 2023 9:25 PM

She needs to stage a fight with Jason on TikTok to boost Gen Z sales.

by Anonymousreply 7November 5, 2023 9:31 PM

She now looks like a victim of a fire who had to undergo facial reconstruction and skin grafts.

by Anonymousreply 8November 5, 2023 9:46 PM

I wonder how cloning her dog worked out.

by Anonymousreply 9November 5, 2023 9:48 PM

I still think she's beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 10November 5, 2023 9:49 PM

She’s 81. She seems great.

by Anonymousreply 11November 5, 2023 9:56 PM

The introductory segment by Mo Rocco really captures what was incredible about her career. Wesley Morris is also very charming when talking about her work.

Stop posting while high.

by Anonymousreply 14November 5, 2023 10:32 PM

Does she include the cock sizes of each lover?

by Anonymousreply 15November 5, 2023 10:37 PM

She actually thinks this interview is endearing? Good lord. Delusional.

by Anonymousreply 16November 5, 2023 10:45 PM

R15, she makes out that she had a romantic relationship with Prince Charles… because she believes he flirted with her. I doubt she’s slept with more than two people.

by Anonymousreply 17November 5, 2023 10:46 PM

Jon Peters’ beer can cock got her through the ‘70s.

by Anonymousreply 18November 6, 2023 12:30 AM

r10 = Barbra herself

by Anonymousreply 19November 6, 2023 12:49 AM

Wasn't she shtupping Mandy Patinkin during Yentl? And wasn't there Jon Peters? So she was married to Elliot GOuld and Brolin, but she wasn't dormant in between, R17. And Prince Charles probably thought he was being charming towards her, wth his jugers and Ichabod Crane features.

by Anonymousreply 20November 6, 2023 12:53 AM

"with his jug ears..."

by Anonymousreply 21November 6, 2023 12:54 AM

I like at 9:20 how Gayle held up her book so we could see all the marked pages.

by Anonymousreply 22November 6, 2023 1:05 AM

The audiobook version, read by Barbra is FORTY FOUR HOURS LONG!

by Anonymousreply 23November 6, 2023 1:09 AM

It’s not hoarding, it’s a collection. It’s very well organized and displayed.

by Anonymousreply 24November 6, 2023 1:14 AM

I admire Barbra, she’s a humanitarian. She’s an outspoken liberal and I love her.

by Anonymousreply 25November 6, 2023 1:16 AM

[quote] It’s not hoarding, it’s a collection.

Of houses?

by Anonymousreply 26November 6, 2023 1:19 AM

Josh Brolin is soo lucky that he gets to wake up, roll over and hit that every morning.

by Anonymousreply 27November 6, 2023 1:21 AM

Looks like her basement Mall hasn't changed at all in 20 years. That's kind of creepy.

by Anonymousreply 28November 6, 2023 1:24 AM

R27 his stepmom?

by Anonymousreply 29November 6, 2023 1:38 AM

R24, I Concur. But I also get the 'Miss Ross' thing, so i know the apologist tag well.

by Anonymousreply 30November 6, 2023 1:41 AM

She’s not a shopaholic and hoarder- she’s a collector who happens to be very wealthy and created a folly for some of her collections. By the way, at least twice she auctioned some of her collections the the tune of double digit millions and given the proceeds to charity and to fund her foundation. What she really is, is a very smart woman who knows how to use money. Much of her art collection is bequeathed to museums- and at times she lets them borrow pieces. Morons on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 31November 6, 2023 1:56 AM

No she doesn’t R17. You’re full of you-know-what.

by Anonymousreply 32November 6, 2023 1:57 AM

She is DEFINITELY milking the connection to Charles.

by Anonymousreply 33November 6, 2023 2:01 AM

R20 She went out with Don Johnson for a hot minute in the late 1980s. I recall Michael Musto making a crack about her huge schnoz and his big schlong.

by Anonymousreply 34November 6, 2023 2:13 AM

Good interview.

by Anonymousreply 35November 6, 2023 2:28 AM

Oh, honey...

There were times in 1964 where that bitch slept with more than two people between the matinee and the evening performance.

by Anonymousreply 37November 6, 2023 3:42 AM

Is Gayle on Ozempic? She looked drained.

by Anonymousreply 38November 6, 2023 3:43 AM

I think you mean Ozemper* R38

by Anonymousreply 39November 6, 2023 3:51 AM

80 year olds should have more wrinkles. She's spooky and kind of pathetic to create that wax museum face.

by Anonymousreply 40November 6, 2023 3:56 AM

The piece at r12 is interesting for noting that when Streisand was making a first impression on audiences she was singing material written and popularized decades earlier. In the middle of the rock era and during the "British Invasion", she was a throwback except she was already in league with the most extraordinary vocal talents of any era.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2023 3:57 AM

Gayle King is the very definition of a mediocrity but Barbra was fun.

by Anonymousreply 42November 6, 2023 3:59 AM

I had hopes Babs would finally spill in this new autobiography, but it was same old shit in this interview,

by Anonymousreply 43November 6, 2023 4:02 AM

Gayle promised to have Timmy delivered to Babs after the show (she lied).

by Anonymousreply 44November 6, 2023 4:07 AM

That crazy bitch had her goons try to grab me, but I'm used to wiggling away from grasping old people.

by Anonymousreply 45November 6, 2023 4:12 AM

I wish her basement mall was a bit more updated. Is that what malls looked like in the 50's?

by Anonymousreply 46November 6, 2023 4:32 AM

I must admit, Gayle is a good interviewer.

by Anonymousreply 47November 6, 2023 4:39 AM

I wish she was able to keep all her Sharaff and Beaton costumes. I know she has a few. She would never look so good again.

It was in the 70s she started singing muck. But it what was people wanted and it made her fortune.

by Anonymousreply 48November 6, 2023 5:22 AM

Oh my God, the moment when Barbra shows Gayle King that $10 velvet dress she bought at a thrift store!

This a classic rich person’s way of getting some other entity to pay for the proper storage, insuring and security of the rich person’s art collection. It’s how the Rockefellers started the MoMa, right there in their backyard off of Fifth Avenue.

by Anonymousreply 54November 6, 2023 3:47 PM

Gayle's face on the reactions is heaven. You can tell she's like, "Am I really dealing with this crazy old person?"

by Anonymousreply 55November 6, 2023 3:54 PM

Thank you, R12.

Great segment, and Wesley Morris is wonderful. God, that man is hot. He's handsome. He's fills that shirt out quite nicely. But what really makes him hot is that he's interesting. He knows music, and he knows what made Barbra a legend!

by Anonymousreply 56November 6, 2023 4:00 PM

Yes, R56, I was most impressed with Mr. Morris.

by Anonymousreply 57November 6, 2023 5:37 PM

Mo Rocca was totally into it.

by Anonymousreply 58November 6, 2023 5:49 PM

Yes, I so loved the introductory segment with Mo and Wesley' commentary and seeing all those incredible old tapes and photos of the beginning of Barbra's career. I was a huge fan as a highly precocious pre-teen as early as 1963 but was done with her by the time she did Hello Dolly! and that awful What About Today album?

Sad for me to go back and see what the early attraction/fascination was and what became of her. And that mall....! Oy.

by Anonymousreply 59November 6, 2023 5:50 PM

It looks like she directed it. Half of the segment is just old clips and photos. Half the book is her going over old slights, critiques and untruths. She's obsessed with herself.

by Anonymousreply 60November 6, 2023 6:09 PM

Control.

by Anonymousreply 61November 6, 2023 6:27 PM

Ok this was hysterical. Gayle was clearly freaked out and Barbra was like that crazy lady at a yard sale.

The best was Barbra wanting Gayle to touch the purple fabric.

Streisand was like, “let the magic touch you” and Gayle was like….um…okay?

by Anonymousreply 62November 6, 2023 6:33 PM

But that velvet is soft like buttah!

by Anonymousreply 63November 6, 2023 6:38 PM

[quote]80 year olds should have more wrinkles. She's spooky and kind of pathetic to create that wax museum face.

She does, look around her mouth and eyes but this is a professional interview. There are twenty people behind that camera, make-up, lighting trying to erase 81 years. She looks good, not like the alien Joan Rivers died resembling.

by Anonymousreply 64November 6, 2023 6:56 PM

[quote] Check out her "mall"of clothes and stuff she bought

I too am a shopaholic with clothes, but I do use most of them eventually, at least once. I need clothes for every season, function, mood, and temperature possibility. It adds up.

by Anonymousreply 65November 6, 2023 7:43 PM

The stuff in her mall are actually quite beautiful. She keeps good care of them.

by Anonymousreply 66November 6, 2023 8:58 PM

I couldn't watch the interview though, I've heard this shit many times before. Who the fuck cares at this point. Is she so clueless that she forgets every time that she's told the same fucking stories for years.

I'm sorry that her father died when she was 18 months. What is easy to forget is that it was in the middle of WW2 and people were losing sons, fathers and husbands by the thousands every month. Not sure why her lose is so unique.

by Anonymousreply 67November 6, 2023 9:09 PM

Having hunky Brolin on hand for 25 years seems more than sufficient compensation for the unrelenting slights, untruths, and critiques she has been subjected to.

by Anonymousreply 68November 6, 2023 9:38 PM

R68, Brolin claims he was celibate for three years before he hooked up with Streisand.

Celibate or impotent?

by Anonymousreply 69November 6, 2023 9:56 PM

Brolin looks really good!

by Anonymousreply 70November 6, 2023 10:39 PM

She probably still gets him rock hard, r69, when she comes strutting out in her Doris ensemble.

by Anonymousreply 71November 6, 2023 10:45 PM

Did I see the purple dress from Hello, Dolly! in her clothes collection? I thought she auctioned off a lot of her film costumes.

by Anonymousreply 81November 7, 2023 9:35 PM

It goes without saying, so I'll say it: Barbra's first records are thrilling! It all goes south when she met the Bergmans.

by Anonymousreply 82November 7, 2023 9:42 PM

It all went south when Barbra started perming her hair.

by Anonymousreply 83November 7, 2023 10:06 PM

Dying to know if Barbra settles the score with Anne Francis, now that she's dead and can't respond.

Her basement mall is batshit insane. She's so proud of it, but it makes her look crazy.

by Anonymousreply 85November 7, 2023 10:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 86November 7, 2023 11:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 87November 7, 2023 11:02 PM

She looks like the Cowardly Lion.

by Anonymousreply 88November 7, 2023 11:04 PM

I agree the plastic surgery is bad, but the mall is a dream come true for every collector who has to constantly figure out how to display, or at least where to put your crap.

I know to non-collectors it all seems bat-shit insane - and objectively I can agree, but I also just bought another vintage TWA poster I have no room to hang.

To have the resources to both buy whatever strikes your fancy, and to properly display it is enviable.

by Anonymousreply 89November 7, 2023 11:22 PM

Where is all that shit in her underground mall gonna go when she dies?

by Anonymousreply 90November 7, 2023 11:28 PM

But what's the point of having all that beautiful shit if you have to store it in the basement? I suppose she makes all of her guests come down, have a (guarded) look around and stroke the velvet dress.

by Anonymousreply 91November 7, 2023 11:33 PM

I'd be pissed if she died and I was one of her heirs that had to clean up her hoarding mess. Oh well, they'd be loaded anyway so they could just hire somebody to load up the dumpsters.

by Anonymousreply 92November 7, 2023 11:36 PM

No R54, when bequeathed, yes tax deduction for charity. But if she chose to keep and leave in her estate, it would reap much more value to her estate. Loaning is purely altruistic. Do you really suppose people with collections like Streisand don’t know how to take care of and house their art? Lol. You don’t have a clue. FYI, I know these things which most reasonable informed do as well- first hand. I spend thousands on maintaining my best stuff- I know she does too as does anyone with valuable art.

by Anonymousreply 93November 7, 2023 11:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 98November 8, 2023 12:06 AM

Streisand was early to the Art Deco market and collected truckloads. She tired of it and sold most at a handsome profit.

by Anonymousreply 99November 8, 2023 12:10 AM

Her decorative art tastes has devolved into very treacly aesthetics. Her "ye olde towne shopping street" in her carpenter gothic ? ersatz farm manor ? "estate" is the pits.

by Anonymousreply 101November 8, 2023 12:18 AM

R91 - I understand your point, but there are basements and then there are basements.

Her home is already furnished and decorated with antiques and art. She also collects, as we saw, dolls and vintage clothes (I know there’s more) - setting up themed areas is a a great way to organize and display them.

I think calling it a mall instead of a gallery is a bit silly and the conceit of a faux New England street of shops, as opposed to just a series of rooms, is twee, but it is well done. (Her whole ersatz New England Malibu compound is really twee, but again, well executed). I imagine it’s in the basement because the house is already pretty large.

If she’d built another building on the property to house some of these collections I think it would come across as less weird, but sunlight is often not great for vintage items, so the basement location does make some practical sense.

by Anonymousreply 102November 8, 2023 12:28 AM

How tall is Gayle King?

Barbra looked like a garden gnome standing next to her.

by Anonymousreply 103November 8, 2023 8:26 PM

R103, I saw Barbra when she wasn't on and wearing flats. She was shockingly petite. I was expecting a 9 foot tall Jewish goddess. I think she's like 5'5". I would have walked right by her if I hadn't know it was her. In fact, I was like two feet away from her an didn't realize it was her for a few seconds. She was filming Prince of Tides in Grand Central.

by Anonymousreply 104November 8, 2023 8:33 PM

Did you all happen to notice that Gayle King was wearing flats in the interview?

Gee, I wonder whose idea that was?

She says her Star is Born perm wasn't done by Jon himself, but by Soonie Paik, a stylist at his salon who still does her hair.

Those are indeed two admirable aspects of her life and personality, which arguably go a long way toward balancing all the awful stuff.

by Anonymousreply 107November 12, 2023 10:05 PM

I'm not a huge fan of Barbra's work, though I do like her late 70s/early 80s pop stuff, I wish she'd done more of that. I love "Prisoner," which was the theme song from the craptastic Eyes Of Laura Mars, starring Miss Dunaway.

Like the above poster, I have always admired her politics and how outspoken for liberal causes she is. She done a lot of good work in that area. And she's always been very supportive of gay men.

by Anonymousreply 110November 15, 2023 12:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 111November 15, 2023 1:27 PM

I love Barbra. However, she always tells the story about when she first met James Brolin, she asked him, "Who fucked up your hair?" Which is rude as hell even though she says she was just being truthful. (Barbra dear, some things are better left unsaid.)

But continuing on that truthful theme, someone should ask Barbra, "Who fucked up your hair?"
