Greatest Film of All Time?

OP, I have never heard about any of those films you've listed. They were obviously flops, since they haven't gone down in history as classics.
This immortal jewel of the Seventh Art, on the on the other hand...

OP has the taste of an ambitious young frau living in Des Moines whose movie club meets every Wednesday nights and watches very old films from the 1990s.

Well, what choices would you pick if you can do so much better?

I picked Star Wars because no other film in history has been as popular and has inspired such a huge shift in our lexicon. Every single person on the planet knows who Darth Vader is. It changed the way we played as kids, the toys we played with, and inspired so many people to go into filmmaking (including me).
It wasn't the best film on your list, but the greatest? Yes. I would say it is.

[italic]Lace[/italic], of course.
I voted for [italic]the Godfather[/italic]. I would certainly consider that in the top 10.

No other film has inspired so many threads and so much commentary on DL.
Not even Dawson’s oeuvre.

Filmmaking peaked at Battleship Potemkin. Been downhill since.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 4, 2023 9:34 PM |
The Wizard of Oz.
I've grown to learn "Star Wars" is nothing but a cheap knockoff of Oz. Only incels and immature fanbois still declare "Star Wars" as the greatest film of all time.
