Greatest Film of All Time?

What does DL consider the greatest film of all time?

by Anonymousreply 32November 4, 2023 10:25 PM

OP, I have never heard about any of those films you've listed. They were obviously flops, since they haven't gone down in history as classics.

This immortal jewel of the Seventh Art, on the on the other hand...

Buck would have never made such a bad poll.

by Anonymousreply 7November 4, 2023 7:24 PM

2001: A Space Odyssey. The visuals, the music and very early AI.

by Anonymousreply 8November 4, 2023 7:29 PM

The Wizard of Oz (I voted for the Godfathers but)

by Anonymousreply 9November 4, 2023 7:33 PM

OP has the taste of an ambitious young frau living in Des Moines whose movie club meets every Wednesday nights and watches very old films from the 1990s.

by Anonymousreply 10November 4, 2023 7:34 PM

Well, what choices would you pick if you can do so much better?

by Anonymousreply 11November 4, 2023 7:38 PM

Booty Call

by Anonymousreply 12November 4, 2023 7:40 PM

Is the Batman movie on purpose?

"Fanny and Alexander"

by Anonymousreply 18November 4, 2023 8:38 PM

I picked Star Wars because no other film in history has been as popular and has inspired such a huge shift in our lexicon. Every single person on the planet knows who Darth Vader is. It changed the way we played as kids, the toys we played with, and inspired so many people to go into filmmaking (including me).

It wasn't the best film on your list, but the greatest? Yes. I would say it is.

by Anonymousreply 19November 4, 2023 8:43 PM

[italic]Lace[/italic], of course.

I voted for [italic]the Godfather[/italic]. I would certainly consider that in the top 10.

by Anonymousreply 20November 4, 2023 9:15 PM

The Dark Knight??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

by Anonymousreply 21November 4, 2023 9:20 PM

No other film has inspired so many threads and so much commentary on DL.

Not even Dawson’s oeuvre.

Filmmaking peaked at Battleship Potemkin. Been downhill since.

by Anonymousreply 24November 4, 2023 9:34 PM

The Wizard of Oz.

I've grown to learn "Star Wars" is nothing but a cheap knockoff of Oz. Only incels and immature fanbois still declare "Star Wars" as the greatest film of all time.

by Anonymousreply 25November 4, 2023 9:42 PM

Xanadu. Kira the roller skating muse that inspires an album cover designer to find a sugardaddy & open a disco. But , sure, OP - The Dark Knight.

by Anonymousreply 26November 4, 2023 9:44 PM

R19 Mary!

by Anonymousreply 27November 4, 2023 9:46 PM

Dark Knight has no place in this poll.

The Dark Knight?! OP, put down the bong.

by Anonymousreply 30November 4, 2023 9:50 PM

The Rules of the Game. I can't imagine how there can be any discussion.

by Anonymousreply 31November 4, 2023 9:53 PM

Andrei Rublev.
