Queers for Palestine: wokeness gone berserk!

I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but seriously, WTF!

by Anonymousreply 115November 4, 2023 9:59 AM

These people will be the first people to be thrown off buildings in Palestine.

by Anonymousreply 1November 3, 2023 4:03 AM

Complete morons.

I mean, it'd be one thing if they were simply advocating for a two-state solution and peaceful coexistence.

But they're not.

They're siding with virulently racist, bigoted, anti-LGBT fundamentalists that want to genocide both Jewish people and gay people. Like seriously. WTF.

by Anonymousreply 2November 3, 2023 4:03 AM

You can’t PINK WAS Colonialism? WTF does that even mean?

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2023 4:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2023 4:07 AM

They. Are. Morons.

by Anonymousreply 5November 3, 2023 4:07 AM

These woke fucks are really twisting into pretzels now. They all have an easy life in the US being keyboard activists and wouldn’t last a day in Palestine.

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2023 4:09 AM

Emotionally-driven drivel.

"There is no way to interpret this slogan and the surrounding leftist fervor except as a signal of support not merely for Palestine, but specifically for Hamas,"

Amazing, the author is capable of making illogical statements.

An illogician supporting logic! What a wonderful situation!

Alternatively, we can try to apply the author's type of 'logic' on themselves. After all, if the author thinks this 'logic' is true, then surely it must at least apply to them.

Perhaps we can infer that the author supports Queers for Palestine. Why else would the author give the movement publicity? I had never heard of the movement until now. Wonderful that the author supports it! Even non supporters can rejoice at the author finding something to advertise in this world.

Perhaps we can also infer that the author believes everything in Quillette since the author is publishing here. Boy oh boy, that is a tough position to be in, to believe such a wide array of view points!

It is a good thing I don't subscribe to the type of illogic of the author, otherwise my life sure would be tougher.

by Anonymousreply 7November 3, 2023 4:18 AM

OP and author of the posted article — both of whom clearly possess a low IQ — fail to understand that there is not any incongruity.

A LGBTQ+ can favor Palestine self rule without being welcome there. I can support private clubs for lovers of the color orange, without being welcome there, as I am not one. If they want to keep me out or tell me to leave that is fine. Edit: I recognize that the analogy is not perfect, but the concept is simple. One can value the lives of people we disagree with. Someone against abortion can value the life of someone walking in to get an abortion, while still considering them a murderer for example. And, can still say "I support that person's right to vote."

^ copied astute response to the article

by Anonymousreply 8November 3, 2023 4:22 AM

There is no self-rule option for Palestine. They want Israel to not exist nor its current inhabitants. You should understand how the religion of Palestine works and how its citizens think. All of you embracing Islam because you’re “woke” and trying to avoid being called “racist” are going to ruin Western Civilization. What do you think would happen if Israel backed away? You think Hamas will stop? What is your solution? It would be great to see an actual response.

by Anonymousreply 9November 3, 2023 4:29 AM

R8 that response is incoherent.

by Anonymousreply 10November 3, 2023 4:30 AM

OP, there are areas here in the United States that are still hotbeds of white supremacy and the KKK. Assuming you aren’t one yourself (maybe we should just assume you are like because we feel like it?), should we bomb those areas too?

by Anonymousreply 11November 3, 2023 4:30 AM

R9, there is no “religion” of Palestine, you retarded fuckface.

by Anonymousreply 12November 3, 2023 4:32 AM

R11 false equivalency

by Anonymousreply 13November 3, 2023 4:32 AM

R10, which part of that response was incoherent? Or do you lack the mental ability to understand a very basic idea? That one can value the lives of people we disagree with for whatever reason?

Go pinkwash your decrepit ass.

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2023 4:33 AM

The vast majority of the population of Palestine (93%) is Sunni Muslim. Although there is a Christian minority (6% of the population), freedom of worship, especially in Gaza under Hamas rule, is limited.

by Anonymousreply 15November 3, 2023 4:33 AM

R13, and yet you cannot explain why. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 16November 3, 2023 4:34 AM

Are they trying to represent all of us in front of the whole world, like that all gays are pro-Palestine or something? Why is letting everybody know about their sexuality so important in order for them to support Palestine? Like. I don’t see “straights for Palestine”. What gives them the right to talk on behalf of the whole gay and lesbian community? Are we in a cult, brotherhood or other kind of organization where my sexuality is being used by some groups for political purposes without my consent? Could I sue them if I feel that they are including me in their political movement without my consent? It is mind boggling what this whole “lgbtq+ nonbinary god’s knows what else” has become.

by Anonymousreply 17November 3, 2023 4:34 AM

Wow! Some of you Yasser Kweens have really drank the Kool-Aid. Yaassss!!!

by Anonymousreply 18November 3, 2023 4:35 AM

R18. Oh please. The vast majority of faghots and scene queens on my social media who HAVE posted something about this conflict have been either explicitly or vaguely pro-Israel. The pro-Palestinian ones are by far the exception.

by Anonymousreply 22November 3, 2023 4:46 AM

Is Cheryl's pussy pro or anti?

by Anonymousreply 23November 3, 2023 4:47 AM

Being pro-Israel is still the more socially acceptable position among the scene queen types. And you know those queens are all about Israeli D / TLV pride / etc. They will compromise their moral compass and basically anything to protest their social standing and sexual purchasing power.

Among gays, you see more of the pro-Palestinian support from the academics and intellectual types (who I generally don’t consider as in the same aforementioned category).

by Anonymousreply 24November 3, 2023 4:47 AM

Protect, not protest^

by Anonymousreply 25November 3, 2023 4:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 27November 3, 2023 4:53 AM

^ because, unlike you, I favor a basic framework of human rights based on logic and reason. Not the perimenopausal emotional whims of a low IQ retard like yourself.

And even if we were to take your ridiculous and BS analogy further: even someone like Charles Manson, like all criminals, has (or should have) certain rights. Or maybe you don’t believe in democracy?

by Anonymousreply 28November 3, 2023 4:54 AM

R28 The Palestinian Authority is an authoritarian regime that has not held elections in over 15 years; it has been criticized for human rights abuses, including cracking down on journalists, human rights activists, and dissent against its rule.

Like the democracy in Palestine?

by Anonymousreply 30November 3, 2023 5:00 AM

R29, you really are retarded. The point being made had nothing to do with democratic rights (or the lack thereof) within Palestine.

Have you considered a lobotomy? I hear they help for “special” people like you.

by Anonymousreply 32November 3, 2023 5:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 35November 3, 2023 5:04 AM

LOL at the douche who thinks people should be able to vote for the right to knock him off of a building and then compares hatred of gays to disliking the colour orange.

Then of course here comes his "fag this and that". I wonder if he is going to throw a nigger or spic around as well.

Fucking pussy-eating monkey.

by Anonymousreply 36November 3, 2023 5:07 AM

Yeah, no one talked about supporting someone’s “right to knock [someone else] off of building”.

But thanks for playing, dumbfuck.

by Anonymousreply 37November 3, 2023 5:10 AM

R36, LOL there are plenty of Trumpers that would like to outlaw not just same sex marriage, but homosexuality generally. LOL Do you support bombing them? LOL

by Anonymousreply 38November 3, 2023 5:12 AM

R36, we all sincerely hope you are the next one pushed off a building by Hamas.

by Anonymousreply 39November 3, 2023 5:13 AM

False equivalency. MAGA is not 93% of the nation. Next.

by Anonymousreply 40November 3, 2023 5:23 AM

R40, what? Nearly half the fucking country voted for “MAGA” in 2016. Were you alive? Or just in a fent-induced stupor?

It’s also besides the point / not germane. But I’m sure you know that. Even if “MAGA” WERE a small minority, say 10% of the population for argument’s sake here, would you support bombing that 10%? Yes or no?

What about all those states — eg TX, FL — that have introduced repugnant legislation violating individual rights and freedoms. Bomb those states too? Yes or no?

by Anonymousreply 41November 3, 2023 5:34 AM

R41 please propose your solution for the Middle East or shut up.

by Anonymousreply 42November 3, 2023 5:36 AM

I’m sure r40, the queen of calling out false equivalencies, also falsely equivocates the entire population of Palestinians with Hamas.

by Anonymousreply 43November 3, 2023 5:37 AM

Awwwwww r42 is triggered now. Can’t provide any rebuttal so then of course shifts the goalposts entirely and demands me to proffer a “solution for the Middle East or shut up.”

Pinkwashing is an Israeli government propaganda strategy that cynically exploits LGBTQIA+ rights to project a progressive image while concealing Israel’s occupation and apartheid policies oppressing Palestinians.

For decades, Israel’s colonial and apartheid regime has robbed, oppressed, ethnically cleansed, impoverished, imprisoned and killed Palestinians, queer and non-queer alike.

As Israel’s far-right government allies itself with homophobic, intolerant and racist leaders around the world, including Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, and Christians United for Israel (CUFI) leader, pastor John Hagee, who combines anti-Semitism with Islamophobia, sexism, and homophobia, LGBTQIA+ communities are seeing through the pink smokescreen. There is growing awareness that queer and trans liberation cannot be separated from Palestinian liberation.

Anti-pinkwashing activists and groups have pushed Palestinian rights to the forefront of Pride events across the world. More than 100 LGBTQIA+ groups supported the call from Palestinian queers to boycott Eurovision 2019 in apartheid Tel Aviv. Dozens of queer filmmakers have withdrawn or opposed screenings of their films at TLVFest, the Israeli government-sponsored LGBT film festival in Tel Aviv.

by Anonymousreply 49November 3, 2023 5:47 AM

The group condemned the Israeli government’s use of “pinkwashing,” a deliberate strategy to obfuscate Israel’s apartheid and occupation of Palestine by drawing attention to Israel’s record on LGBTQ rights. Israeli nonprofit StandWithUs launched its ‘pinkwashing campaign’ almost twenty years ago; in a 2009 Haaretz article celebrating the nonprofit’s iPride campaign, Cnaan Liphshiz wrote that,“Tel Aviv’s burgeoning gay scene may be the single most effective Israel-advocacy instrument in the Zionist toolbox, according to [iPride] participants.”

We suggest since you support them so much maybe you should move there for awhile to really support the cause. Make sure to take all your new Pride merch, put it up in your apartment and wear it out proudly. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

by Anonymousreply 53November 3, 2023 5:57 AM

“The Israeli state often flaunts its liberal openness to sexuality and gender diversity while contrasting it to the oppression among Palestinian society and neighbouring Arab countries. This then serves as an excuse for Israel to rationalise its occupation of Palestinians, and to “liberate” oppressed LGBTQI+ Palestinian people.

However, this is nothing but a blatant weaponization of LGBTQI+ identities to justify Israel’s occupation and oppression of Palestinians – a hallmark of pinkwashing.

Meanwhile, whenever anyone accuses Israel of pinkwashing, or whenever a queer Palestinian asserts their identity and rejects Zionism, it’s common to be met with the cliched “try being gay in Gaza,” or “try having a Pride parade in Ramallah” responses.

I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I’ve been challenged or trolled on social media for showing even the smallest ounce of agency as a gay Palestinian. These critics usually cannot understand why I do not follow their pre-conceived Orientalist script in being a passive victim of a deeply patriarchal, “backward” society. They cannot comprehend why I do not support a nation state that is supposedly “the only LGBTQ haven in the Middle East”, as if possessing basic critical thinking skills is beyond them and they do not ask the question of exactly who it’s a haven for.

They also cannot fathom why I am proud of my gay Palestinian identities, or why I won’t turn my back on my culture, as if my worth as a member of the queer community is dependent on their approval.

It’s also quite telling how – at least in my personal experience – that the homophobia and racism I’ve experienced from these critics far outnumbers the homophobia and bigotry I’ve had to deal with from my own Palestinian and wider Arab communities. But here’s the thing: our Palestinian identity is linked with our sexuality. We cannot and should never be asked to choose between the two. This is why we must call out pinkwashing when we see it. Queer-led Palestinian groups, like alQaws, have said stressed the nature of pinkwashing being a symptom, with settler-colonialism “the root sickness”. They have also on record several times to say that queer liberation for Palestinians is tied up with liberation from Zionism. In other words, we cannot achieve real liberation as queer Palestinians until we have a free Palestine.”

R53, stop being such an emotional bitch.

You can support a people’s right to statehood and/or not to be bombed even if some (or many!) of the individuals in that group have backwards, contrary or (gasp) possibly repugnant viewpoints or opinions.

by Anonymousreply 55November 3, 2023 6:01 AM

Thank you R8

by Anonymousreply 56November 3, 2023 6:02 AM

Really twisting into pretzels here. You can post 400 pinkwash articles but you’re not convincing anyone.

by Anonymousreply 57November 3, 2023 6:02 AM

R55 what’s your personal motivation here. Are you a Queer Palestinian? Legitimately curious, it would help me understand.

by Anonymousreply 58November 3, 2023 6:04 AM

R54 I hope you were at least smart enough to leave Islam.

by Anonymousreply 59November 3, 2023 6:08 AM

“In queer spaces of discourse, a recurring theme amongst these voices attempts to highlight the nation’s support for its LGBTQIA+ citizens. There is a kind of memeification associated with this narrative to retort against gay people who choose to speak out against Israel by telling them how they will be ‘pushed off rooftops’ if they were to live amongst the Palestinians that they openly support.

Now, in the wake of the latest resurgence of the Israeli-Palestinian war, the use of what is at its best a marketing strategy and at its worst an apparently acceptable justification for genocide, reflects extremely poorly on those that fall back upon this logic in response to well-deserved criticism of the Israeli government.

In a way, the homo-nationalist argument being circulated by a number of pro-Israel individuals and groups aims to sell the idea that to be a good queer person or ally, one must show support for Israel. It claims that as a state that has enforced legal rights and protections for the queer community, it is the LGBTQ Eden of the Middle East and is therefore worthy of queer support.

Of all the flaws in this rhetoric, perhaps the most laughable one is that it is simply dishonest. While Israel may be a haven for Jewish Israeli queer people or also perhaps for the large number of visitors engaging in the country’s gay tourism, this is far from the reality of queer Palestinians living in the region.

Israel has a penchant for declaring to “save” Palestinian queers from their supposed monolith of a culture steeped in supposed “oppression” and “homophobia”. However, Palestinian activists have a different tale to tell. For one, at risk queer Palestinians seeking asylum on account of their sexuality face abusive policies, institutional hostility, police brutality, and a slew of unending obstacles and barriers to obtain legal status and protections.

In a 2021 article by 972 Magazine, a young queer Palestinian says, ‘If I would have known what it was really like, I would have rather died in the West Bank than live here like this.‘

But even upon being allowed into Israelis’ self-acclaimed “queer paradise”, the struggle for acceptance remains an uphill battle for queer Palestinians. Ghadir Shafie, a Palestinian feminist who has dedicated her life to the cause of queer Palestinian women, recalls in a 2015 testimony titled Pinkwashing: Israel’s International Strategy and Internal Agenda, her experience with Jewish queers when she initially moved to Tel Aviv in search of a more accepting, free way of life. ‘They affirmed that I did not look and sound Arab…I protested that my name clearly showed I was Arab. That was when they proposed changing my name for me.’ It became clear to Shafie then that she was welcome in Tel Aviv as a lesbian, but not so much as a Palestinian lesbian. There was a kind of racialised pressure to choose one identification over the other, and the alleged queer-friendly ideology of Israel did not extend to her as long as she maintained her Arab identity.”

Honestly, I would feel safer with the idiot American MAGAts as a gay man, than anywhere near Hamas.

All these “liberals” screaming against Israel in favor of a terrorist group is so disturbing 😔

by Anonymousreply 83November 3, 2023 12:51 PM

There really does have to be a reason why absolutely none of their Muslim “brothers” want Palestinians in their country. Perhaps it’s because they’ve started a civil war or unrest each time they were accepted into one? I think the bombing and imposition of cruelty on civilians, especially when Israel has a much stronger army, is totally unjust, but to see Hamas as freedom fighters is something that prevents me from siding with my fellow left-wingers on this issue. Radical chic nitwits to the extreme.

It is funny that these lefty liberal queers call pinkwashing a government that gives rights to gays, do they also accuse the cuban government of “pinkwashing” ? They ckaim that the israel government is weaponizing gay rights but these liberal queer groups are also weaponing our sexuality without our consent fir political purposes. We shouldn’t even taking any position with respect to this conflict publicly because there is no such a thing as an queer lbtq+ community. These people do not represent me at all.

[quote]The Israeli state often flaunts its liberal openness to sexuality and gender diversity while contrasting it to the oppression among Palestinian society and neighbouring Arab countries.

They FLAUNT it, I tell you!

R89: “ It is funny that these lefty liberal queers call pinkwashing a government that gives rights to gays, do they also accuse the cuban government of “pinkwashing” ?”

Uhhh does the Cuban government present itself as some haven for LGBTQ+ communities and rights while portraying its adversaries as intrinsically homophobic?

I’m not sure you understand the concept.

by Anonymousreply 93November 3, 2023 2:37 PM

R76, you mean just like how all these “you’ll get pushed off rooftopz!” faggots couldn’t give two shits about gay Palestinians, whose struggle they use as a disgusting rhetorical prop, while being useful idiots of the American and Israeli rightwing?

by Anonymousreply 94November 3, 2023 2:42 PM

It’s all caricature. That Israel is gay paradise and Palestine is gay hell. Caricature.

by Anonymousreply 95November 3, 2023 2:55 PM

Chickens for KFC - lol.

[quote] at risk queer Palestinians seeking asylum on account of their sexuality face abusive policies, institutional hostility, police brutality, and a slew of unending obstacles and barriers to obtain legal status and protections.

Wait, what? Palestinians are seeking asylum in Israel "on account of their sexuality"?

But that can't be right. Surely it's just as easy to be "queer" in Palestinian territories as the dreaded Jew Place. Surely there is no difference between being gay in Moslem societies and anywhere else. Why, to imply anything else would amount to "pinkwashing."

And then this.

[quote] a young queer Palestinian says, ‘If I would have known what it was really like, I would have rather died in the West Bank than live here like this.‘

Really? Cause you probably could go back to the West Bank if you really wanted to. Is it that you are now a notorious queer, and your family might just have to kill you for this crime?

by Anonymousreply 97November 3, 2023 3:11 PM

R93 yes it does, the cuban government actually portrays itself to be a gay friendly country.

by Anonymousreply 98November 3, 2023 4:00 PM

Ah yes, the gay Palestinians who are all so safe under the rule of their government!

by Anonymousreply 99November 3, 2023 8:51 PM

R97, nice strawmen you’ve constructed. Good timing too for the season!

by Anonymousreply 100November 3, 2023 9:19 PM

R98, since when? I’ve never once heard the Cuban government use anything LGBT-related as a marketing ploy for tourism. Any corroboration?

One of those 'tell me you're elderly without telling me you're elderly' moments.

R101 it even has a lgbtq hotel in downtown Havana for tourists.

by Anonymousreply 103November 3, 2023 10:26 PM

I'm certainly not for Palestine considering their genocide of gay men. And I also believe that Israel has the right to defend itself. But Netanyahu has shown he has no care for the innocent civilians in Gaza, and wants to make it as bloody as possible. And he's doing this to avoid his own leadership failures and scandals. He should be locked in a cell next to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 104November 3, 2023 10:45 PM

They are ideology driven fools, just like the pigs that would throw them off a roof or drag there ass through the streets of non-existent Palestine. We have two generations that have been completely indoctrinated, have zero critical thinking skills and know nothing of history past a year ago. Marxist academia has achieved its goals beyond their wildest imagining. These kids are so fucked and so are we.

by Anonymousreply 105November 3, 2023 10:52 PM

I saw on X where someone as a joke combined the Palestinian flag with the Pride flag and someone else commented that it’s the only flag that hangs itself.

Indeed.

Sadly, he shares that attitude with Hamas, which would love to see 90% of Palestinians die just to make a point.

by Anonymousreply 108November 4, 2023 12:06 AM

So you're traumatized by the spelling r102? You're a moron.

by Anonymousreply 109November 4, 2023 12:07 AM

Ironically a lot of the success by the Hamas terrorists was due to the reconnaissance provided by the Palestinians who come to the Israeli side to work their jobs as day workers. I don't know what the status of Gaza with Israel is going to be once this is finally over, but you can rest assured Israel will no longer be providing jobs to Gazans anymore. Things will never go to the peaceful coexistence that once was.

by Anonymousreply 110November 4, 2023 1:33 AM

R110, have you seen evidence of that? I’ve heard that said on TikTok, but that means nothing.

Israel had increased the work permits to the highest level ever, believing it would buy peace. A day’s pay in Israel is over six times what they would get in Palestine, where unemployment was at 45%.

by Anonymousreply 111November 4, 2023 1:41 AM

I don't have evidence, but a good friend who is former Israeli military and knows people in Israeli intelligence says they have concrete evidence that Gaza workers were instrumental in providing Hamas the inside information that resulted in so many deaths. Israel in currently in the process of deporting several thousands of Gaza laborers. The trust bond is now broken.

R8 The analogy isn’t just “not perfect”, it’s low IQ.

A better analogy would be Kanye West supporting openly white white wing racists who’ve been banned from mainstream media for racist / homophobic / antisemitic ideology

by Anonymousreply 113November 4, 2023 2:37 AM

Gas the Palestinians. Fuck em!
