The PBS Newshour

Does anyone else on DL watch the PBS Newshour? Is it still considered the gold standard of nightly news programs?

I used to watch it, but I don't anymore. I get pretty much all my news now from the web -- major newspapers and national news sites etc. Plus the local paper.

I watch it every night. It’s on now. I absolutely love it.

Hasn’t been the same since Judy Woodruff retired. Still good, but usually watch it after local news is done.

by Anonymousreply 3November 1, 2023 10:08 PM

Yes.

Yes.

I used to watch it, but for the past several years, I have been consuming bits and pieces of the news all day Newshour is a little stale by dinner time. Peak covid time was an exception— the big news channels were 24/7 suffer porn and Newshour was a sensible respite.

I always watch Frontline, though. Not always immediately, but as soon as I have the time and personal space to do so. I love Frontline and I hope it never changes.

The news team is the same that supported Judy—top quality. And in-depth.

Judy still appears, as part of continuing series about politics in America.

Love it, OP.

It is first rate, professional reporting and very evenhanded.

Loved Brooks and Shields and now Brooks and Capehart.

Also enjoy the Monday lineup of women political commentators.

Miss Gwen Ifill

And for some reason I find William Brangham incredibly sexy. I want to rip his clothes off and have my way with him!

R7, I’ll take Nick Schifrin. Yum!

by Anonymousreply 8November 1, 2023 10:39 PM

It’s the only news show I watch regularly. Where I live it’s followed by the previous evenings Amanpour and Company. I can get more global news from that show.

by Anonymousreply 9November 1, 2023 11:11 PM

Thanks! I watch this, Frontline, and Firing Line as much as I can.

I also scan the NYT and read the WSJ and Barron's

One of my few complaints is that they refer to the war in Israel and Gaza as “War in the Holy Land.” Just refer to it by its place name, please.

by Anonymousreply 11November 3, 2023 10:02 PM

Jonathan Capehart is such an obvious fag.

That was the only part I didn't like. A bunch of old farts in the opinion discussions. They need a somewhat more diversified discussion panel. I do not insist on representation of every community in society but a few less old farts would be a good place to start.

BPC, Gwen Ifill died of uterine cancer several years ago. I would watch The News Hour more often if she were still alive.

Always found Woodruff incredibly annoying with her awful Facelift Hairline and wiggling hands.

Yes I watch it daily from Australia OP. It's the best way to get American news. Non-emotional, factual and properly investigated. They have top notch guests and interesting discussions. I love the facts they have after each story.

Both the hosts are really nice and strictly professional and great interviewers even in the face of hostility - Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett. Recently I have found myself watching PBS NewsHour more than my own local evening news.

by Anonymousreply 15November 5, 2023 6:20 AM

R12 - they were all discussing his husband the other day during Brooks & Capehart with Amna Nawaz interviewing.

by Anonymousreply 16November 5, 2023 6:29 AM

Anybody watch Nightlife on ABC in recent years? I haven't and don't even know who the hosts are.

by Anonymousreply 17November 5, 2023 6:47 AM

I watch TikTok.

by Anonymousreply 18November 5, 2023 10:08 AM

Is the PBSNewshour biased left?

by Anonymousreply 19November 9, 2023 2:12 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 20November 9, 2023 4:19 PM

I used to watch everyday then I got tired of the world so now I watch Frasier and Star Trek reruns instead.
