Cox had her best material in the later seasons when they all decided to submit as Lead instead of Supporting, but by that point Jennifer Aniston was cemented as the 'star' of the female cast, and the Lead category was more competitive. Even Kudrow, who was the Emmy favorite for most of the show's run when they were submitted in Supporting, couldn't break into Lead.

I'm still salty that Lisa Kudrow didn't win the Emmy for the second season of "The Comeback." Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is brilliant in "Veep," but she could have lost that one year.

Very few comedy series today are sitcoms. 2 and a half men and the Office were the last of the sitcom era in being hugely popular with a broad audience. The Office can perfectly describe where the future was headed. It’s a sitcom filmed on single camera.
