by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 29, 2023 12:20 AM |
From TMZ: Law enforcement sources tell us the actor was found Saturday at an L.A.-area home ... where we're told he appears to have drowned. Our sources say first-responders rushed over on a call for cardiac arrest. It's unclear where exactly on the grounds this happened.
Our sources say he was found in a jacuzzi at the home ... and we're told there were no drugs found at the scene. We're also told there is no foul play involved.

This is great and not all embarassing, unwieldy, time consuming, unsanitary, etc." If someone used mouth cancer as a cautionary, anti-smoking point, would be people with rotting gums be offended? Christ, not everything is great. That doesn't mean you should be ashamed if you have a medical problem. But stop fucking acting like it's not off putting and something to avoid.

Of course r80. They’re all tied to each other professionally forever. Friends was a huge show that is still popular and made them all rich and famous. R97 Yes one young person making minimum wage couldn’t be there all the time. And a live in aid too expensive. There still would be the issue of not being able to be there all times. But shifts paying minimum wage Gen Zers. They would have to be qualified life guards as well. This would ensure they know CPR and are fit enough to move an unconscious body.

I knew Adam for years. His mother had a long-ish decline and her death in 2017 was not a surprise. She'd done quite a bit of planning and Adam handled almost all of her affairs. He had no fortune of his own and had no funds or reason to hold onto his mother's co-op after her death. He managed a really lovely memorial for her at Lincoln Center with many of Barbara's fellow singer, friends, and those she mentored speaking or singing in tribute. It was just perfect.
Sadly, he has since died himself (two summers ago) at age sixty-two of lymphocytic leukemia which had been in remission for decades. He was a warm, funny character and one of a kind. I hate to hear any nonsense about him, nothing could be further from the truth.

That picture of his parents is absolutely heartbreaking. Especially at their age. They have probably been waiting for that call for years. Life’s cruel twist.

Did he have a Batman fetish? I read that in the prior thread. It would explain the weird flashing red Batman logo on either his pool cover, or at the bottom of his pool. This is clearly visible in the drone footage from last night, taken by the tabloids over his house while the LAPD was at the house investigating things.

Prince has already been mentioned in these threads. He died intestate. His plane had to make an emergency landing in Iowa after OD. He received Naloxone either on the plane or in the hospital. And he had a valuable music catalog to consider.

Perry had a number of health issues a few years back. Maybe, he had a will.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 29, 2023 11:07 PM |
I get why people are focusing on a will, but, his money may be non-probate.
Unless California went their own way, generally what controls how his money is distributed is whoever he put as beneficiary on his financial accounts receives that money, which isn't subject to a will.
A will controls for how his physical property is distributed- homes, clothing, cars, furniture.
But, I don't know California trust and estates law, so I could be wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | October 29, 2023 11:12 PM |
Aretha had a will. It was handwritten and found under a sofa cushion and IIRC, not witnessed but it was accepted by the Probate Court (or whatever it’s called in Michigan) as valid.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 29, 2023 11:13 PM |
Perry was this.close to death a few years ago, when he got the colostomy. He was given a 2 percent chance of living. I can’t imagine he didn’t have a will. This was not a shocking death to anyone who actually knew him or to anyone who read his book. It was clear in the book that he was one missed Suboxone pill or even a bad week away from relapse. I’m sure his parents are sad but relieved because his life has been an emotional rollercoaster for 30 years. They probably mourned any normal, functioning relationship with him decades ago. Based on his book, they have been taking care of him and emotionally supporting him through his 20+ rehabs.

My mom has been a prescription painkiller addict for over fifty years. We finally got a doctor to treat her addiction and she takes Suboxone, but it is still in the same opioid drug family and naturally she abuses it and seems drugged and high most of the times I see her. She is in her mid-eighties. It is a hopeless situation as she has zero interest in anything but obtaining more. I basically just await the phone call. Addicts in the family will wear you out completely.

I was surprised by the Vicodin too. Only thing I could think is maybe it was easier to obtain, get new prescriptions than stronger opiates.
Vicodin also contains acetaminophen. Taking 55 pills a day, plus boozing, would surely cause some liver damage too.

Lots of people do lots of damage and then when they get sober, they finally get to the doc and do check ups, where an underlying issue is discovered and they don't live long. Getting sober didn't make them die, but finally getting a dx makes it seem like it's a recent health problem, when in reality it's been there and was just finally named. R129 Oh I'm sorry. Suboxone is fucking evil and not a cure for addiction, it's like methadone, just another drug.

Howard Hughes was worth $2.5 B at his death - equivalent to approximately $55B today.
He died intestate. Sure, he also died crazy, but he died without a will.
Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Sonny Bono, Stieg Larsson (Girl with the Dragon Tatoo author), Amy Winehouse, Chadwick Boseman, Stan Lee, Kurt Cobain, Heath Ledger, and Picasso also all died without a will.
Many very famous and very rich people die without valid wills.

[quote] "fuck yeah! I scored the privilege of now having an ostomy!
R64, my mother had an ileostomy and had to live with an ostomy pouch the last several years of her life. She had ulcerative colitis that created multiple perforations in her small intestine. She was mortified at first but she learned to manage it very well. She was able to function as she had before with almost no accidents and no odor. I actually gained a new respect for her, a woman who was gravely self-conscious all her life, as she bravely acclimated and navigated this challenge at the end of her life.
Perry's comments were thoughtless because several misfortunes which are not self-inflicted can result in someone, sometimes a child or young person, requiring an ostomy. It is NOT the worst thing that could happen to a person. No one needs to hear a junkie who needlessly put himself on a collision course with an ostomy bitch about how awful it is. Particularly when there are people throughout the world in desperate need of ostomy resources and supplies.

Oh I agree R142, self inflicted stuff like that is less sympathetic. But this new trend of acting like every way to live is great, and none is better than any other is fucking annoying. Now if you were to say, "don't eat shitty foods or you'll get fat!" you'd have Tess Holliday and other ham planets screeching that getting fat is fun and nothing to be avoided. It's obnoxious. Good for your mom, that would be a hard thing for a woman to deal with and it sounds like she did it with grace and dignity.

Perry was definitely taking Suboxone when he wrote his book. He seemed addicted to Suboxone and talked about how he needed to take that or he’d get sick. Which made me seriously concerned that he was abusing that. If they didn’t find Suboxone in his house, I would bet money it’s because he’d moved onto harder stuff. No way this guy could go without opioids or some detox meds.

Thank you, r144, I like to remember my mother as a person who exhibited grace under pressure. I understand that issues such as fat acceptance are dicey. I know a few people that had gastric bypass, or some similar surgery, and I would have no issue with someone railing it as the worse thing in the world. Particularly if the message is that willpower, diet and exercise is preferable to gastric bypass. There are few excuses for an able-bodied person to indulge a sedentary lifestyle considering all the health problems that can come with it. As well, gastric bypass is rarely if ever a life-saving operation for the critically ill.
As you know, the great majority of people with an ostomy don't have it because they burst their colon with opioid abuse. His comments were callous and lacking compassion for those who find themselves with an ostomy as an alternative to death and for no reason of their own making. Of course, Perry clearly had many more problems that merely being an insensitive jerk to critically ill, and possibly disabled, people.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | October 30, 2023 3:17 AM |
Thank you for educating me (seriously) R155. I had a brother with cystic fibrosis, and I loved him but I thought CF fucking sucked, if someone said they didn't want a child with Cf, I wouldn't blame them. But I guess it's pretty different for someone living with a...well, liveable condition. If there's nothing you can do about it, it may be hurtful to hear someone talking badly about it.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 30, 2023 3:21 AM |
His talk about the ostomy was gross and Insensitive, which was kind of how he generally came across in his book. I think he said he’d kill himself if he had to live with an ostomy long-term.
If it’s an consolation, he was also a jerk towards every woman he ever worked with, the Friends cast (esp Leblanc), the dentist who removed his teeth, Keanu Reeves (twice), etc.

Indeed, r130. She probably went from low to increasingly high benzos over the many, many years of abuse and climbed up to wicked abuse territory when Opioids became available.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | October 30, 2023 3:33 AM |
Indeed, r156, there is great stigma associated with having an ostomy -- i.e. the shame and disgust of having to wear a bag with your own excrement. It also requires a great deal of work and planning to function with it, and can be challenging and at times publicly embarrassing. I have a uniquely sympathetic perspective on the subject watching a loved one endure it. In addition to all the clinical help to learn how to manage an ostomy and care for the stoma, people very often need extensive therapy to overcome shock, humiliation and depression so they can learn to live with it.
It is a tough enough situation without someone who experienced all of that, and was apparently fortunate enough to have it reversed, demeaning the condition of others who are not so fortunate.

Having been prescribed Vicodin following a few orthopedic surgeries I can't begin to imagine taking 50 Vicodin -- or even 25 Vicodin -- per day, and what that would do to my colon. I was prescribed 1-2, every 4-6 hours. I was in so much pain during the first two days after my Achilles surgery, I took two every four hours or so. It depended on how soon I woke up after taking two -- which knocked me out within 20 minutes. So, I was taking 10-12 per day.....and sleeping most of the time.
After 2-3 days, I was ready to move on to plain old Tylenol/Ibuprofen to control the pain...because I just wanted to TAKE A SHIT.

As Whoopi notes, nobody thinks they're gonna die. Aretha's survival for 8 years from diagnosis to death with pancreatic cancer was nothing short of a medical miracle - something like 90% of those diagnosed are dead within a year - and clearly she was doing some thinking about the great beyond and who gets what when she was gone: they found two wills. The one in the sofa was judged the valid one.

So did the cast release their statement today? The entertainment reporter they interviewed on the local news this morning said it would be today and even scolded them by saying "it shouldn't have taken this long," which I found somewhat ridiculous. Last I checked, there is no Federal law stating they have to say anything at all, let alone on a timetable set by the media and the public.

There’s a lot of truth to the saying that famous people stay stunted at the age which they became famous. Perry seemed adolescent in his fifties personality wise. Houses full of batman toys and a petulant attitude regarding his decades ling addictions. Dated attitudes towards women and pursuing 19 year olds on Raya. Talk about having everything and knowing the value of nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 31, 2023 12:37 PM |
[R201] Yes, he seemed completely dated in his thinking about women. Like a high school boy bragging about hookups. He also had a bizarrely immature attitude about life generally in that he idealized other people’s lives and suffering while taking very little ownership of his own troubles. In his book, he would say things like “I’d gladly trade places with poor people or with non-famous people” (because he would not be an addict) without realizing that those kinds of people also deal with addiction or other serious problems. He was an incredibly self-centered person, or maybe just unfiltered and out of it enough to admit in print what other people would try to hide.

I think my shrink would have a lot of empathy for your ordeal R129: his 87 year old mother is going through one gram a day of cocaine, a downgrade for her previous 3-5 g a day that she's had for more than 60 years. But she always got away with it being a wealthy white influential, very well-married lady from Highland Park whose seemingly never-ending pep and go-getter style has always been admired in her community. I asked what happened to her nose and it looks like she uses a flexible silicon hose that reaches beyond the nasal cartilage and the roof of the mouth and she never had any problem. But how the heart is still beating after all those years of abuse, it's just a medical mystery.
