David Gilman- American Luger and Sprint Canoer, 1984

He competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and then the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He looked amazing while doing so.

Jesus. Keep em coming, OP. These have been great.

by Anonymousreply 5October 28, 2023 3:49 AM

Whoa. Did he at least go right from the Olympics to a successful career in gay porn? I’ll be very disappointed to find out he became a lawyer or a doctor after that. ☹️

by Anonymousreply 6October 28, 2023 3:52 AM

No porn. He didn’t win either Olympics either.

by Anonymousreply 7October 28, 2023 3:52 AM

A few years ago at an Olympians reunion held in Vegas. Hes in the middle.

R9 Dahmer-esque.

by Anonymousreply 14October 28, 2023 4:32 AM

Wow!!!!

by Anonymousreply 15October 28, 2023 6:22 AM

He still looks fine today but he was godlike

by Anonymousreply 16October 28, 2023 6:30 AM

God, aging is cruel. I am often very attracted to men around his current age, but he's just not a good looking older man.

But he was perfection young. Perfection.

by Anonymousreply 17October 28, 2023 7:09 AM

Wow. He participated in both the Winter and Summer Olympics? That's impressive.

Back then, they used to hold them both in the same year, too, until the 1990s.

by Anonymousreply 18October 28, 2023 7:12 AM

That ‘nerd’ photo at R9 is hotter to me than the other photos. Imagine being his roommate at college?!

by Anonymousreply 19October 28, 2023 7:38 AM

A real beauty

by Anonymousreply 22October 28, 2023 9:40 AM

I’d lick his shitter.

The OP's b&w photo was one in a brilliant series of photos that Bruce Weber did for the 1984 LA Summer Olympics that appeared in (I think ) INTERVIEW. I kept those photos in a picture file for decades though eventually lost them.

Weber managed to make every single athlete he shot god-like, even the ordinary ones, though Gilman's was surely the hottest. For my money the lack of color actually made them far sexier than the color photos of Gilman I'm seeing here. If anyone has access to more of those photos of other athletes, please link them here.

by Anonymousreply 33October 28, 2023 1:49 PM

R33 I still have that issue. Mitch Gaylord, Steve Lundquist. Yum. Best photography of a national Olympic team since Leni Riefenstahl.

That makes sense - there is a Tom of Finland aesthetic about the photo.

by Anonymousreply 35October 28, 2023 2:34 PM

R28 he isn’t unidentified and he is his colleague he’s competing with at the Olympics. They are working together. Not besties.

by Anonymousreply 36October 28, 2023 3:52 PM

1984 was the year Olympic water polo team member Terry Schroeder posed full frontal for the male statue that stands outside the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Terry did not see the completed statue until the public unveiling and he was mortified when he saw it.

R37 . . .

by Anonymousreply 38October 28, 2023 3:54 PM

R34 you literally saved that from the internet…

by Anonymousreply 39October 28, 2023 3:55 PM

Robert Graham was the sculptor —later Angelica’s husband.

by Anonymousreply 40October 28, 2023 3:57 PM

[quote]Terry did not see the completed statue until the public unveiling and he was mortified when he saw it.

Why was he mortified?

by Anonymousreply 41October 28, 2023 4:01 PM

R41, Because his genitals were exposed to thousands of people, which he must have known would happen.

He said he turned beet red after the unveiling and hurriedly walked away.

by Anonymousreply 42October 28, 2023 4:06 PM

They shaved pubes forty years ago, or was that an artistic choice?

by Anonymousreply 43October 28, 2023 4:08 PM

He was later proud of it—but he used to take a lot of shit from his water polo buddies…

That artwork has stood the test of time —a lovely work.

by Anonymousreply 44October 28, 2023 4:08 PM

Yes, he has nothing to be ashamed of. That's a beautiful body, dick, and balls. If only we could see the ass.

by Anonymousreply 45October 28, 2023 4:12 PM

You can—it’s out there, in the open!

by Anonymousreply 46October 28, 2023 4:39 PM

Pity it wasn't David they'd sculpted instead

by Anonymousreply 47October 28, 2023 4:57 PM

Terry isn't half as hot as David Gilman

by Anonymousreply 48October 28, 2023 4:58 PM

R43 idiot, many athletes have always shaved off their body hair. It makes keeping clean easier for them. Especially athletes who deal with water.

by Anonymousreply 49October 28, 2023 5:17 PM

Artistic…water polo players don’t usually shave…different from swimmers. Their mileage may vary.

by Anonymousreply 50October 28, 2023 5:30 PM

R50 as someone who played sports I can tell you that’s wrong. But I will let you lie some more. Always lying. No school. No job. Living off mommy. Having to lie his way through the internet

by Anonymousreply 51October 28, 2023 5:32 PM

You played sports? Well then. But are you a sculptor?—are you the artist Robert Graham…then your mileage may vary. Get it now?

by Anonymousreply 52October 28, 2023 5:37 PM

Doubt it, R52.

by Anonymousreply 57October 28, 2023 6:33 PM

Did Bruce Weber photograph the breakout star of Los Angeles 84, Mary Decker Slaney?

by Anonymousreply 58October 28, 2023 6:34 PM

Tribute to the pornstache era for sure!

by Anonymousreply 59October 28, 2023 6:47 PM

There were definitely women Weber photographed for that series, and also some older coaches, women and men. All god-like.

There was just something about the way Weber could light and photograph skin in b&w that was unearthly.

by Anonymousreply 60October 28, 2023 6:48 PM

^He was okay.

by Anonymousreply 61October 28, 2023 7:18 PM

R39 What was the Internet going to do to it?

But…no kidding? Do you expect me to go through a box somewhere for this place? Literally.

by Anonymousreply 62October 28, 2023 7:30 PM

Water polo? SHRINKAGE!

by Anonymousreply 63October 29, 2023 3:28 AM

[quote]God, aging is cruel. I am often very attracted to men around his current age, but he's just not a good looking older man.

Funny, I saw his image at R8 and thought he was still very good looking for a 70 year old man. Still looks fit, too. Good for him!

Also, OP, love your threads, keep 'em coming!

by Anonymousreply 64October 29, 2023 3:40 AM

The artistic decision to sculpt those Olympic torsos without body or pubic hair has absolutely nothing to do with the models being shaved down in real life, for their spot or otherwise.

They may or may not have been, but the sculptor certainly didn’t need them to be. Some of you gents are so incredibly literal minded.

by Anonymousreply 65October 29, 2023 2:23 PM

^^ sport

by Anonymousreply 66October 29, 2023 2:24 PM

Actually—I don’t recall anyone saying that…it was more of a side discussion based on the fact of the male’s real identity.

by Anonymousreply 67October 29, 2023 2:28 PM

😍😍😍😍

by Anonymousreply 68March 10, 2024 1:57 PM
