Chris Evans/Emily Blunt Netflix film “Pain Hustlers” is shockingly bad

23% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Chris Evans really has terrible management. Netflix has an even worse greenlight department.

Got a good review in the NY Times, and though I’ve just started watching it, It’s fast-moving and entertaining. Blount has a better body than I thought, and even as a low rent sleazebag, Chris Evans is hot. He’s convincingly playing in blue collar mode a la his excellent turn in “Lobby Hero” on Broadway several seasons ago.

So I’m not incllined to believe you, OP.

I saw a snippet of this when the Netflix app opened today. It looked awful, like it was a buried release from 2017.

It looked even worse than the Oirish film with Blunt.

I'll watch anything with Catherine O'Hara.

Chris Evans was awful in that shotty Knives Out too. He isn't a star, he's not a contender. Nor is Emily Flop

by Anonymousreply 4October 27, 2023 6:49 PM

Blunt was awesome in The English, she just needs the right material.

by Anonymousreply 5October 27, 2023 6:51 PM

Neither “star” can carry a film. They’re marginally talented supporting actors.

Emily Cunt should retire along with her ugly husband.

by Anonymousreply 7October 27, 2023 8:24 PM

Emily Blount is a good actress, Chris Evans, despite his good looks, is aging into good character work, and the haters here make no sense whatever. Begone!

by Anonymousreply 8October 27, 2023 9:02 PM

Oh r8 I can’t even COUNT the ways I hate Emily BLOUNT!

by Anonymousreply 9October 27, 2023 9:56 PM

Evans’s career is absolutely hopeless. Zero taste in scripts.

by Anonymousreply 10October 27, 2023 9:57 PM

She's too busy thinking about John's big hairy cock!

Evans’s career is odd because he actually COMPLAINS about the bad films he did early in his career while doing garbage like this, the Red Sea Diving Resort, The Gray Man, Ghosted, Lightyear and the upcoming Christmas movie with Dwayne Johnson. He may have earned up to $100 million from all these shitty movies because streaming pays more upfront, but he’s destroyed his reputation as a star. And he is talented.

Is he with CAA or WME? He needs to switch.

Evans isn't hurting for money, so why he keeps taking these awful movies is a mystery. The only thing he's done that wasn't a stinker was Knives Out and that was an ensemble cast.

Unlike most other actors, even if he has a string of bombs, he can go back and recharge his popularity and career with Marvel. If he agreed to go back to Marvel, he'd be paid RDJ money. He made $50 million per movie starting way back with the first Avengers movie (after having done the first two Iron Man movies). He made $10mm for the couple minutes he was in Spider Man. By Infinity Stones and Endgame, he made $75mm for each of those.

Anthony Mackie is the new Captain America so they won’t bring Evans back to the role.

Still given the insane amount of money he makes it’s curious why he needs to do these dopey movies when he could work with any A-list director he wants to.

This entire phase of Marvel is a multiverse storyline that will likely culminate with movies that bring back many of the older actors in alternate universe versions of themselves. With how Marvel is floundering right now, you can be that they'll pay top dollar to bring back Scarjo, RDJ, Evans, and others.

Bad script + overrated actors + hack director + Netflix production =costly, generic product

by Anonymousreply 16October 28, 2023 5:18 PM

While this movie is no Oscar bait, it’s entertaining and has a good cast giving good performances. Don’t get the irrational, reflexive hate here.

by Anonymousreply 17October 29, 2023 2:32 AM

Blunt was excellent in The Devil Wears Prada and The Quiet Place 1 & 2. But she's chillingly cold and unlikable otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 18October 29, 2023 3:24 AM

I was about to watch it then I saw all the bad reviews. Anyone here like it?

by Anonymousreply 19October 29, 2023 3:30 AM

No R19. I tried to watch a few minutes of it and then gave up.

by Anonymousreply 20October 29, 2023 4:05 AM

With all the fillers and Botox, she is not capable of showing emotion on her face anymore. She was a better actress when she had her former face in Devil Wears Prada. She’s sucked ever since.

You bitches need to sit on a big dildo and chillax. He's making the fluffy "TV movies" of today and everyone is content with them. He's a breezy star - not Laurence Olivier or James Mason.

by Anonymousreply 23October 29, 2023 5:42 AM

Evans even has a bad wig in this

by Anonymousreply 24October 29, 2023 7:08 AM

If you were to ask anyone at the height of the DCEU/Marvel Phase 1 rivalry who would have a better career after the movies ended, Chris Evans or Henry Cavill, everyone would have said Chris Evans. Even Henry Cavill would have said Chris Evans, which is why Cavill agreed to star in Witcher, because he doubted he would get big movie roles after Superman.

And yet today Cavill has four consecutive top-billed theatrical releases lined up (five if you count Hercules which hasn't been announced yet) and Chris Evans hasn't appeared in in person onscreen since Knives Out for which he was not even top billed.

Absolute shite career management. But he's made a ton of money, if that's his priority.

Netflix productions lately have been terrible. And I’m tired of all their dubbed foreign productions. I’d get rid of it except that my partner watches almost every stupid thing on it.

Yes, poor Emily. I hope you're embarrassed for yourself, but if you're not we'll be embarrassed for you.
