“Even The Nights Are Better” (1982) is the best song Air Supply ever released.

It peaked at #5 in 1982 and while they had a few bigger hits, his was their best. I love this one and sing along to it

Thanks OP. I haven't slept at night with this on my mind, unable to decide, just which one of Air Supply's endless stream of wonderful hits, is the best.

by Anonymousreply 1October 23, 2023 7:00 PM

R1 well you should think of it more.

by Anonymousreply 2October 23, 2023 7:13 PM

It was maudlin dreck in 1982 and it still is today.

by Anonymousreply 3October 23, 2023 7:19 PM

I agree with the OP, the song is a merry, bouncy, romantic carriage wagon ride from start to finish.

by Anonymousreply 4October 23, 2023 9:00 PM

Could never get past his cotton candy hair. Ew.

by Anonymousreply 5October 23, 2023 9:15 PM

R5 it was 1982.

by Anonymousreply 6October 23, 2023 9:20 PM

This troll OP just keeps on crapping out the oldies, doesn't she?

by Anonymousreply 7October 23, 2023 9:49 PM

I was dragged to see these guys at the Cape Cod Melody Tent long after their careers had withered.

It was 2 hours I'll never get back.

by Anonymousreply 8October 23, 2023 9:53 PM

The lead singer looks and sounds like my granny now. I saw them a couple years ago. Thank goodness I was a guest, and there was alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 9October 23, 2023 10:03 PM

Best song of Air Supply is kind of like picking the best type of cancer.

by Anonymousreply 10October 23, 2023 10:28 PM

You mean everyone doesn't think Air Supply is a merry, bouncy, romantic carriage wagon ride?

Air Supply produced with some of the most boring, sleep inducing crap ever played on the radio...bleech!

by Anonymousreply 12October 23, 2023 10:37 PM

OP, let me guess: you love being spanked and force-fed rat shit during sexual encounters, right?

by Anonymousreply 13October 23, 2023 10:44 PM

Hey OP? You can go fuck yourself!

I just glanced at your thread title and moved on, clearly not interested. Two minutes later I realize I’m singing this inane, throwaway song to myself.

Now I have to go find a Demi Lovato thread or one of those Brittany rabbit holes.

by Anonymousreply 14October 23, 2023 10:48 PM

It’s a great song r14

by Anonymousreply 15October 24, 2023 3:49 AM

“I’m All Out of Love” reminds me of when my sister got dumped by her boyfriend and she spent weeks crying. I think the song was #1 at the time so played constantly and would set her off crying all over again every time it came on the radio. Fucking brutal.

by Anonymousreply 16October 24, 2023 4:11 AM

Even The Nights Are Better only went to Air Supply after labelmate Gino Vannelli refused Clive Davis’ request to cut it for his follow up album to Nightwalker. Arista did release Gino’s preferred self penned tune The Longer You Wait but it barely scraped the Hot 100 and his whole album was cancelled & tossed in the vault. He then ended up suing and paying millions to get off the label while Air Supply cashed royalty checks from this…

by Anonymousreply 17October 24, 2023 4:28 AM

It sounds gayer with Glen Campbell.

Wrong, OP. Making Love is much more dramatic.

i fucking love this song. If any people with an understanding of pop music can explain why its so appealing i would be appreciative. I did look up the songwriters and they mainly did country. But this one seems unique, its kind of upbeat, whistful, i have trouble finding songs to compare it to.

by Anonymousreply 20October 24, 2023 6:12 AM

Russell Hitchcock makes Leo Sayer look sexy.

R20 what is appealing to you may not be appealing to someone else. It appealing to you can’t be explained.

by Anonymousreply 23October 24, 2023 9:18 AM

For those who believe no explanation is necessary. For those who do not no explanation is possible.

by Anonymousreply 24October 24, 2023 10:39 AM

I don't understand the need for even in the title.

^^It's code for sexy times. Because the nights (when they have sexy times) are EVEN better than the days (when they just hold hands and gaze adoringly at each other).

by Anonymousreply 27October 24, 2023 10:47 AM

R22/Carlos, that song makes me feel like I’m drifting on a fluffy cloud. Pure, unapologetic schmaltz.

I love it, too.

by Anonymousreply 28October 24, 2023 11:28 AM

Lost in Love is their best song. It’s so swoony.

by Anonymousreply 29October 24, 2023 11:47 AM

The blonde guy was always sexy.

r23 ugh i wasn't asking for someone to explain why i love the song. I was hoping there might be a musician with experience in pop music who could break down the elements of how it functions and possibly what makes it unique (or not).

by Anonymousreply 35October 30, 2023 7:20 AM

[quote] ugh i wasn't asking for someone to explain why i love the song

Could it have anything to do with those special nights, as a teenager, your father would sneak into your bed and gingerly pleasure your boyhole?

Are you Deacon Philippe, OP?

by Anonymousreply 36October 30, 2023 1:21 PM

r36 I'm not OP, I was just hoping there would be a musician on here who could explain why this song is so awesome by breaking down its elements like a professional pop song writer or producer would.

by Anonymousreply 37November 1, 2023 8:15 PM

R37 only it being awesome is an opinion. Some musician might hear it and say this is shit.

by Anonymousreply 38November 1, 2023 11:26 PM

r38 you're really not getting it. The enjoyment of a song is different than its construction and elements. I am not a musician. There's stuff like Chord progression, verse-chorus structure, time signature, and tons of other elements I know very little about. I know that this song was written by country music writers. A pro might consider that origin and how a country song of the early 80s functions and what elements made it into the translation to pop (or didnt). I like professionals breaking down how things are constructed and explaining what makes them different.

Attached is a link where a professional guitar player breaks down what he thinks is the most complicated pop song he's ever encountered--NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO by Sergio Mendes. I love it. You might hate it. Not relevant to why the song will seriously fuck up a wedding band that thinks they're jumping into a nice smooth pop gem.

R39 no sweetie, I get it. Not everything is some deep scientific reasoning. You like it. Cool. Some don’t. Cool. Just like it and move on like a fucking adult. Who asks someone to explain to them why they like a song?

by Anonymousreply 40November 2, 2023 11:46 PM

R40 On the off chance you aren't trolling and don't understand you've repeated yourself for the third time: This is a message board full of artists, musicians, and some contributors with an encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture and pop music. I'm an expert in my field and I answer questions using my knowledge pretty frequently. Its why message boards exist.

This specific board was literally created to discuss this song. It's not a poll asking "do you like it?" And while I can have a somewhat informed conversation about other Air Supply hits (a few of which are Jim Steinman songs that function exactly like other Jim Steinman songs) this one is unique. Or at least I have a feeling it might be. So I asked the question, hoping there might be some reader with specific musical expertise, who could offer casual insight. And that person, like experts in many fields, would probably be happy to answer.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2023 8:45 PM

R41 please grow the fuck up. If you can’t, just leave DL. DL is filled with mostly elder gay men. Not little kids to entertain a jobless retard.

by Anonymousreply 42November 6, 2023 8:48 PM

Op is Indian

by Anonymousreply 43November 6, 2023 11:20 PM

r42 There's something wrong with you. I think you might have me confused with someone else, but even so, its bizarre behavior. And who else besides eldergays would be interested in weighing in on an Air Supply song from 40 years ago? (My guess: The same eldergays who are debating the merits and success of Erotica and Cyndi Lauper's third album on a different board).

by Anonymousreply 44November 7, 2023 1:49 AM

R44 who asks someone to explain to them why they like a song? Liking a song is subjective. It’s a stupid fucking question from a jobless retard.

No. I don’t have the wrong person idiot.

by Anonymousreply 45November 7, 2023 1:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 51December 13, 2023 9:53 PM

OP I only know this song because of Euphoria. It’s playing as Nate is getting ready in Tyler’s apartment for his date with Maddy. Of course this is after he beat the living shit out of Tyler.

by Anonymousreply 60January 14, 2024 1:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 64June 30, 2025 6:57 PM

Indeed. Has anyone solicited Vicki’s opinion as to which Air Supply hits truly were their greatest?

by Anonymousreply 65June 30, 2025 7:16 PM

Fun fact, when America was done with this song, it was DONE. Even The Nights Are Better got bounced clear out of the Top 40 from #6. If you followed Casey’s weekly countdown back then, you’ll appreciate how unusual this was.
