Blind Item!- Jerry Seinfeld is being offered nearly 9 figures to reboot ‘Seinfeld’

“ This former A+ list television actor who is more famous for being funny than any acting ability, is being offered nearly nine figures to reboot his old show for two seasons.

Jerry Seinfeld/Seinfeld”

Would you watch a reboot?

Hell no.

by Anonymousreply 1October 22, 2023 12:13 AM

Jerry must want LD-level money!

by Anonymousreply 2October 22, 2023 12:18 AM

I would absolutely watch. One of the rules of Seinfeld was that no one learned lessons, and characters didn't experience growth. Perfect for a revival, they can still be the same immature, terrible people they were in the original.

by Anonymousreply 3October 22, 2023 12:18 AM

This should work out well for him.

by Anonymousreply 4October 22, 2023 12:18 AM

I demand more minorities, profanity and nudity.

by Anonymousreply 5October 22, 2023 12:20 AM

That's a lot of yada yada.

by Anonymousreply 6October 22, 2023 12:23 AM

R3 agreed. Seinfeld and co. in 2023 world climate would be hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 7October 22, 2023 12:27 AM

I would watch a Soup Nazi breaking bad type series

by Anonymousreply 8October 22, 2023 12:31 AM

SJW wokesters would insist on a " diverse" cast. Besides, Michael Richards has been canceled, so he would never be a part of the show.

by Anonymousreply 9October 22, 2023 12:40 AM

They'd need to add a black character.

by Anonymousreply 10October 22, 2023 12:42 AM

George goes out to Brooklyn get the limited edition, Kermit- green folding phone, and a 13 year old girl beats him to it.

Elaine tries to keep working from home but is foiled by a noisesome, nude colonist neighbor.

Jerry gets a new gig at what was Caroline’s, and discovers the new club isn’t anything like the old one and the owners are frugal.

Kramer discovers all the crushing going on in the Rambles while trying to unload a bunch of “sexy” and suggestive hot dogs.

by Anonymousreply 11October 22, 2023 12:44 AM

The guy who played Library Detective Bookman is dead. How the hell can they bring the show back without Bookman?

by Anonymousreply 12October 22, 2023 12:45 AM

I feel like Julia Louis-Dreyfus would be a holdout, unless they backed the money truck up to her too. She doesn't need Seinfeld, she's done more than fine ever since.

by Anonymousreply 13October 22, 2023 12:48 AM

She’s also born into money r13. She never needed any of it, Seinfeld included.

But I’m sure the other three would be compensated at least $1 million per episode.

by Anonymousreply 14October 22, 2023 12:51 AM

Jerry kind of screwed the principle cast members out of residuals on the DVD releases, somehow. I think he’d have to pay through the nose to get them on board now.

by Anonymousreply 15October 22, 2023 12:53 AM

Would Larry come back?

by Anonymousreply 16October 22, 2023 12:53 AM

I think we need to focus on taking dollars away from Jerry Seinfeld.

by Anonymousreply 17October 22, 2023 12:55 AM

Jerry actually went to bat for the other cast members to try to get them back-end profit participation during the original run of the show -- he just wasn't successful.

by Anonymousreply 18October 22, 2023 1:02 AM

Yes. Jerry did not get to call that final shot. He tried but wasn’t successful. It’s his show literally titled after him so he’s gonna get more than everyone.

The Friends cast makes a lot more than the Seinfeld cast in royalties.

by Anonymousreply 19October 22, 2023 1:06 AM

[quote]Jerry kind of screwed the principle cast members out of residuals on the DVD releases

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 20October 22, 2023 1:07 AM

The show simply would not be the same without Helen and Morty Seinfeld, Frank and Estelle Costanza and Uncle Leo.

by Anonymousreply 21October 22, 2023 1:40 AM

I hated Uncle Leo.

by Anonymousreply 22October 22, 2023 1:44 AM

Does NBC even have "nine figures" to offer?

by Anonymousreply 23October 22, 2023 1:50 AM

I won’t watch it on gp. That’s ridiculous…too much money to pay for a reboot.

by Anonymousreply 24October 22, 2023 1:54 AM

R20 JLD was on Howard Stern back when he was still on terrestrial radio and said JS and LD gave them residuals on the DVDs since they got nothing for the original show (them being JLD, MR and JA).

by Anonymousreply 25October 22, 2023 1:54 AM

I would think they'd all be looking at fat paychecks ($2-5 million/episode) at this point. It won't work without all four. (See 'Frasier')

by Anonymousreply 26October 22, 2023 1:59 AM

It won't work out WITH them either. (See "Murphy Brown.")

by Anonymousreply 27October 22, 2023 2:01 AM

"Nearly 9 figures" could be as low as $80mm up to $99mm.

He's estimated to make $400mm from each syndication cycle (Syndication rights typically last for six consecutive showings of a series within three to five years).

Why would he bother with the hassle to actually work, especially since it could turnout to be a big failure - the humor of Seinfeld would be the target of OUTRAGE today. This could easily kill the goose by lowering the value of the older series in syndication.

by Anonymousreply 28October 22, 2023 2:27 AM

Louis-Dreyfus needs cash like the Palestinians need patio furniture.

by Anonymousreply 29October 22, 2023 2:35 AM

R28 you can’t seem to understand none of them need money. They work because they enjoy what they do.

JLD is a trust fund kid too. Something no one acknowledges

by Anonymousreply 30October 22, 2023 2:37 AM

[quote][R28] you can’t seem to understand none of them need money. They work because they enjoy what they do.

Seinfeld is still doing standup. There is an enormous difference between doing a live show here and there and having to carry the burden of leading a show - even a streaming one that only does 10 episodes a season. Two seasons is commiting at least 2 years if you include pre-production and subsequent promotion. Can you imagine how tedious doing all the interview shows would be having to answer the same questions over and over and over.

He doesn't need the money, so the fact they're offering him "almost 9 figures" to do something would be irrelevant. If he wanted to do the show again, he'd simply do the show again - as if anyone would turn it down if he were willing.

by Anonymousreply 31October 22, 2023 2:47 AM

It wouldn't work, even if that coin-sucking wife of his demanded he do it.

1) The show requires all four actors, but they're not all available now. Richards is retired and toxic, JLD is too famous now, Seinfeld has delusional-rich-prick money, and Alexander has gone back to song-and-dance.

2) The show requires Larry David's writing and production, and he wouldn't come back for more.

3) The show thrived in a 1990s NYC that no longer exists. They'd have to modernize in too many ways, and lose the setting.

4) Jerry's gotten a taste for wacky, part-time work that he utterly controls (the cars and coffee thing he does when he feels like it), and he'll never go back to being a sitcom actor with bosses and work schedules again.

5) The storylines wore themselves out, and can't be recaptured or refreshed for today. Dating, stand-up comedy, office work, and jokes about minutiae aren't the same in 2023, and Jerry Seinfeld's recent stand-up has shown that his sensibilities peaked a few decades ago.

It will be just as pathetic as the Murphy Brown reboot and the Frasier reboot - both featured aging stars trying and failing to connect with younger co-stars in a new setting. Frasier has no chemistry with his adult son's Black girlfriend, and Murphy Brown isn't funny when she's yelling at her grandson's college graduation, and Jerry Seinfeld won't get as many laughs with jokes about cigar store Indians and Mario Cuomo.

by Anonymousreply 32October 22, 2023 2:47 AM

The show went downhill after Larry David left.

by Anonymousreply 33October 22, 2023 2:57 AM

R31 actually working on 10 episodes isn’t working for 2 years. They literally work for like 2 months.

by Anonymousreply 34October 22, 2023 2:57 AM

I would watch a spin off with Jerry alone living in Boca Vista as a senior citizen.

by Anonymousreply 35October 22, 2023 3:58 AM

Jerry Seinfeld is estimated to be worth $820-$950 million. He doesn't need an extra $9 million and may not want it.

If he were to reboot his show, perhaps he may do it to financially help his fellow actors, writers, directors and crew.

By the way: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is worth $250 million; Jason Alexander is worth $50 million; and Michael Richards is worth $30 million.

by Anonymousreply 36October 22, 2023 4:07 AM

Liz Sheridan fucked James Dean.

by Anonymousreply 37October 22, 2023 4:11 AM

9 figures isn’t $9 million.

Also, Seinfeld recently did tease that we may see a reunion or something one day so maybe he’s thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 38October 22, 2023 4:16 AM

Seinfeld hinted at something recently so he’s clearly at least considering it.

I think it could make a super cute movie or limited series at best. But I will definitely watch.

by Anonymousreply 41October 22, 2023 4:21 AM

Ugh, just fucking go away, Jerry.

Take Kelsey with you.

by Anonymousreply 42October 22, 2023 4:24 AM

Nine figures for Mr. Seinfeld, and they wouldn’t give Our Suzanne $150,000!

by Anonymousreply 43October 22, 2023 4:43 AM

R11 Go on. We know you have more.

by Anonymousreply 44October 22, 2023 5:15 AM

r43 Well, to be fair, it was about 130 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 45October 22, 2023 5:16 AM

We can’t compare pay in 2023 to pay in the 70s and 80s.

by Anonymousreply 46October 22, 2023 5:21 AM

[quote] Jerry Seinfeld is estimated to be worth $820-$950 million. He doesn't need an extra $9 million and may not want it.

Blind item says he was offered nearly 9 figures, not counting the numbers after the decimal point, I'm assuming.

Nine figures is, at least: $100,000,000.

So, very conservatively, he's being offered $50,000,000.

by Anonymousreply 47October 22, 2023 5:34 AM

R47 you blow at math.

by Anonymousreply 48October 22, 2023 5:50 AM

He’s not worth it. No human is.

by Anonymousreply 49October 22, 2023 6:02 AM

Jerry Seinfeld is an unfunny bore. That show was funny because of its supporting cast and writers, which included the great LD.

by Anonymousreply 50October 22, 2023 6:23 AM

It’ll be a Curb Your Enthusiasm knockoff with the Frasier reboot’s bad sets and shaky, uninspired writing.

by Anonymousreply 51October 22, 2023 6:28 AM

I hope he keeps it un-woke and offensive.

by Anonymousreply 52October 22, 2023 6:31 AM

They already did a season-long reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm and won’t be able to top that.

by Anonymousreply 53October 22, 2023 6:57 AM

Unpopular opinion: I never liked this show.

I felt like everyone was pretending it was brilliant comedy when it had all the depth of a comic strip. Seinfeld was grating, Kramer was hammy, George was ugly *and* grating, and Elaine had the worst hair and clothes. I also hated that it was fake New York, with exteriors on unconvincing LA soundstages.

I can watch episodes of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cheers, Barney Miller, and Curb Your Enthusiasm for the tenth time and still LOL, but you can't pay me to watch two Seinfeld episodes back to back.

by Anonymousreply 54October 22, 2023 7:17 AM

The true art would be to completely sidestep “woke” and turn the tables, just like Larry did with the MAGA hat. Sadly, insisting on Black, trans or other characters would TOTALLY backfire BECAUSE THE BEAUTY IS THEY MAKE FUN OF THEMSELVES and wind up the brunt of the joke.

Elaine goes on a date with a thoroughly animated guy to the gala reopening of the Vessel, gets to the top and she honestly can’t tell if he wants to have sex with her or jump.

Jerry does some consulting for an AI startup, steals a joke from the computer and gets caught- by the computer that listens, then regurgitates all his old sets.

George inherits a gaudy diamond ring, then loses the stone by rapping too hard on the coffee shop door because they consistently don’t open on time. He finds out “always late” barista finds it and wears it festooned onto a private piercing.

Kramer tries his hand at AirBNBing a wealthy friend’s apartment only to discover the new building was constructed next to a chicken slaughter house.

by Anonymousreply 55October 22, 2023 7:19 AM

Kramer will NOT be part of any reboot, unless the role is recast.

by Anonymousreply 56October 22, 2023 1:44 PM

Kramer will be replaced by a sassy black woman played by Wanda Sykes.

by Anonymousreply 57October 22, 2023 1:45 PM

Same, R54.

I'd rather watch Garry Shandling than Seinfeld any day.

by Anonymousreply 58October 22, 2023 1:51 PM

Old people aren't funny.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 59October 22, 2023 1:55 PM

r36 cannot count.

by Anonymousreply 60October 22, 2023 2:00 PM

If the story is true, and he's been offered nine figures for a fucking TV show, it's just more proof that we live in a very inequitable world with seriously fucked up priorities.

by Anonymousreply 61October 22, 2023 2:16 PM

R56, he was on the Seinfeld reunion season of Curb, and that was post stand-up melt-down.

by Anonymousreply 62October 22, 2023 2:30 PM

I can see the business logic behind this, as even I would likely tune in, and that's having skipped all the other reboots of shows I once liked or loved - Murphy Brown, Frasier, Will&Grace, Roseanne ... etc.

I hope Jerry doesn't do it. As others have mentioned, reviving this show's particular sensibility seems doomed to fail. If anything, its timelessness would make it even harder to recapture.

But, you know, with two years of work he could make sure his great grandkids will be rich. So ... it'll probably happen. Just bring back everyone who's still alive -- Wayne Knight, Patrick Warburton, Bryan Cranston etc.

People love to dump on those two post-LD seasons but the truth is they were way funnier than the show's first two seasons, before it hit its stride.

by Anonymousreply 63October 22, 2023 2:43 PM

R56 how old are you? Of course he will still be a part of it. Seinfeld isn’t done with him and he was a huge part of the show (winning numerous Emmys to boot). You take cancel culture too literally. People “canceled” still work most times and he’s still friends with Larry David and Seinfeld.

And the person who keeps bringing up race, would you want a gay character? That’s woke.

by Anonymousreply 64October 22, 2023 2:53 PM

You are so correct, R63. I watch Seinfeld regularly on Comedy Central, but when they cycle around to Seasons 1, 2 and even Season 3, I change the channel. Not funny in any way, shape or form. Good thing Brandon Tartikoff was head of NBC and a fan of the show. Any other network and the show would have been toast.

Somebody created a list of the 10 best Seinfeld episodes (I don't remember who created the list of where it appeared), but 4 of the top 10 were from Seasons 8 and 9, a very disproportionate number.

"The Yada, Yada" and "The Festivus" are Seinfeld classics and both are post Larry David.

by Anonymousreply 65October 22, 2023 3:00 PM

In order to satisfy current standards in casting, Rebecca DeMornay from the homeless shelter and George's boss who either did or didn't look like Sugar Ray Leonard will be elevated to series regulars.

by Anonymousreply 66October 22, 2023 3:15 PM

R65 a show that’s dominating in ratings would be toast? You clearly don’t know what you’re speaking about. Retard motherfucker at it again.

by Anonymousreply 67October 22, 2023 3:22 PM

R65 he is “correct”? No. You share the same opinion (because you are him) but there is no right or wrong. It’s a matter of opinion.

by Anonymousreply 68October 22, 2023 3:23 PM

R66 Plus Cedric and Bob, the violent gay couple who keep running into Kramer. They beat him up for not wearing an AIDS ribbon, and stole his armoire practically at gunpoint.

"WHO? Who doesn't want to wear The Ribbon???"

by Anonymousreply 69October 23, 2023 4:39 PM

If I was worth 950 million I would really want to bump myself up into billionaire territory -- I could see that driving a person to weird lengths

by Anonymousreply 70October 23, 2023 8:42 PM

Will it take place in a nursing home?

by Anonymousreply 71October 23, 2023 8:54 PM

r16 the best Seinfeld material came from him.

I would check it out of course, but I think since they went out on top it would be foolish to come back and risk being a flop.

by Anonymousreply 72October 23, 2023 9:00 PM

I’ll give him 25 figures to fade from private life forever.

by Anonymousreply 73October 30, 2023 3:45 AM

This may be true but 9 figures. Ho please. Nobody is offering Jerry Seinfeld 100 mil or more to reboot Seinfeld.

by Anonymousreply 74October 30, 2023 4:08 AM

I hate this cunt.

I hated his cunt show.

I hate all the cunts who made his cunt show.

I hate Curb Your Cunting FUCKING Enthusiasm as well.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE them.

BURN TO DEATH IN FRONT OF ME

BEG FOR MY PISS

IT SHALL NOT BE FORTHCOMING

by Anonymousreply 75October 30, 2023 4:35 AM

I think on some level you had to have a certain amount of intelligence to get it, which is why it was more popular on the coasts.

by Anonymousreply 76October 30, 2023 5:13 AM

R76. Agreed but I also think the nature of the show. Seinfeld’s characters were true New Yorkers. Friends were a bunch of New York suburbs college grads who decided to stay in the city. New York is most unlike any other American city except maybe San Fran. At any rate you have to be a city dweller to get a lot of the content.

by Anonymousreply 77October 30, 2023 5:25 AM

Why would you offer the money to Seinfeld? Anyone could see (both from what happened when he left and from Curb Your Enthusiasm) that the show's motor was Larry David. Jerry performed the useful task of leavening David's squirm factor, but David is the genius plotter. Also, while Jerry's stand-up act is very perceptive (I notice people do this, that and the other funny and illogical thing), David is the one who gets into the often horrifying motives underlying hilarious human behavior. David has already written the sequel two ways: Curb itself, and the "Seinfeld Reunion" within his show.

How much money Larry David has at this point might need a quantum computer to calculate.

by Anonymousreply 78October 30, 2023 5:31 AM

R77 Also the show was very “New York Jewish.” I grew up in suburban DC where a lot of New York Jews ended up, so we were quite familiar with the New York Jewish culture and humor.

by Anonymousreply 79October 30, 2023 6:06 AM

Of course I would watch!

by Anonymousreply 80October 30, 2023 6:08 AM

I will only watch if Puddy comes back.

My gayling self was madly in love with him in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 81October 30, 2023 9:18 AM

[quote] Perfect for a revival, they can still be the same immature, terrible people they were in the original.

Fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 82October 30, 2023 9:51 AM

r66 and r69, you each mention a guest cast member who are now dead. Sonya Eddy, who played Rebecca, died in December 2022. John Paragon, who played Cedric, died in April 2021.

by Anonymousreply 83October 30, 2023 10:22 AM

I would watch but I can't imagine it could be as good as the original.

by Anonymousreply 84October 30, 2023 11:03 AM

I continue to love Seinfeld but prefer to keep watching repeats. I still see ones I’ve never seen before.

by Anonymousreply 85October 30, 2023 12:41 PM

R79 lol, I realize that now as an adult. Growing up in DC I didn’t understand why we got Jewish holidays off when there weren’t any Jews in my school. That’s because Jews were not going to any public schools in the city except maybe at the high school level but the clout that Jews have in the DMV region is enormous. I moved to NYC at 13 and finally had Jewish classmates.

by Anonymousreply 86October 30, 2023 1:44 PM

The very worst thing is it would take almost a full decade worth of financial budgeting from other rising stars and content production in what is already a shaky situation- . An astounding amount of money allocated in a way that may never be repaid and completely change the industry if it failed.

f it was a flop the network would reign back on risky and boutique projects, and INEVITABLY in this political, woke era, the end product will be a neutered, toothless, clawless, completely sanitized version- that no one likes or is satisfied with.

I can’t stress enough even if the Seinfeld crew walks away with their chunk,, it would affect all other production in completely unforeseen and seriously detrimental ways.
