Culture clash regarding stigma of suicide after Muslim student's death at NJ University

Algerian American student at NJ university dies after falling from the 6th floor of a building on campus

Montclair State University mourns the loss of one of its own, freshman Abderrahmane “Abdu” Mefti. The sudden passing of this vibrant young soul from Wallington, New Jersey has left the entire community deeply saddened.

Hius family and friends are saying "he was attacked and thrown from the 6th floor of the school by a group of Zionists all for defending Palestine" while the school is saying his death was from suicide and not a result of any criminal actions.

Some on-line comments posted about this story @r/Algeria-

This looks like a clear state of denial from his family. No Algerian wants to admit that mental health is a thing and that their son took his own life. They always want to attribute it to something else, hell every person I know who took their own life here was proclaimed to be "possessed by a devil". So I wouldn't be surprised that they would claim he was murdered instead of comiting suicide just as a coping mechanism for them.

------------------------------

both parties are biased, the familly wants to save their reputation "as suicide is a bad thing for the muslim image and shows signs of bad parenting" so they wanna turn this into a murder where their son is portrayed as a martyr of truth rather than a mentally ill suicidal person.

while the university will get hard backlash if there was talks of a murder investigation and their campus not being safe for students.

This is why the police departement is a third party that has no biase and should be the one making headlines not the university not the kid's parents because they are both biased. If there's still an on going investigation then it's not honest to come here and start claiming that he was actually murdered without any evidence.

--------------------------

I’m from the neighboring area and have to say that we need to be extra careful with misinformation. As much power as Zionists have here in the US, there is NO WAY that the school would cover up a murder on their premises because that is such a massive liability. Let’s just let the poor young man rest in peace please, too much misinformation is going around right now and we need to be extra careful.

Of course it was "Zionists"!

Hatred of zionists is more socially acceptable than hatred of Jews, which is what this is all about.
