But clearly they want to launch a talk show for him, and Sherri's probably got a year to year contract. Debmar Mercury has to supply the affiliates that bought her show (or, in some cases, Wendy's show) with programming until next August - the end of the season. They can stop active production probably before that and run summer repeats, but they have to probably deliver fresh shows until late spring/early summer.

It happened on just about every show that child actors are on. Most of the Eight Is Enough kids needed another father figure & Dick Van Paten rose to the job as well. You can see this in the DL thread about the one who played Mary on the show. A talk show surprised her with a pep talk from him & you could tell it made her feel better & needed it in some way.

Compare Reed to the Lost In Space dad that Bill Mumy said on a show that "he never saw him again after the final episode". It really affected him. Like it would've killed LIS dad to sent Bill a letter over the years since the final show & gave him some human connection even if to just put the final nail in their relationship. Closure can put a person on a better path.

Reed knew the Brady kids would see him as a surrogate dad & never kicked them to the curb in any way that I could tell. A role model dad on screen & off for millions around the world (& he was GAY & died from AIDS).
