Why Aren't More People Talking About the Ohio State Sex Abuse Scandal?

CC: LEGACY MEDIA, MAMA BEARS, HOUSE REPUBLICANS, and 2024 VOTERS

Re: Gym and his bid for Speaker of the House

"A Buckeyes sports doctor sexually assaulted more than 350 athletes—while also doling out steroids, SI has learned. Why have survivors' settlement figures paled in comparison to other similar cases? And what does that say about us?"

Although I totally believe this, how can so many guys be molested before alerting the principal/dean? A few, ok, but 350?!?

by Anonymousreply 1October 14, 2023 6:22 PM

This is a very big deal

by Anonymousreply 2October 14, 2023 6:25 PM

whey they say molested....what does that mean exactly? what sexual act is considered that?

by Anonymousreply 3October 14, 2023 6:25 PM

[quote] Why Aren't More People Talking About the Ohio State Sex Abuse Scandal?

Might it possibly be due to Sports Illustrated losing so much circulation once SI started publishing fat and tranny swimsuit models ?

They have chosen someone who covered up rape and drug dealing as their speaker.

Think about it for a minute. Think about what this means.

by Anonymousreply 5October 14, 2023 6:38 PM

Those athletics expressed they reported the abuse to Jim Jordan, their assistant coach at the time. Jim, allegedly, did nothing, such as reporting the incidents to University officials. When confronted years later, Jordan denied about knowing anything about the abuse, and claimed the wrestlers said nothing to him about the matter at the time. Numerous wrestlers said otherwise; that Jordan iwas being untruthful.

Essentially, Jordan was a major figure in the cover-up and let the abuse keep happening after wrestlers complained to him.

by Anonymousreply 6October 14, 2023 6:55 PM

Essentially, Jordan is scum.

by Anonymousreply 7October 14, 2023 7:44 PM

It's not reported because men were abused. No one cares about men, since they believe college-aged wrestlers would have been able to defend themselves.

by Anonymousreply 8October 14, 2023 8:46 PM

I was wondering how long it would take "it's because their men" to come along.

by Anonymousreply 9October 14, 2023 9:45 PM

[quote] The slightly-built doctor with the heavily gelled hair who could be alternatively charming and prickly, and spoke in an effeminate voice edged in awkward nervousness? Who would not only lurk during practices, sitting naked on locker room benches, but then shower alongside the athletes? Who fondled athletes’ genitals during examinations, regardless of their injury? For years, Strauss and his “handsiness” as more than one former Buckeye athlete put it to Sports Illustrated, made for both an open secret and a running joke within the OSU athletic department

Dr. was a DLer. And apparently his assaulting was a running joke. These young college athletes could have defended themselves if they wanted but probably too embarrassed. I also wonder how many guys fought back, you can't tell me they all accepted it without a fight.

by Anonymousreply 10October 14, 2023 9:53 PM

Whose men, R9?

by Anonymousreply 11October 14, 2023 9:53 PM

Republiqans are fine with sexual abuse and the MSM is fine with whatever republiqans do.

These kinds of premeditated institutional abusers will make abuse a routine part of their professional behaviour. They will abuse every patient, for years. Hundreds of victims is the norm.

by Anonymousreply 15October 14, 2023 9:59 PM

I know how they feel.

by Anonymousreply 16October 14, 2023 9:59 PM

The Dr in question committed suicide in 2005 so didn't really face justice.

by Anonymousreply 17October 14, 2023 9:59 PM

Forever screeching about groomers and bellowing "protect the children" but then they go out of their way to appoint this as their speaker

by Anonymousreply 18October 14, 2023 10:17 PM

I love a handsy doctor, tailor, masseur or coach. Have it. I'm a lil whore at heart.

by Anonymousreply 19October 15, 2023 4:54 AM

R4, the conservatives who rant about "fat people and trannies" should be aware that the fattest states are mostly red states. If you want to see thin people, try moving to New York or San Francisco

And why do you freaks gave to make everything about trans people? This is a thread about a cis man who groped other cis men

by Anonymousreply 20October 15, 2023 5:00 AM

R10, he was their doctor and was in a position of power over them because they were required to get physicals from him to remain on the team. They didn't want to get in trouble.

by Anonymousreply 21October 15, 2023 5:02 AM

R3, if you do a deep dive on this case, you'll see that his abuse covered a wide variety of acts, from touching/fondling to drugging and raping guys

by Anonymousreply 22October 15, 2023 5:05 AM

R1, at least one of them reported his abuse right after it happened. The University let Strauss get away with it

by Anonymousreply 23October 15, 2023 5:06 AM

This article is from 2020.

by Anonymousreply 24October 15, 2023 5:08 AM

Was Gym held responsible for his part in the acts/cover up of the abuse, R24? No? Then it's still relevant.

Wrestling is about as latent as a man dating an Asian woman. I don’t excuse sexual abuse. It’s as reprehensible as all crimes of a sexual nature.

But men who enjoy gentle but forceful full-body contact with other men while wearing spandex and simulating sexual dominance is 🤔

Republicans in disarray!

NYT: "Representative Jim Jordan and his allies have begun a right-wing pressure campaign against Republicans opposed to electing him speaker, working to unleash the rage of the party’s base voters against any lawmaker standing in the way of his election.

"In efforts to close the gap, lawmakers and activists close to him have taken to social media and the airwaves to blast the Republicans they believe are blocking his path to victory and encourage voters to browbeat them into supporting Mr. Jordan. It is an extraordinary instance of Republican-on-Republican fighting that underscores the divisions that have wrought chaos inside the party, paralyzing the House of Representatives in the process."

by Anonymousreply 30October 15, 2023 5:49 PM

Jim Jordan has a such punchable face.

by Anonymousreply 31October 15, 2023 5:50 PM

He puts the squeak in pipsqueak.

by Anonymousreply 32October 15, 2023 5:54 PM

Most public colleges in the US are fucking garbage when it comes to sexual assault and abuse. Larry Nassar fit in at Michigan State because it was already a garbage college. I also vaguely remember that prior to the Nassar scandal, there were women who came out at said that rape was common back in the 80s and 90s at MSU. There was some joke at Michigan State being a "rape college".

by Anonymousreply 33October 15, 2023 5:55 PM

Oh, yes. Transition from threatening innocent poll workers, people just doing their jobs, the current president of the United States, elected representatives of the opposing party, and the families of everyone mentioned to threatening those who won't do your bidding, from your own dying political party.

How Christian. Very Pro-Life. Showing your "integrity". Definitely the values America was founded on and what we process to hold dear, as a nation and a people.

*Slow clap for the continued implosion of the Republican party*

by Anonymousreply 34October 15, 2023 5:56 PM

Thee sports illustrated article offered detailed, too detailed description of assaults. Not much about Jordan ignoring and coercing victims to stop complaining. Why?

by Anonymousreply 35October 15, 2023 6:12 PM

I think Jordan has some kind of fixer at work who is finding ways to minimize Jordan's role in the cover-up.

by Anonymousreply 36October 15, 2023 6:23 PM

Anybody saying they didn't understand why Strauss (and by enabling it, Jordan) got away with this for years does not understand collegiate sports and the powers that coaches and administration have over these young men. The article spells it out pretty clearly: a single doctor could end your sports career, taking your scholarship, ability to compete including for the Olympics, and any professional aspirations away with a single report. These athletes understood it, and they didn't want to rock the boat in any way for fear of being singled out and harassed (gee, does that sound familiar when you think about Jordan and his actions present day?).

by Anonymousreply 37October 15, 2023 6:31 PM

The WaPo story about this will go into Jordan’s role… I believe that’s the focus.

Not sure when it is coming out but my understanding is the GOP is nervous about it.

by Anonymousreply 38October 15, 2023 6:35 PM

Why not? Because Republicans only care about *fabricated* sex abuse/pedophilia featuring democrats they don’t like.

They have no interest in *actual* sex abuse/pedophilia committed so often by republicans/“evangelicals”.

by Anonymousreply 39October 15, 2023 6:35 PM

OSU has long been known as the gay center of Big Ten schools. It’s a school full of fags.

by Anonymousreply 40October 15, 2023 6:38 PM

Being "a fag"is one thing being drugged and raped another and then being told "shut up, this never happened"? Insult to injury. The victims reported their assaults in real time, thirty years ago. They did not keep it quiet (for decades) and resurface years later with a fantastic tale no one could believe. These men tried to report it and were told, "NO. IT DID NOT HAPPEN".

by Anonymousreply 41October 15, 2023 6:48 PM

Being a gay man doesn't give another man permission to rape them.

Take that shit back to church, Karen.

by Anonymousreply 42October 15, 2023 6:57 PM

To paraphrase a wise woman, " it was rape rape". This Sport Illustrated article is graphic in describing the assaults. Too graphic and too illustrated. And too skimpy on details of the speaker of the house involvement in the suppression of the crimes.

by Anonymousreply 43October 15, 2023 7:05 PM

Sex is bad!

by Anonymousreply 44October 15, 2023 7:09 PM

Sexual predators of men rely on their victims being afraid to report. Don’t have stats but few are reported.

No straight guy wants to be known as the guy who got diddled by another guy. It would mean they’ve “done gay things” and raise questions about why they allowed it (which is stupid).

by Anonymousreply 45October 15, 2023 7:13 PM

The scandal is going to get more attention. But, I wonder what happened with that documentary that George Clooney was producing.

by Anonymousreply 46October 15, 2023 10:52 PM

[quote] Sexual predators of men rely on their victims being afraid to report

Sexual predators of either sex rely on it. Victims of sexual abuse in general are afraid, for various reasons, but end in the same results: lack of reporting.

This sexual abuser specifically brings to light how much money and power is in collegiate sports and how utterly crazy that is.

by Anonymousreply 47October 15, 2023 11:42 PM

The George Clooney doc is on the way, but I suspect the WaPo piece will get more traction as Clooney is not viewed as impartial.

by Anonymousreply 48October 15, 2023 11:56 PM

And WaPo is?

by Anonymousreply 50October 16, 2023 1:04 AM

Plain Dealer editor has something to say about Gym.

[quote]Jordan is a follower, not a leader. That’s why this one-trick pony was so willing to dive into any conspiratorial rabbit hole dug for him by the likes of Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon or Alex Jones. Eventually, Jordan either reappears empty-handed or emerges holding a fistful of lies designed mainly to harm some honest and hard-working American who loves his or her country.

[quote]No one will ever describe Jordan more fittingly than the late Michael Gerson, an evangelical Christian, lifelong Republican and onetime chief speechwriter to former President George W. Bush. Writing for The Washington Post in 2019, Gerson framed Jordan as “the Truly Trumpian Man - guided by bigotry, seized by conspiracy theories, dismissive of facts and truth, indifferent to ethics, contemptuous of institutional norms and ruthlessly dedicated to the success of a demagogue.”

[quote]Case closed.

[quote] This sexual abuser specifically brings to light how much money and power is in collegiate sports and how utterly crazy that is.

In some ways, I dislike collegiate sports more than pro sports. Yes, there is corruption in pro sports. But, imo the corruption in public collegiate sports is worse in part because of how much money a lot of public college football coaches make. This article is from 2019. I know most elected officials are shitty, but it's sort of fucked up how people who govern states make far less than college football coaches.

So the question becomes, why didn't that athlete then go to the police if the university took no action after the complaint? And were there many others who complained o the university but not to the police?

by Anonymousreply 64October 18, 2023 2:42 AM

The fact that this person even positions himself for the role is astounding and infuriating.

Magats, can not take a hint.

How can a group of people who consistently cheat to win elections not understand they are unwanted?

I don't want a rape apologist in my timeline. I don't want Butt-Head Gaetz in my timeline.

What college sport did you play? Did you start?

I love to hear from inside experts like you that know exactly what they are talking about, not from making up shit or watching ESPN but because you lived the life.

If I am wrong and you are just passing on shit you heard on ESPN then sorry for confusing you with someone with first hand knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 66October 18, 2023 10:51 AM

R56

The jocks have little voice or power?

It’s 2023 not 1963. A starter in a big 10 lacrosse or soccer team, not even addressing a sec football player, can legally make more money in a year than many full time workers that post on DL. It’s the day of the well paid NIL. Making over $100,000 not that unusual.

They can transfer where and when they want. And they can do that because of a better NIL offer. And they can get a free education that would sink many families in massive debt.

They are wanted. Really wanted. Not so much sadly for many who post on DL.
