Data and Worf were not the weak points of the show, though I've grown to loathe Brent Spiner more and more over time, and DS9 handled Klingon story lines much better. I'm young enough that I had a lot of affection for LeVar Burton because of Reading Rainbow, but every episode featuring Geordi managed to show a new way in which he was kind of pathetic.

I think it's the worst of the ST revivals but so many trekkies drool over it.
The wood on the sets make me cringe whenever I see it.
Barclay is the most annoying character they produced & I had to tolerate him on multiple Voyager episodes.
Barclay & O'Brian are right wing nuts in real life & Ensign Ro was an arrogant bitch to think she was above the whole genre but her career crashed & burned after she ticked off the fanbase. She should've done a year or two on DS9 & them graciously bowed out afterwards for the film biz.
The actresses are always in short supply on these Trek shows (in the credits & in the guest star roles) & the fact that they don't always get along makes it harder to write stories of deep friendship between them = Troi not getting along with Crusher or Pulaski actresses only pales by the Janeway /2 of Breasts actress feud.

This show has stolen Superman ideas all over it =
Data = Brainiac
Q = Mr. Mxyzpltlk
Troi = Lois Lane who is smart probing problem solver. Troi is also a damsel in distress like in the episode that Yar is killed.
Yar = Supergirl (she even ended up getting killed a couple years after DC offed their tough blond chick.
Tech savior Dr. Crusher = Lana Lana as Insect Queen had a tech ring that could save her pals is most matters.
Wesley = Jimmy Olsen & sometimes Robin the Boy Wonder when Riker is around.
Picard the genius baldie in charge = Lex Luthor who was in charge of super villain groups in the 70s which later surfaced on "Challenge Of The Super Friends" as leader of The Legion Of Doom.
Riker = Tall, dark & handsome ladies man that acts like Supes best second in command super pal Batman / Bruce Wayne
Borg cubes are basically Borg worlds = Bizarro World is cube shaped & that debuted about 25 years earlier.
Jordi = Clark Kent who is awkward with women & strikes out with them in some scenarios.

"Masks" from season seven was a disaster. As was the episode about warp drive destroying the galaxy, which was conveniently forgotten afterward. The metaphor was too heavy-handed.
"Code of Honor" from the first season has not aged well at all. Jonathan Frakes hates it.
Speaking of season one, "Justice" is horrible. That's the episode where the crew visits a planet of half-naked teenagers who like to run everywhere, and Wesley is sentenced to death for falling in a bush. What a mess. No wonder the show had to be ripped away from Gene Roddenberry.

I love TNG. There are definitely cheesy episodes but for the most part it was a great, entertaining run for years. Seasons 6 and 7 is where it started to weaken a bit, for me. Those are the episodes I have not watched more than once it twice through the years.
I don't really get the Pulaski hate. She seemed perfectly fine to me and, though I am glad McFadden returned, I thought her character added something to the show while she was there.

I never cared for the Q episodes, but hate is too strong a word. The character was too much an allegory and way too a convenient crutch. That said, part of the reason I don't like Q is I met John de Lancie and he was not a pleasant person. It might have been just an at-the-moment thing, but it struck me as the worst parts of the character were de Lancie's interpretation.

The one where Data fucked the blond one who died in molten black tar.
The ones with Deanna's mom (who for many years I didn't know was the iconic Majel Barrett) and how she always chases Picard like he's some hot piece of ass
And
Not an episode per se but all the times Riker says "red alert" and all the times he swings his leg over the chair before sitting down. I think that was a troll but whatever.
Back in the days of the show's airing, my friends and I would call eachother "Riker" as an insult (loosely meant to describe someone awkward or clownish).

[quote]R7: Barclay & O'Brian are right wing nuts in real life
Dwight Schultz (Barclay) is a right wing nut; Colm Meaney (O'Brian) is not. He is an Irish Republican, which is not the same as a US Republican. Irish Republicans favored Irish independence from England, and are considered left-wing.
[quote]R19: As was the episode about warp drive destroying the galaxy, which was conveniently forgotten afterward.
The episode in question was 'Force of Nature,' and is frequently mischaracterized as meaning 'all space, everywhere.' The issue with warp fields was limited to a patch of space called the Hekaras Corridor, although it was acknowledged that other places could share its particular vulnerability. (see link below)
[quote]R20: I don't really get the Pulaski hate. She seemed perfectly fine to me and, though I am glad McFadden returned, I thought her character added something to the show while she was there.
That, and the fact that Dr Pulaski was portrayed by the equivalent of 'Star Trek royalty' - someone who'd worked in the original series, twice - Diana Muldaur.

Also I was a big nerd I even more like a starfleet badge on my jacket in junior high and that was the only time I ever attended to Star Trek convention. It was on the smaller side and the only cast member of note that appeared was the guy who played hugh.
I even stole a couple of Star Trek books from Barnes & Noble when was the nitpicker's guide which very painstakingly detailed every episodes plot holes and technical glitches and such. At the time it only went up to season 5 because the show was still airing and I read that thing front to back several times. The other book I still was a Star Trek next generation companion which provided some reason photos of each season and I think that also only ran through season 5. I kept meaning to pick up the updated versions but instead sometimes I'll pull up the TNG rewatch on tor. I enjoy reading those commentary and summaries.

I also had all the Star Trek action figures and surprisingly most of the playsets including the transporter which was pretty cool cuz it lit up and made the noise and everything and your figure totally disappeared. I also had the Star Trek bridge set and my favorite thing to do was to recreate each season's cast. I was very much annoyed that for certain figures they didn't have the correct uniforms all the time.b
And I can't even tell you how annoyed I was when the generations movie came out and the toys of those figures did not match the movie whatsoever. I waited in line the morning that movie came out and saw the very first showing at our theater and was so excited that they were wearing the deep space nine uniforms and was so hoping to have versions of those but instead they were some completely different uniform that didn't appear in the movie at all.

Oh and also during the convention I can't remember who it was it was speaking I think he was a writer producer but at some point during his presentation Pulaski came up and I remember everybody cheering about how her character from law and order got fell down an elevator shaft.

I also declined to try to meet hugh because I was a very man hungry 14 year old terrified of anyone finding out I was gay but I was just so f****** horny for men all the time and couldn't stop imagining what their dicks would look or feel like and so the only way I could deal was just to avoid men entirely.
This was a very weird time in my life where I had decided I wanted to go to a different Junior high than the one near our house and instead attended the one near my dad's house. The first day of school I decided that I would tell all the teachers I go by my middle name but by fourth period I was tired of interrupting world call to say so and so for the two years I attended that school people were so confused about what my name actually was because some knew me by my middle name as well other teachers knew me by my first name. As a condition of attending this school since it was so far away from our house my mom told me it was my job to make sure that I got myself to and from school. During the fallen spring I rode my bike but during the winter I catch the bus and occasionally I'd walk and the weird thing is is that even to this day I'll still have dreams of making that walk or sometimes actually running all the way home and making it in like 20 minutes which is actually something I did do once or.
The best part of the route though is that it passed by the library so a lot of times if I didn't have to be home to babysit I would just spend the afternoon at the library usually reading billboard or rolling stone. And then I'd often steal some CDs because I never wanted to have to return them. The first year was actually the year that the Janet Jackson cover came out and I remember being scandalized. Surprisingly for his conservative as the area I lived in was there was no attempt to hide or restrict the magazine it was in the regular rack like everything else and I didn't think twice about taking it and reading it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 11, 2023 1:12 AM

I still have some of those CDs in fact one is Sheryl Crow and I swear someday I'm going to get her to sign it and confess my crime tour as well. The others are like Natalie Merchant and Jewel but I also got a lot of CDs from Columbia House doing that one sent thing and of course never paying. I also for the longest time it may still but I'm not sure where I have like a soundtrack to like some weird movie and it's like French or something and I'm not sure what made me steal it except that maybe one of the songs or artists with somebody I thought I liked I'm not sure.
I also remember thinking that I could order a bunch of CDs from Columbia house and then take them back to like a local store and I remember trying to take them to rite aid at least I think that's what it was called at the time whatever it was but they wouldn't take them because they didn't have barcodes. I was such an odd child and that I was always coming up with some get rich scheme and I've had just about every job and side gig you can think of even as an adult and I guess maybe that just comes from being so desperately poor.

I met Majel Barret a few times as she was a client of mine. Very nice person and an icon in my eyes. One year I went to an ST convention in SF and she had a booth selling her book. She was making change for people buying it out of her purse. I loved her even more.

I think not getting to meet Michelle will be about the only thing I regret in my life. She seemed like a really genuinely lovely person. And also I just find her voice incredibly sexy. And her laugh too and that episode where timpson falls for her I swear was like some sort of gift to the gays because he voiced all of the things I had felt about her throughout the show's run.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 11, 2023 1:21 AM

That should be Majel. Although meeting Michelle Forbes would be pretty cool although I probably would annoy her and also I never recognize her when she's in that one episode of Seinfeld I swear every time I watch it and I always think it's funny cuz it's all about the big salad or whatever I'm always like that woman looks so familiar and I spend like forever trying to figure out who she is and then I realize it's in ensign ro.
Speaking of her I know it's considered by a lot of fans to be one of the worst episodes but I really like the one where her Keiko Picard and guinan all become children. I thought they did a really good job with all the child actors who did very well portraying the characters they were supposed to be. And I think the girl who played guinan was also in sister act as what bees young self. I think the reason that the Isabella episode is so favored by me is because Troy's hair is just so on point the entire hour. The girl playing Isabella does kind of weird looking.

The worst episode was when they visited some planet where everyone is a Greek god hot body person. They are all muscled and tan except for the leader who is a big nelly queen. Beverly Crusher candle ghost sex episode (& the fact she doesn’t even see anything icky about fucking her recently deceased grandmother’s lover in the first place—it’s just all kinds of weird).
I’m actually rare in that I enjoy the first few seasons way more than the latter seasons. S5-7 despite some great episodes, ended up rather bland, prosaic and dull.
Other unpopular opinions—Lwaxana Troi was an absolutely fantastic character, full of so much more life and joy de vive than most the regular cast put together, and Pulaski was a far better and more engaging character (& actress) than lifeless Crusher.

It's not TNG but one of the worst DS9 episodes was on just the other night where Molly falls into a portal and comes back having lives alone in the wilderness for like 8 years and is now a feral teenager. It's insane to me that after trying for like a week like oh well she's too violent and they decide to leave her back in ancient past wilderness on a distant planet even though she was just as happy in a hologram simulation that they could have easily set up probably like anywhere.
But then they tacked on the whole assault charge and acted like a federation at war was going to come down to bear in pursuing a fugitive teenager.
