Joan Crawford plays a rich, lonely, imperious older woman living in solitary splendor in NYC circa the late '60s--how did "Night Gallery's" creators think of JC?! Crawford's rich bitch is also blind and wants new eyes--and not Bette Davis' either! A great turn by Joan, directed by young Steven Spielberg. My look at Crawford's "Eyes!"

Here is the only FREE copy that I could find, but it's a decent one, unless you have Claudia Menlo's vision!

Incredible actress. What a presence.

It was an early directorial effort by Steven Spielberg. La Crawford tried to get him fired.

Spielberg said he wished Crawford had lived to play the angel Hap in "Always" instead of Audrey Hepburn.

Here's a short clip of Steven talking about Joan, and Crawford as Claudia yowling her big line!

And it about 13 years too for Spielberg to get revenge by played Kim Carne's "Bette Davis Eyes" nonstop. That probably would have caused Crawford into one of her "illnesses" like the night she won the Oscar and Davis just plain bullied her off "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte".

Meant "playing" not "played".

Ultimately, Joan actually treated Spielberg well

...Joan lightened up regarding young Steven once the Universal big wigs backed Spielberg, and Crawford came to trust his abilities...

Brittle drunk.

I thought Crawford ultimately loved Spielberg and raved about him.

...she did, once she got over herself...

If only she'd lived a few more years for The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, etc.

I don't know why but I find it impossible to believe that Spielberg will turn 77 in a couple of months.

R17- and I find it impossible to believe that I recently turned 58

I love in the intro of Joan's character, who announces she's 54!

Crawford's actual birthdate might be 1904. Since films are often made a year before they are released (theatrical) or shown (broadcast or now streamed), she might be:
1: telling the truth, a rare departure from the fiction she was living. Another time was a David Frost interview when she said the movie industry had given her an education, since she never went beyond the fifth grade.
2: Cover Your Ears, Miss Madrigal, fudged her age by ONE WHOLE YEAR. Am through shouting.
