Medical-Gays -- HELP! I stepped on a rusty nail
I was cleaning out my driveway and accidentally stepped right on a rusty nail. It went through the soul of my sneakers and my sock. It didn't puncture my foot, but the impact site on the sole of my foot is pink and bruised and it hurts (a little) to walk on it. I have no idea if I've ever had a tetanus shot. I have an appointment with my primary care physician tomorrow afternoon, so can ask him then, but figured I'd ask a bunch of anonymous homosexuals, too. Do you think I can wait until tomorrow or should I go to urgent care now? I'm trying to avoid the cost and (more importantly) endless wait at urgent care unless absolutely necessary.
I'm 42 and otherwise in good health.

Oh DEARING myself on my sneaker's "soul". But, to be fair, the shoe is now ruined.

You'll need a tetanus shot if you haven't had one.

Seasoned Elder but not from the medical industry. If it happened today and you are going to see your PCP tomorrow, you are good.
Also, remember to get your Flu and COVID vaccination (if not over taxing your body).

If it didn’t puncture the skin of your foot, then where in the hell are you trying to get a tetanus shot, dimwit?

R4 - Then, I've definitely not had one. I didn't realize the tetanus shot goes in the wound site. Assumed it was just an arm or buttocks shot like the rest of them.
R3 - Thanks! Got my new Covid and flu shots yesterday, actually. Man, does my arm hurt... but, obviously worth it!

Don't know WTF R4 is talking about, but you were correct that the tetanus shot doesn't go in the site of the wound. It's just in the arm or butt like any regular shot.
You need a tetanus booster every 10 years, so it does appear that you will definitely need one.
Sorry to disagree with R3, but I wouldn't wait until tomorrow afternoon for the shot. Tetanus is nothing to fool around with.
I know it's a huge pain in the "buttocks"(as you so politely put it), but I would get to the Urgent Care asap. Don't know what kind of medical insurance you have, but would the ER be cheaper? You might luck out there and they might even see you pretty quickly. Either way be sure to wear a mask even if they aren't required where you live.
Good luck and let us know how you made out!
PS-Love being called an "Anonymous Homosexual"!

^ Symptoms of tetanus may not begin to appear until a week after the injury, so as a rule of thumb, try to get the tetanus booster shot within 48 hours of the injury. If tetanus is left untreated, your body could face long-term complications such as airway obstruction, heart failure, muscle damage, and/or brain damage.
It there is little chance of skin puncture, I would hold off. But, better safe then sorry.

Lube and insert the rusty nail in the tip of your penis as far as you can, then tie the tip with string to hold it in. After an hour, call the mortuary and ask them to pick up your body tomorrow morning and leave a key under the mat. If you have any cash lying around, mail that to me today or mail a check to the Trump Defense Fund or, if you like, to Let Illegal Aliens Confiscate Your House Today Fund.

A friend of mine pierced his hand with a rusty nail and blew it off for days. Once it got infected and blue lines were running up his arm I dragged him to the emergency room. He was in there for two days with a drip in his arm. It is a very painful experience. But, if it is not excruciating, it could probably wait until tomorrow.

I got a tetanus shot at CVS when picking up prescriptions. CVS offers a wide range of shots -- tetanus shots, flu shots, COVID shots, hepatitis, shingles, etc.
You can sign up for an appointment on the website.

I had a tetanus shot at Sam's Club for free a couple of years ago - no particular reason, except that the last time I'd had one was in the 1970s, and it was past time for another.

I'm too old to develop tetanus! I drink Rusty Nails all the time. I must be immune.

I came to post what R14 did — CVS has started offering tetanus shots at the pharmacy. Very convenient.
