IIRC this was a troubled production with some shutdowns over creative issues

Yup- I posted this yesterday-
Guy a follow on Youtube just came out of a screening. He says it SUCKS and DGG is officially a hack.
He said he was bored, the trailer is misleading, and Ellen Burstyn is in just under 10 minutes of the film.
Really bad review- He also said it was. boring.

That's impossible. They showed it to the cast of Big Brother on TV and they LOVED it! It was so good, they wanted to watch it again. Why would they lie?

Not surprised with how the Halloween trilogy went. Blumhouse has yet to make a good horror film.

This was evident from the trailer.
This will also be career ending, or severely impactful at least, for the top guys involved, namely DGG reputationally. Blum will take a significant financial hit too. What's more is the morons committed to 2 more sequels. A $420M investment in total. So dumb. I also read that Danny McBride is one of the writers. That is what happens when you go from Blatty's masterpiece to a failed comedian with no writing experience. Is he a buddy of one of these guys??? I don't get it.
I'm sure they'll try another director for part 2. Why not Jordan Peele? Far more capable a director in the genre. Same with James Wan. Though I doubt it's salvageable at this point.

Was Billy Eichner involved in this project? That would explain the bad reviews.

Blumhouse should stick with cheap profitable horror
Donna Langley is probably pretty pissed too as this casts a shadow on her Oppenheimer success

I love this cute Australian guy so much. His review is perfect.
And we always have similar taste (and he is not even a DGG hater- like me, he really like H18 and Halloween Kills)
He also could not stress enough how boring it is.
