Tom Hardy is an aloof tard, says Sir Patrick Stewart

In his new memoir, "Making It So," the legendary actor Patrick Stewart reminisced on his impressive career on the stage and screen, including his iconic "Star Trek" role — and even meeting a young Tom Hardy.

In his memoir, Stewart remembered working alongside Hardy, who played the movie's villain.

"And 'Nemesis,' which came out in 2002, was particularly weak," Stewart wrote. "I didn't have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie's villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy."

[quote] I didn't have a single exciting scene to play,

That's what the Captain gets when he lets Brent Spiner write the script

Hardy is very method-y, unlike Stewart. So they would be like oil and water.

Although I know it's human nature to love gossip, I really think so much less of people who do stuff like Stewart did.

Jason Alexander did the same thing a few years ago talking about the woman who played Susan Ross.

I first saw Tom Hardy in the BBC 4-part "The Take," where he played an English thug beholden to his incarcerated boss, played by the great Brian Cox. I thought Hardy was brilliant!

I also saw Patrick Stewart on Broadway in "Macbeth." I thought HE was brilliant!

So IMO, brilliance in acting can manifest itself in different ways.

“Tom wouldn't engage with any of us on a social level," Stewart wrote. "Never said, 'Good morning,' never said, 'Goodnight,' and spent the hours he wasn't needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend." ”

Hmm. I had never pegged Hardy for Aspie, but this is how they behave. It would also explain why Christopher Nolan loves him.

In Tom’s defense, Patrick is coming across like a cunt telling this story. Maybe he just liked his girlfriend better.

Interestingly the Charlize Theron/ Tom Hardy feud on Max Max had similar elements...

Samantha McGrady (key second assistant director, Fury Road): Charlize is the easiest person to deal with in terms of, Okay, we’re ready. Sometimes I would just call her and say, “We’re going to be ready in an hour,” and I knew she would always get in the car, get her makeup on, and get on set.

Matt Taylor (stunt driver, Fury Road): And when you’ve got someone like Tom who’s a larrikin and is late and very Method in his performances, just in sheer personality, there was always going to be a clash.

Tom Clapham (production runner, Fury Road): Tom was more in his trailer a lot of the time and would come out for the takes—and sometimes not on time, either. You’re like, Come on, it’s midnight and we want to go home.

Tom Hardy had a big substance abuse problem at the time.

Body language would argue against Aspieness (excellent eye contact, etc)

But the description of his behavior is very Aspergic

But he may just be an asshole

I like them both very much. Shut up Patrick.

by Anonymousreply 11October 4, 2023 11:55 AM

Good for Patrick. He told like it was.

Hardy was unfriendly and aloof.

Not particularity a Hardy fan but there is no rule a coworker must be gregarious. As long as he did his job nobody should complain.

Maybe Patrick was spoiled by so many years of the TNG cast being buddies.

By that point, Patrick Stewart had a huge amount of input into the script, and much to its detriment (stupid dune buggy scene and lame action set pieces spring to mind). It’s a fairly crap movie, and Tom Hardy is the best thing about it.

[quote] "On the evening Tom wrapped his role, he characteristically left without ceremony or niceties, simply walking out of the door," Stewart writes. "As it closed, I said quietly to Brent and Jonathan, 'And there goes someone I think we shall never hear of again.' It gives me nothing but pleasure that Tom has proven me so wrong."

Hrmm, no wonder Hardy didn’t want to be social with them. The cast of Next Generation are notoriously cliquey and difficult. Simply ask Diana Muldaur who was treated fairly horribly by them.

Bump

R13 Did they ask the missing original cast member who played Tasha Yar to guest on that episode or was there an issue with her? Wil W. was there & he didn't finish the series either.
