Ryan Gosling is remaking The Wolfman but I have a feeling he’s miscast.
Is Universal still trying to make a classic horror movieverse happen after the Tom Cruise “Mummy” disaster a few years ago?
Doubt it. They can smell the rotting stench on Marvel.

No, they abandoned Dark Universe and gave Blumhouse the classic Universal Monsters. The Elisabeth Moss Invisible Man was the first Blumhouse reboot.

Jack Nicholson did this effectively some years ago. Would have been nice to stop there. Creatively bankrupt moneygrubbers keep retreading the s.o.s. As we are nearing Hallowe'en, I am putting in a futile request to stop calling versions of Karloff Frankenstein masks by that name. In the novel, it was called The Creature. In the film that role was called The Monster. I am ceding control of this to popular usage, along with spelling February with one 'r', enunciating words like 'vegetable' or ' vacuum's with less syllables than they actually have.

Wow, really. There hasn't been a great werewolf movie in a long time ( that's American). I hated the Jack Nickleson one. I liked JN, but the movie was pretty bad. I think Ryan Gosling could be really good as a werewolf, I just hope the script is good. I think RG, is a very good actor, and could surprise us with this.

Midjourney did an admirable job with Jamie Dornan

Gosling will be fresh off his (maybe controversial) Oscar win for this project.

Austin Butler would be good. I know people here don't like him, but, I got that vibe from him in that movie 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.'

Yes. Butler would be a good werewolf. Sweet face but can do evil.

Werewolf?
There there wolf. There castle.

Derek Hough is not a wolf. He is a Grinch-like creature. He has all the menace of a poodle.

Surely, you mean “the Ginch”? What is this Grinch you speak of?

How do you feel about people who don’t know the difference between “less” and “fewer”?

Ron Jeremy. No makeup needed.

The super moon the other day made me think about how there hasn't been a good werewolf movie in a long time.
Gosling doesn't have the right energy or presence for one.

Aidan Turner might be interesting. Werewolves don't have to be tall. He's hairy and bloody enough.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 2, 2023 6:40 PM |
Haha. BROODY enough. Thanks, auto correct.

Daniel Day Lewis. Broody, intense, tortured... can act his way pretty much through anything.

Joaquin Phoenix has a wolfish aspect.

Some of the highest grossing movies featuring werewolves were the Twilight franchise with Taylor Lautner and Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox.
A youngish actor who is popular with youngish people is a good choice.

The correct person to play a werewolf should be a good looking guy who you can buy as a serial killer.
I don’t buy Ryan Gosling as a serial killer.
Jamie Dornan and Austin Butler have both played serial killers (well, Tex Watson may be a stretch to call a serial killer but he did commit a mass murder.)

THey just did a remake of The Wolfman not too long ago. Benicio Del Toro played him. Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt were in it. It was pretty good.

The Company of Wolves and An American Werewolf in London are the only two really good werewolf films I can think of. The original Wolfman is interesting, but more a period curiosity than anything else.
I admit my knowledge of the genre is limited.
It seems that the key has to be that the werewolf is the male counterpart to the female vampire - uninhibited sexuality at a destructive level.

My favorite werewolf was Jack Nicholson in Wolf with Michele Pfeiffer. I love that movie. Well written, well directed. I think it was a Mike Nichols film and it was set in NYC in the world of publishing. Christpher Plummer was delicious as Michelle's Papa.
