I agree, R16, that was my exact thought. They based the Chanel commercial on the Idol, because they are trying so hard to get young rich trash to buy their old lady brand. Epic fail.

It used to be, R18. Then it just became a very high luxury brand coveted because it's very very expensive French fashion. All huge brands at that end of the market mix trash and flash into their offer because that adds a fashionable edge. This is why Dior sticks with infamous trash dumb Johnny Depp, long after his sell by date as a looker.

R18, in the 90s, Chanel was one of the most highly vaunted brands, if not the most prestigious. The first Chanel boutique opening in Australia in 1993 was a huge deal - to me, anyway.
