I actually think that raising kids is indeed a major accomplishment. I'm pretty appreciative how well my parents raised their four kids. They had their flaws, but handling four is quite a lot. Even raising one can be quite daunting. So yes, quite an accomplishment.

R4, OP said shitting out crotchfruit, not raising them. Big difference. I think OP is right that a lot of straights reproduce but don't really raise the kids--they just shove iPads at them from about age 2 on, the way our parents used TV as a babysitter.

Also, why can't I find a random neighborhood kid to babysit for three dollars an hour? It's a BABY! She's sleeping most of the time!

Raising a child is hard work. So is maintaining a boat. So consider not buying a boat.

I think some people do a great job of raising their children but most don’t. People need to realize that they don’t all need to have kids. It’s not a weekend hobby. Most people aren’t capable of being good parents and don’t understand how serious it is to have kids. Having kids isn’t an accomplishment but actually being a good parent is. Too many people are just arrogant about procreating.

r9, you just described my parents. They were crazy religious and thought raising a family was what they were supposed to do to please god. They were married when they were really young and had never slept with anyone else before each other.

They were shitty parents to their four kids. Sometimes they were good...we had nice Christmases but mostly I remember them fighting constantly and my dad breaking and throwing dishes, then leaving for days with none of us sure he was ever coming home. Mom was ok as a mom...until she wasn't. She just wasn't capable of seeing past her religion for many things and they had a very violent and messy divorce.

My teenage years were just survival after she remarried an emotionally abusive alcoholic who kicked us all out of the house.

Now, my father has tried to off himself 4 times throughout my life. They never had money and never offered to help any of us financially...in fact, my mom and step dad borrowed money from my sister when she got student loans and never repaid her. My dad is old and saved nothing for retirement...then he had the gall to ask his kids for money. Parenting is not for everyone and most people should not be parents.
