The inside of the Las Vegas Sphere is scary

U2 on stage last night

It looks great to me! And they can project anything they want onto the walls.

by Anonymousreply 1September 30, 2023 3:11 PM

Agreed, it looks frightening.

by Anonymousreply 2September 30, 2023 3:13 PM

It's giving me vertigo just watching it on video. I can't imagine what it would be like in person.

by Anonymousreply 3September 30, 2023 3:14 PM

I'm claustrophobic and afraid of heights, so, it's a no from me..

by Anonymousreply 4September 30, 2023 3:23 PM

You can sit closer to the stage where it isn’t so high up lol

by Anonymousreply 5September 30, 2023 3:33 PM

I'm sure that's very inexpensive lol

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2023 3:36 PM

I agree, I was repelled the minute I saw it. The last thing I want to experience is some over-stimulating artificial reality type huge distracting immersive projection screen doing psychedelic-style powerful images while I watch a live music performance.

But I suppose this sphere is not targeted to me. The demo audience is probably people on mushrooms, ecstasy , pot and other drugs.

by Anonymousreply 7September 30, 2023 3:40 PM

It highlights how ridiculous concerts in general have become. Used to just go to see a band or singer, not that many big effects - or it was outdoors during the day. it didn't cost you a fortune.

by Anonymousreply 8September 30, 2023 3:47 PM

Looks like shit

by Anonymousreply 9September 30, 2023 3:49 PM

No masks!!

by Anonymousreply 10September 30, 2023 3:51 PM

I want to see the Sphere in person pretty badly. Not interested in U2.

by Anonymousreply 11September 30, 2023 4:02 PM

It’s giving galactic senate

It cost over a billion dollars to construct r6. Not too expensive.

by Anonymousreply 13September 30, 2023 4:05 PM

No! The end of ‘Brazil’!

It was filmed in a decommissioned power plant cooling tower.

I actually think it detracts from the music

It’s like being trapped inside a screensaver

by Anonymousreply 15September 30, 2023 4:14 PM

You people are nuts. It's gorgeous and inspiring.

by Anonymousreply 16September 30, 2023 4:15 PM

It reminds me of the Omni Theater at the Science Museum of Minnesota. I went there on a school field trip in the early 80s. The first thing that I did upon walking into the theater was fall down.

by Anonymousreply 17September 30, 2023 4:23 PM

from the perspective of the video, you might as well watch them on TV.

by Anonymousreply 18September 30, 2023 4:29 PM

I think it's gorgeous. I'd pay $400 to see Right Said Fred there if it came with that projection show.

by Anonymousreply 19September 30, 2023 4:45 PM

Some people are radioactive and think shit like this is “beautiful”.

I’m so tired of technology like this. Mount Everest or the Grand Canyon is beautiful, this is obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 20September 30, 2023 4:47 PM

Why does it have to be one or the other, R20? I think both are beautiful.

You crabby motherfucker.

They can finally do a production of Phantom where the chandelier realistically drops.

by Anonymousreply 24September 30, 2023 6:05 PM

Agree, R20, heart of artifice.

by Anonymousreply 25September 30, 2023 6:13 PM

Is that all there is to the circus?

by Anonymousreply 26September 30, 2023 6:26 PM

Bono must be turning over in his grave.

by Anonymousreply 27September 30, 2023 6:27 PM

If you don’t like it don’t go. It’s Vegas, ground zero for bizarre and tacky.

by Anonymousreply 28September 30, 2023 6:28 PM

But is it okay to have an opinion, sir?

by Anonymousreply 29September 30, 2023 6:51 PM

Can you imagine it on fire?

How much were the tickets for this show? Seeing U2 at one of the stadiums or someplace like Fenway Park would set one back $200 for a cheap seat.

by Anonymousreply 32September 30, 2023 8:05 PM

This place is gorgeous but the VERTIGO. I mean, how many steep escalators do you need to take to get to your seats? Those are a mass casualty event just waiting to happen. Look at the high drop from the upper level escalators.

It seems pretty dark in there as well. How did the 50- and 60-somethings fare at the show? I'd end up lost.

Wheelchair friendly?

by Anonymousreply 34September 30, 2023 8:20 PM

There have the elevators.

by Anonymousreply 35September 30, 2023 8:23 PM

Meant to type, there have to be elevators.

by Anonymousreply 36September 30, 2023 8:29 PM

When the screen is static, it’s pretty boring

People want to see the musicians, just project them

[quote]Mount Everest or the Grand Canyon is beautiful, this is obnoxious.

Pretty isn't beautiful mother, pretty is what changes. What the eye arranges is what is beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 38September 30, 2023 8:48 PM

Whitney's hologram would look amazing there!

by Anonymousreply 39September 30, 2023 8:49 PM

It’s just as ridiculous from the outside. Like some type of alien mothership that mistakenly landed on the Strip.

by Anonymousreply 40September 30, 2023 8:56 PM

Yeah, I looked up some ticket prices because I was looking or a destination for my 50th birthday, and the cheapest seats are around $250.

by Anonymousreply 41September 30, 2023 9:01 PM

Wait till some terrorist uses poison gas or suicide bombs the motherfucker.

by Anonymousreply 42September 30, 2023 9:12 PM

No backpacks or bulky items allowed R42. It’s like going through TSA to get into these events. When was the last time you left home?

by Anonymousreply 43September 30, 2023 9:29 PM

What are the acoustics like in there? Aren't oval-shaped spaces supposed to have terrible sound?

by Anonymousreply 44September 30, 2023 10:20 PM

Sorry, but 18,000 people is way too many for my liking. I'd rather stay home and watch on my teevee.

by Anonymousreply 45September 30, 2023 10:29 PM

[quote]What are the acoustics like in there?

There are over 160,000 speakers.

by Anonymousreply 46September 30, 2023 10:37 PM

Must be fun in a power outage.

by Anonymousreply 47October 1, 2023 2:54 AM

This show seems like too much for me, but Adam Clayton could still get it. I like his white hair.

by Anonymousreply 48October 1, 2023 3:09 AM

Horrific

by Anonymousreply 49October 1, 2023 3:12 AM

Gorgeous and horrific at the same time. And nothing cozy about it. Quite alienating.

by Anonymousreply 50October 1, 2023 3:18 AM

Ha! I thought the same thing, r12!

by Anonymousreply 51October 1, 2023 4:00 AM

Oddly they have a level on the bottom which has an overhang which blocks the view of most of the dome; however, it has the cleanest view of the stage and for vertigo/agoraphobes may actually be ideal

If you sit far off to the side it doesn’t seem too overwhelming

The NY Times called U2 low enthusiasm!

[quote]No backpacks or bulky items allowed.

Um, how about when they are setting up the show/event? Certainly an opportunity to sneak in something then.

by Anonymousreply 55October 1, 2023 1:14 PM

I know. Folding chairs.

by Anonymousreply 56October 1, 2023 1:33 PM

So excited for the Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver residencies.

by Anonymousreply 57October 1, 2023 1:42 PM

This is a venue for a marginally talented “singer” who wants to put on a huge spectacle. The venue is the star of every show.

by Anonymousreply 58October 1, 2023 1:44 PM

And what's wrong with that, R58?

by Anonymousreply 59October 1, 2023 1:57 PM

R59 ‘s taste is all in her mouth

by Anonymousreply 60October 1, 2023 2:03 PM

What a dumb venue.

by Anonymousreply 61October 1, 2023 2:03 PM

[quote] [R59] ‘s taste is all in her mouth

And R60's stick is way up her ass.
